  1. It has been a while since I played with it. Are there any Garand experts in case I need to ask some questions.
  2. I bought it in 1997 and gave it to him as a gift. He passed away on March 12th of this year. We had his funeral on his birthday March 21st. I was doing some research on his Garand it was assembled the year he was born. I don't know how much dollar value it has but to me it is priceless. It isn't pretty but it could shoot. When I take it to the range I will be thinking of all the time we spent together. 3. The Rhineland arms kit are a good way to do it. All you need is a large or small ring mauser action and the right kit and you can put it together in an afternoon.

  7. USA today is a liberal progressive rag like most newspapers. Can't trust them
  8. I would like to suppress it someday. Can't afford to now.
  9. It is a very semi scientific examination of .45 from a 16 inch barreled carbine. I was shooting at Charlie Haffner's range Sunday and decided to see if a 16 inch barrel makes a difference with .45 acp. First I shot my handloads from my Smith and Wesson 625 over the chrono and the velocities ranged from 841 fps to 856 fps. With a locked breech semi auto the velocities would be higher that from a revolver. Unfortunately the chrono did not have a recall feature and I did not write down the numbers.  I then shot the same handloads through my Mauser converted with a Rhineland Arms kit and they velocities ranged from 950 fps to 961 fps. I have read many comments articles and blog posts that stated .45 acp would not gain velocity out of a carbine barrel. Their opinions were that the powder would all burn in the first 10-12 inches of barrel. Many have doubted that the cartridge would be effective at 100 yards. I can't say either way, however once I figured out the drop I was able to put them into a Dirty BIrd silhouette with boring regularity. Unfortunately there was a very gusty wind from straight down range Sunday so my rounds were all over the target. I would not want someone shooting at me with a .45 acp carbine at that range.   Now the .45 Mauser carbine is a good 50 yard gun. It has no felt recoil due to the weight of the gun. In two weeks I will repeat using my Glock and Just Right Carbine with some other types of factory .45 ammo
  10. Thank you guys, it has been a tough couple of weeks.
  11. Final update dad passed Thursday night. My wife and I are leaving Wednesday to drive out for the funeral Saturday the 21st. It would have been his 72nd birthday.
  12. Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers. Last night he was very lucid and we had a good talk. I don't think it will be long. I will be coming back to Tennessee tomorrow. It has been a good visit sad but lots of love.
  13. The two things that helped me the most were: 1- Nyquil with decongestant the one they keep behind the pharmacy counter 2- strong hot spiced tea with a qood shot of whiskey in it before bed . My voice is still gravelly but finally starting to feel better
  14. Sorry for the delay. Just an update i am here in Colorado. It was a rough week Last week Dad was in the hospital due to critically low sodium levels. The oncologist gave us bad news time is very short he has a few days to maybe a couple of weeks left. He got to come home Friday and palliative care is helping out. It is a sad time. Yesterday some people from his and mom's church came and played music and sang hymns with dad. He is extremely weak and fatigues easily. I am glad I came. It is bitter sweet. It hurts to see him as a shell of the man I knew but it is good to be here.
  15. I have never understood the hype. My AR likes the 55 grain it doesn't shoot the green tip 62 grain quite as well. I have enough for a while hopefully sanity will prevail... but I doubt it.

  18. My dad is dying from pancreatic cancer. He lives in Colorado with my mom, sister, her husband and their two kids. My dad has never been one to have deep conversations with the kids.  He and I were estranged for several years. We have reconciled. I have scheduled time to go the week of March 12th to the 16th. My dad is not able to keep any food down now he is loosing weight very quickly. It has been a rough time for the family. I am very sad. Please pray for the doctors to have wisdom to adjust his pain medicine and help dad have quality of life until the end. Please pray that I have time with him in March.
