  1. I also like the other 3 S rule: Stockup-Skillup-Shutup @OP, planning for trouble? No. Prepared for trouble? As best as I can be given the realities of modern life. I'm not worried about post-election violence. That's been a bogey-man for a long time. Prepare for really bad weather (extended winter power outages, blocked roads from downed trees, water out from broken mains) then add boolits and you'll also be prepared for most social unrest. You'll have to go way down the rabbit hole of prepping and make significant changes to how you live your every day life to be ready for a full societal collapse. Very few people are willing to do that and even fewer can do that on their own.
  2. Just checked my email that they’d have for me and I have a message with the same info as the robocall. looks legit. Stay safe out there!
  3. I got a call today from a Washington D.C. number. Let it go to voicemail and this is the transcription from the robocall voice : ”This is an important message from the bureau of alcohol tobacco firearms and explosives there was a burglary at a federal firearms licensee premise in Rutherford county TN please ensure the security of both your inventory and property and report all suspicious persons or activity to your local police department additionally notify ATF at 888-3675762 if you find any of your firearms missing lost or stolen thank you goodbye…” I have a C&R license so it’s possible they’d notify me, but I’ve had it for years and never been contacted when several LGSes have been burglarized. Maybe it was another C&R holder? A quick google search of the number that called me suggests it’s legit I saw nothing on the local news sites about any gun shops being burglarized. Did anybody else get a call like this?
  4. Currently Comcast (Xfinity) but am seriously considering going the route you took but not with AT&T. A couple of neighbors have them and they have issues several times a year. It seems like the trucks are in the neighborhood several days a month fixing problems for somebody. I'm probably going to get Verizon 5G for Internet and each of the TV providers for their free trial period (or pay a month if I have to) and see which I like best: Fubu, Hulu+, YouTubeTV, maybe Sling. Comcast as a company sucks, their customer service is the worst, their rates are too high, and they somehow always manage to mess up the billing if any change is made at all. But I can't fault their product. I almost never lose Internet or TV service and I don't have to switch between multiple services to get all my channels in one place.

    It would help if I read all 7 pages . . .

    Snow

Speaking of HVAC . . . I got lucky. The heat went out on my downstairs unit last week. It was just a limit switch so an easy and relatively cheap repair. Glad it didn't happen this week..... Oh.....and so thankful for gas heat. Warm air right from the vents.

    Snow

You must be using a different measuring stick there, neighbor. Yesterday when it finished snowing I measured 7.5" on my cars and on the deck, and 9" in the open yard. 10" in the drifts. Or maybe it snowed more on my street. ETA: KahrMan and I live in the same subdivision. Literally like 3 or 4 streets apart.
  8. I didn't need any either . . . that didn't stop me from scooping up some of their Monarch for $11/box after tax. . .
  9. After the safety stuff is covered - For someone looking to carry: Understand the legal burden they're taking on by carrying a firearm. They need to understand the laws, where they can and can't carry, when they can and can't use their weapon, and what they're likely going to face if they ever do need to. Be honest with themselves. Are they willing to take the life of another human being? Are they a hothead who's likely to escalate situations? If they can't come to terms with reality, do not proceed down this path. Try several. Go to the range with a friend who has a variety, or rent them if they must. Single stacks Double stacks Strikers Hammers Revolvers Choose something they'll actually carry. A steel frame full size with cushy Hogue grips is more comfortable to shoot, but that doesn't make it a great carry gun for most people. Invest in a quality holster. Borrow some to try different brands and configurations if possible. Depending on the weight of the gun, probably a quality belt too. Practice. A lot. For someone who just wants to shoot at a range or plink on a farm: .22LR pistol like a Sig Mosquito, Walther P-22, etc. Great beginner gun. Lower cost than comparable guns Similar operation as larger caliber pistols. Cheaper to feed Easy to shoot and learn the proper way to shoot without developing bad habits like anticipating recoil and flinching.
  10. Then we'd need threads and videos about why you shouldn't do the wrist-twist to flip the cylinder in.
  11. Are you sure you're not a professional? That's EXACTLY how some would do it....
  12. Those holes around the bottom edge of the HVAC are supposed to be there. They let water out and air flow in. Yes, critters can get through those holes and that's fine. At the rear of the unit closest to the house where the return and main trunk connect, that lower edge should be solid with no holes. Small critters can get around underneath the unit, but there shouldn't be a passage for them to exit to the rear of the unit towards the house. On the subfloor, I wouldn't glue the panels you make, no matter what they're made of. You want to retain easy access to those plumbing fittings if possible. Sheet metal would be fine if you have that laying around. Plywood is easier to work with to me, but YMMV. All you need is any kind of solid material that's easy to attach with screws.
  13. What you get is completely random. AIUI, US Army armorers would receive 1911s in and separate the slides from the frames. Each was inspected, repaired, refinished, etc. as-needed. then on the end of the process a slide was grabbed out of the "ready" bin and slapped on a frame out of the other "ready" bin. Odds are extremely high it will be a mix-master gun. Getting matching manufacturer on the frame and slide happens like bubba's Remington Rand above, but my last one from Round 3 didn't match. These guns will also usually have some later-era parts like a replacement barrel, grips, magazine, etc. and more often than not will have been refinished at least once. It's whatever that particular gun needed to make it serviceable again for the Army. The CMP isn't stupid. They know more about these guns than just about anyone and they're well aware of the value of rare guns. If a more valuable one like a Union Switch & Signal, Singer, or all-original gun from any manufacturer, etc. comes their way, they put those to the side and will auction them.
  14. What Grayfox said on pricing. As for the process: When they open up the next round, they'll have downloadable forms on their site you have to fill out. One of them has to be notarized. Most banks do free notary service for their customers. If not, The UPS Store is reasonably priced. I think it's like $10 or something. You include copies of your ID/proof of citizenship (they have a list of acceptable docs) and proof of marskmanship (again, they have a list. An HCP is acceptable), and you have to be a member of a CMP-affiliated organization. The easiest is Garand Collectors Association https://thegca.org/. $35 for an annual membership and it's all done online. Mail all that in and wait. First you get an email with your random number (RNG). This really doesn't mean anything because you don't know how many they're processing. It's just an acknowledgement that they have your packet and you're in the queue. This took about 6 weeks from when I mailed in my packet, IIRC. The only value the RNG has is IF you know the number of someone else who got theirs and when they got their pistol. If you have that from two people, it can give you an idea of how quickly the CMP folks are going through the list. But it won't make the process go any faster or slower. Then one day out of the blue you'll get a phone call. Caller ID showed Anniston, AL and I was immediately excited. The CMP person will confirm your information, give you a quick rundown on your status and let you know which grades are available to purchase. You'll pick the one you want and give them a credit card number. They'll send you an email with details also. Unlike rifles that they can ship directly to you, the pistols must go through an FFL. You need to get your FFL to send an updated copy of their credentials with your name in the email/fax so The CMP knows who it's for, even if they've done transfers from The CMP before. After that it's like any other FFL transfer. You wait . . . Eventually you'll get an email from The CMP letting you know it's shipped and the tracking number. IIRC, this only took a few days after the phone call to get shipping info. This time will take a little longer because apparently I forgot to sign one of the forms so I had to mail in another copy of that form this week. Gotta give it time to get to Anniston and processed before my order goes to the warehouse. Timeline: I submitted my packet in early September, got my ID October 11th, and got my phone call this Tuesday, Jan 9th. About 4 months from submission to possession.
  15. P.S. I would NOT foam at the tub openings. That will make it near impossible to get that plumbing undone if that's ever needed in the future. Basically you're making removable plywood access panels.
  16. The duct opening is normal, maybe a bit larger than needed, but all foundation openings are bigger than the trunk lines going through them. You should NOT be seeing daylight through there. It should fit snug against both the wall and the HVAC and should be sealed with silicone. Check that the sides go down into the dirt so there's no way for critters to get in unless they tunnel under the metal shroud. If not, pack some soil up against the bottom and put some gravel over it to help minimize erosion. For the plumbing holes, take a piece of cardboard down there and cut a template for each side. Then transfer the pattern to a piece of plywood. A couple of screws up into the OSB above and a short 1x1 screwed into the joist to support the "inside" edge will do it. Run a bead of silicone or caulk around the edges and call it a day. Easy to remove if you or a plumber ever need access to those fittings in the future. Put some silicone around those copper pipes going through the OSB too.
  17. Above 43,000, below 44,000
  18. I got a Service Grade Colt slide on a 1945 RR frame in round 3. I was happy when they opened Round 4 up for repeat offend....".buyers". I went with Service Grade this time too. Maybe I'll get an all original US&S or Singer that someone forgot to stash for the auctions
  19. Anyone else jump in for Round 4? I got my random number back in October and finally got my phone call today! It was like Christmas all over again. Can't wait to see what the elves of Anniston send me this time.
  20. BUMP for a pretty guitar. That's some beautiful maple in that top. I'm pretty sure that's Lemon Burst color. I think Honey Burst had darkened edges. I have an Epiphone Les Paul Standard in Desert Burst and these things play great with a classic tone. With all the accessories thrown in, this is a nice setup for someone looking to pick up a good quality guitar without getting into stupid money. GLWS!
  21. About the only benefit it serves now is to be the whipping boy to take the anti-gunners' heat while better organizations like GOA make actual progress.
  22. Yeah.... 9/11/2001 is more or less as close to today as it is the Iran hostage crisis of 1979
  23. In middle TN, try 89.3 WMOT (MTSU student radio). They play good roots, blues, bluegrass, and Americana music. I hear some good indie artists there. It's the only one I know of. Even Lightning 100 is mostly Millennial and Gen Z sadness music mixed in with former indies who made it big and got deals and now sound like everyone else.
