  1. Haha yep I had to re-educate myself on hay vs straw. I did actually purchase and use straw. I am contemplating the landscape fabric as well. Just wanted to see how the straw does initially.
  2. I think I will wait out another week on replanting the dead ones. The majority of the garden is OK because I did seeds. The cabbage and lettuce plants seem OK too. My guess is onions and potatoes weren't hurt by it. This whole planting season will really just be a learning experience for us and I'm sure I will find better ways to do things next year. The PVC arches are a good idea!
  3. Luckily I only have about 10 plants to buy and not 50. Live and learn I guess. I just tried to get in a hurry. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Wonderful. JUST planted everything yesterday and got a frost last night. Tomatoes, squash and peppers are dead. Everything else is good though. Cost me $50. Ugh. I didn't know anything about another frost. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. So I just saw something interesting. I saw where a guy used 30lb test fishing line as an alternative to an electric fence for deer. The premise is that the deer can't see it and they will bump into it and spook. Anyone tried this? I just don't want to shell out hundreds on an electric fence setup if I can find a better and/or cheaper way.
  6. So I guess the question is will you get caught???  :pleased: Mine don't make much noise.
  7. Ain't that the truth. I've been married 5 1/2 years now and looking back just 3-4 years ago I'm amazed at how much we have grown as a couple and individuals. I guess it's all a journey and not a destination. Best of luck to ya'll.
  8. The scary thing is I remember seeing those online but forgot about them.
  9. I'm gonna walk the whole darn thing.
  10. bummer
  11. I also meant to ask if anyone has used anything with a comparable;e grip angle in a grippier texture.
  12. I'll second this. Crush run or whatever they call it is good stuff. It's not the cheapest but once it set's up after being driven on it's solid. I will say that if it is poured too thick you will tend to leave ruts in it when driving on it which are hard to get out without equipment.
  13. I have fell in love with these grips. I just can't seem to like the standard grip angle of most grips after using this one. Makes me wonder why it wasn't designed like this before. I just bought a LPK from PSA with this included but they only had ODG so I guess I will be doing a colored build.  :pleased:
  14. Only seeds I am planting are corn and some beans. Potatoes are large enough that they won't wash. Everything else is a plant.  That makes me feel better.
  15. I'll be there Saturday afternoon.
  16. So I went last night and bought all of my plants and seeds and now it's going to rain all day. Will it hurt to plant in wet soil? There is one section of my garden where the soil was a little more damp than the other spots and I have some clumping of the soil but nothing very hard. I don't want to add to the problem but I can't let all of these plants sit in the garage for days until it dries up.   I am going to add newspaper to the rows and cover with straw once I plant.
  17. Follow this link and click on the image for the basic plan. I think I modified mine a little but it's pretty self explanatory. I spent somewhere around $350 on everything on mine but I used good treated wood and that treated plywood ain't cheap. It should last a loooong time. I'm sure you could build it alot cheaper with recycled material. It doesn't have to be this robust either. I call this the storm shelter because it's so heavy. It took four grown men to lift it into the trailer when we moved with the roof OFF.   http://www.mansfieldfeed.com/news-updates/build-your-own-chicken-coop-2014-02-3056
  18. I have closed off the bottom door and made one out of the side since I took this picture. They didn't want to go up through the bottom. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I built a coop based off of purina plans and have had really good luck with it. I initially had a run built onto it but just let them free range now. I hang a heat lamp in there during the winter and they do fine. On the really cold snaps we had I just stapled some cardboard over the door to keep out the draft and open it in the morning. My outside dog does "play" with them every now and then when they try to eat her food but otherwise she leaves them alone. I have two at the moment and usually get an egg a day. I'll post some pics of the coop and a link in a minute.
  20. We just put 5 more outside since their feathers have come in for a total of 7. I look forward to more eggs. I plan to do alot of pickled eggs. I LOVE those.   I will probably be giving some away to the neighbors too. That's a good way to get the neighbors on your side.
  21. Yep I saw something earlier about HBO doing a pilot for Game of Thrones and that it didn't get favorable reviews so they are re shooting it.  If I recall HBO actually passed on The Walking Dead in the beginning.
  22. That would be a dumb move unless they got paid like a bazillion dollars.
  23. I'm thinking that's a teacher hitting a student. Wonder if he got into some trouble.
  24. from what I gathered if you use something like newspaper and whatever topping you want you can just till it in. I don't know if I will re till the garden or not. Some sites say to do it sparingly. I'll figure it out as I go along I guess haha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
