  1.   Have you lived in Tn for many Februaries?   I'm guessing not.
  2. Thanks everyone. I'll check the two on Kingston Pike first. Those are most convenient. See what it'll set me back. They are glued on and they did delaminate, but one layer has essentially rotted. I haven't even worn them in a couple years, they did that just sitting. I tried fixing a pair of Redwings on my own a few years ago when I melted the soles (actually the glue) on a wildfire in New Mexico. It didn't turn out too well.
  3. The soles gave up on my Danner Quarries after about 12 years. I know I can send them back to Danner to be resoled, but it's over 100 bucks plus shipping. I'd rather just add another hundred an buy a new pair. So if I can get these fixed for less than that nearby, I'd rather do that. Yea, I've done a search, but I don't know anything about the places around here. Anyone have experience? Thanks, Will
  4. Keep it safe.     I'm just speculating here.  Did he gain weight and it doesn't fit anymore?  He could lose that weight and fit it again.   Like I said, pure speculation.     That's a cool gift, btw.  It's a shame that he needed it, but you must be a good friend.     As far a what to do with it in the meantime, I have no idea.  Mount it to a concrete slab and use it to launch water balloons on your neighbors?
  5. He's been burglarized before, so he installs a camera. But doesn't seal a massive hole in his door? And THEN buys a shotgun that he most likely has no idea how to use. A bit out of sequence. And I'd fire those dogs. They're not doing their job.
  6. See if there is an Appleseed near you. http://appleseedinfo.org/
  7. This battle will be won the same way it was lost.  By attrition.  We lost a little bit at a time and we will gain it back the same way.   I'll vote for a squishy repub who will sign (or not veto) a good law - over a hard-core leftist who will keep us from gaining any ground.
  8. And for some, $200 is still a lot of dough.  Especially as a tax for something that is required on a car, but restricted on a firearm.  I lost $200 cash (Just misplaced it. No idea where it is) late last year and it bugs me to this day. (Yes, I'm a bit OCD.)  That's at least a couple weeks worth of groceries for our family.   If I'm not mistaken (I often am these days), Dolomite did an inflation calculation in another thread in this thread and came up with a much higher number for a NFA stamp.  And I will admit  3550 does seem a bit low for '34-'14 inflation.  (Haven't done the calc myself.)   Edited to add:  Found several calculators online and they all say that $200 in '34 would equal plus or minus $3500 these days.  I still think that sounds low, but I'm not that smart.  Barely sentient if the truth be told.
  9. I'm not exactly disagreeing with you.  I do believe that it's possible that one may (hypothetically, at this point) be prosecuted for carrying past a non-compliant sign.  I just don't think that it would be right.  Put another way, either the incorrectly posted entity or the handgun carrier who ignores it is out of compliance.  How can both be?   It's just my innate belief that the law should be construed to protect citizens rather than be left "open" enough to prosecute someone who is engaging in an activity that is harmless - if it were to tickle their fancy at the moment.  I think that if there is ANY question as the the legality of a citizen, then the benefit of the doubt should go to him/her.  If it turns out to be a widespread issue (which it doesn't seem to be at the moment) then lawmakers should take it up and spell it out one way or the other.     So I guess it comes down to what is, versus what should be, which, of course, is a futile exercise.   In short, I agree with you, but I think the concept is messed up.   I'm all out of big words today.  I think I pulled a brainmuscle.
  10. Well, nobody is right all the time. :) Actually, it may well be the case that one could be prosecuted with a non-compliant posting. BUT that illustrates my point. I don't care what the intent of the law is. I care what it actually says. If a sign doesn't say what the law says it should, then it may as well not exist, legally speaking. But a cop or prosecutor may not look at it the same way.
  11.   Yeah, good luck with that.   I'll be extremely surprised if he comes to her defense.
  12.   Well, I respect your opinion over most law enforcement officials or judges since you seem to be able to understand what the law actually says.  And you don't try to add  to or ignore what is written into the law.  Unlike even some Supreme Court "justices", who base their legal opinion on their emotional or ideological biases or laws of other countries.   It is unfortunate that you would not be the one arresting or prosecuting or convicting...
  13. I would have called the cops, but I wouldn't have shot the guy. Would be nice to see some tourons spend the night in jail for their dumbarsery. I've witnessed a group drag their KIDS across 441 in Pigeon Forge causing traffic in every lane to slam on their brakes. No, not at a light or even a crosswalk. I regret not stopping in the median and calling the PD for putting their children in danger. I hate that place and I despise tourons.
  14. It has a firing pin spring? Is that a 9mm AR thing?
  15. When did they start making the bolt black? Oh btw. I don't usually say this to a guy, but that's some nice wood.
  16. If you can't wait for a gun show, here is the best deal I can find. http://store.brassmanbrass.com/servlet/-strse-1218/%28BULh6%29-30-Cal--dsh-/Detail 17.5 cents apiece. I'm going to have to start casting regularly again. This is just getting silly.
  17. Just checked Flixster and they are showing it playing 5 times a day at the Pinnacle. It's also at Downtown West. That may be new for today.
  18. I've flown there and driven there. I'd rather drive.
  19. Just to pick a nit, that was a 45-110. And I wanted one sooo bad back in the day. As for the OP, I'd get a basic, quality AR, a full size 9mm handgun with a decent capacity and a bunch of mags for them. Want to go long range like Quigley? An AR-10 style in .260 Rem. would be the modern version. Edit: oops. Just saw that you have an M&P 9. Then, of course, you need a .45!
  20. So many favorite movies... Patriotic: Red Dawn (the original) Last of the Mohicans ( the Daniel Day-Lewis version) Braveheart Comedy: The 40 Year Old Virgin Paul Blart: Mall Cop (based on a true story) Epic: The Lord of the Rings trilogy But my all time favorite movie series... Harry Potter. Yep, seriously. Read the books. I'm convinced that J. K. Rowling has a libertarian spirit.
  21. "Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun. "
  22. And therein lies one problem (of many). Driving is treated as more of a right than owning a firearm. Even when licenses are suspended or revoked, it's usually only temporary. Not directed at you, btw, tnhawk. But if someone is too dangerous to own a gun, they shouldn't be outside of a prison, let alone driving around an even more lethal weapon.
  23. AMC has been running a Walking Dead marathon this weekend. Not sure why, the next season doesn't start until October, does it? Haven't been watching. It's one of those shows that I want to only watch once. For the most part.
  24. Wow! I've annealed case necks, but not in as fancy a way as that. That's schweet.
