  1. Well it really doesn't matter if a wallet chain is a weapon or not....a private property owner or his representative can tell you to leave the property for ANY reason.
  2. Nah, you did fine and thanks for the update. The funny thing is, if you had started a new thread someone would have posted telling you there was on old thread and to use the search function. Besides....no on cares what OS says anyway....
  3. How long have these shows been on? Just found them flipping around a little bit ago. Practical Tactical is on now and going over less than lethal forms of Self-Defense now. Description for Conceal & Carry School says it will be about learning to shoot at a Tac Pro Shooting Center. It shows them on next week at the same time 9:00am and 9:30am central on Spike TV.
  4. Well you can't in TN.....but you can get a Handgun Carry Permit.... http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/firearms-law-faq/21582-how-do-i-get-tennessee-handgun-carry-permit.html
  5. Well you seem to have first hand knowledge, so I won't argue. Do they train at the "law enforcement training academy"? If not, I still don't see anything in 39-17-1351(e) that would exempt them. But as I said, I don't know for sure.
  6. ...and cost MUCH less. However one bad thing potentially is the issuing sheriff can place restrictions on the permits he issues...and those restrictions are binding anywhere in the state.
  7. Correctional officers can carry without a HCP if issued a state ID card per 39-17-1350(f). But if they are going to get a HCP I don't see anything in 39-17-1351 that exempts them from taking the safety class.
  8. As has been said...a LEO can ask about anything no matter the reason for your interaction with them. You have another choice besides answering or lying....don't answer at all. However I admit this may not go over well. Also refusing consent to a search as Pain103 said isn't the end of the world. Rode with my brother a few years ago, he kept asking this one lady for consent and she kept saying no and eventually she left without any search being conducted. As far as why he asked....is she married and if so is the car registered in her and her husband's name? Then does the husband have a HCP? As has been discussed HCP info is NOT attached to your vehicle registration, but it is to your DL. When a LEO runs the car's tag, you can take the info and run the name of the owner through the DL database though and that would tell you if the registered owner has a HCP or not. ....or maybe he just wanted to search the car.
  9. I guess it is better than nothing. The one thing I don't like about tasers like that is that you have to be very close to the person and make contact. Punisher has very good advice on not looking like a victim as well. Walk with your head up etc..... and always be aware of your surroundings!!
  10. razorback2003 is right about your car in MS. I had found that infomation and was going to post it, but didn't after I saw the law change that allowed carry in state parks.
  11. Looking at Google Maps JP Coleman State Park is all in MS. However I was wrong about Park carry in MS From the handgunlaw page I posted.... Carry In State Parks/State & National Forests/WMA/Road Side Rest Areas Carry Allowed in these Areas: State Parks: YES Sec. 45-9-101. (After July 1, 2010, Senate Bill 2862) State/National Forests: Unknown WMA’s: NO Road Side Rest Areas: YES If Not Posted So it seems as of last month carry in State Parks is legal in MS http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/2010/pdf/history/SB/SB2862.xml
  12. I think it might be better to say that in some cases/situations. it may not be wise to clear your house. To say blanketly say clearing your house is dumb....is...well.....dumb.
  13. Well if I read the first post correctly, although he served as a Reserve Deputy, the OP didn't actually have law enforcement firearms training, just basic CPL course offered by a LE agency. The same as taking a HCP course offered at/by a PD or Sheriff's office here. As far as your first post, I did misread it....thought you had said you had to be post certified and have academy training...didn't see the or, that is why I emphasized it in my post. My bad.
  14. Well unlike a Driver's License which allows the holder to do pretty much the same thing from state to state the carry of weapons is much different. In states where OC is legal without a permit or not allowed at all A "concealed" permit is all that is needed. In states like TN where any carry is illegal without a permit but either OC or CC is allowed with a permit calling it a "concealed" permit would be misleading and/or wrong Of course in other states a permit allows the holder to carry other weapons besides just a handgun, so using handgun in the title would be wrong.
  15. Carry at Pickwick is fine, even if signs are posted, it's a state park. Not 100% sure about the dam itself though, it is probably off-limits per federal law. MS does honor TN permits. Places off-limits even with a permit in MS (http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/mississippi.pdf) Any police, sheriff or highway patrol station: any detention facility, prison or jail. Any courthouse; any courtroom, except that nothing in this section shall preclude a judge from carrying a concealed weapon or determining who will carry a concealed weapon in his courtroom; Any polling place; any meeting place of the governing body of any governmental entity; any meeting of the Legislature or a committee thereof. Any public park unless for the purpose of participating in any authorized firearms-related activity; Any school, college or professional athletic event not related to firearms; Any portion of an establishment, licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, that is primarily devoted to dispensing alcoholic beverages; any portion of an establishment in which beer or light wine is consumed on the premises, that is primarily devoted to such purpose; Any elementary or secondary school facility; any junior college, community college, college or university facility unless for the purpose of participating in any authorized firearms-related activity; Inside the passenger terminal of any airport, except that no person shall be prohibited from carrying any legal firearm into the terminal if the firearm is encased for shipment ,for purposes of checking such firearm as baggage to be lawfully transported on any aircraft; Any church or other place of worship; Or any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited by federal law. In addition to the places enumerated in this subsection, the carrying of a concealed pistol or revolver may be disallowed in anyplace in the discretion of the person or entity exercising control over the physical location of such place by the placing of a written notice clearly readable at a distance of not less than ten (10) feet that the "carrying of a pistol or revolver is prohibited." No license issued pursuant to this section shall authorize the participants in a parade or demonstration for which a permit is required to carry a concealed pistol or revolver MS does not allow carry in public parks, but I don't think any part of Pickwick is actually in MS.
  16. Actually I believe it is 1 or 2 or 3 or 4. So don't think you would have to be POST certified (1) as long as you completed the academy training (2). Also it doesn't specifically say TN, but I take it that way too. So yep FIRERESCUE02 looks like there is a TN Handgun Safety Class in your future...
  17. Would be better if it said: "If you're intoxicated and carry you are fraking idiot." Just my opinion.
  18. Always good to have more people legally carrying and to increase the percentage of citizens with permits.
  19. I don't think it is they can't put it online, it is that it has to be signed. Yes, I know there is a law that says a electronic signature is as legal as a physical one, but guess they want the physical one. I have always gone to the DL station so as to have leave with the receipt in hand.
  20. YouTube - American Dad: Guns kill
  21. Hey....I told you it would never happen again.....
  22. I dont' think that is correct.... There is nothing listed on the Handgunlaw.us page about no carry in a place that serves alcohol, just as Pig957 said. Also no mention of it on the Indiana State Police's FAQ page http://www.in.gov/isp/files/firearms_FAQ_02_08.pdf
