I made some mistakes when i was younger. Thank you for any answers
Whatever that means ---- if you answered the questions on the application truthfully, it should be obvious if you will pass the check or not. The check really is just asking if you answered the 6 or 7 questions truthfully. Pretty cut and dried... buying it for yourself not to resell or for another, not an ex-con/felon, no restraining order against you, not a foreigner (though they can get a gun, there are other hoops to jump), no dishonorable discharge, whatever else it askes. All those should be a NO except the one that is worded backwards --again, it should be obvious what the answer they "want" is and if you provide the answer they "don't want" for any of those, its a no-go.

They are nice guns. I have the plr (its the SU action in a pistol barrel and stock) and have shot the rifle SU as well. Reliable and accurate. While a good gun for the money you want to avoid shooting steel ammo in them (manual says this as well) and you want to be careful of blasting 100+ rounds through it in 5 min sort of thing (you can overheat them). If you treat it reasonably well (do not overheat and use brass ammo) it will serve you well as an inexpensive AR alternative. They are rather lightweight. Their 10 round mags do not fit into ARs. But AR mags fit the rifle, there is some small difference in their factory mags.

we vote early because my wife has a job that virtually prevents normal voting. But I do not like crowds so it helps with that too. She does 2 days a week, mon/tues, 20 hours. We could probably make the polls before or after her work but early is much, much easier to handle.

Rob, that gun has awesome wood on it! I keep seeing so-called muzzle loaders that look like bolt actions. What are these guns? The theme seems to be plastic/modern ML rifle, usually with a scope, and for all I can tell of the images, a bolt of some sort. Clearly they are designed for ML hunting... ?
Make sure you tumble lube them with Lee Alox before loading them. I have shot a lot of Missouri bullets and had leading issues until I started using Lee Alox on them. Dolomite
I dunno when the last time you bought them was but they come covered in a blue wax lube now. If they did not before? It seems to do fine for me, no lead here in multiple calibers (I like them because they have a 9x18 option).

Its the velocity. If your 230 is moving 800 fps and your 180 is moving 1000 fps, then absolutely, at 25 yards, you will have a different point of impact. This may or may not be clear until you think about it but 1 second after your bullet is out the barrel, the 180 is 200 yards farther away from you --- and in that time both dropped the same amount due to gravity (32 feet in the first second, I think). So they both reach 25 yards a different times, and time is what changes the distance it will fall due to gravity. Its going to be a small fraction of an inch ---- at 800 fps the bullet has fallen a little over an inch and at 1000 a little bit less and the difference between them is going to be maybe 1/3 an inch TOPS, probably less than that (sorry doing it all in my head). You can get a new recoil spring for a few dollars (less than 10) and reduce your load to match the drop of the heavier slug if it means THAT much to you. If it does mean THAT much to you, the MBC bullets vary in weight, distribution of their lube, and shape/size by enough that you want to get expensive bullets instead. MBC are great for what they are (inexpensive!) but they are mass produced, banged around, and not exactly top shelf 1/10 an inch variation at 100 yards competition grade slugs either.

second that, just like inside the gun, its the pressure buildup you want to avoid, so let it be out where it can expand.
-
It is a bit heavy for playing around. Nothing wrong with that, but drop 10 pounds off it and you can shoot a lot longer in a day, hold it back easier to focus on aim, etc. And I assure you a 40 will poke a hole in cardboard at 50 yards.
I see your point, BUT....fair chase is LEGAL and BAITING is NOT! Decisions, decisions.... Dave S
And, as I said, you won't see me breaking the laws. Even the stupid ones. No decision at all there!
-
I won't break the law but I was looking into hunting for the food aspect -- one animal, for food only. Dead is dead and I see no difference between an efficent kill via bait vs trekking thru the woods for a month. It would not be a "sport" or "fun" for me, it would be a chore (and a brutal one at that) of gathering food. I can respect that others see it differently, and I have a very low opinion of lawbreaking, but the actual act does not seem "unethical" to me, it seems like a better method that has been banned to make a chore even more difficult. But you know me, always trying to apply logic.

the only issues I am aware of on what you can use is whether it has any effect on metal or plastic or wood finish depending on the firearm. Motor oils and gas and such CAN damage plastics of some varieties and some wood finishes.

300 Blackout as a "End of Times" caliber
Jonnin replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Survival and Preparedness
It costs me .06 each per loaded round, .03 for the primer and .03 in powder. That is cheaper than most 22's. You can't even buy the heads for a 223 for that. Dolomite
are you casting for it? I have not tried too hard for cheap 30 cal slugs in bulk, could just be a misconception from buying the 100 round packs for way too high a price. -
I think the 3g is dead unless you have one of those already. The newer ones just tap a nearby wireless hub, which is worthless to me, I do not care for wireless and do not have a hub. The web is very limited, text and pictures and links. It fails most sites and is very unreliable. I have used it to tap google maps when I got lost on a trip though and watched the news on it once during some big news story, forget now what but slow as it was I had info way before the folks watching the tv did. It does OK for simple games too. I have sudoku, chess, blackjack, scrabble, and a few other such turn based games. The chess app is not very good, though, I can beat it.

300 Blackout as a "End of Times" caliber
Jonnin replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I am all about it once the supplies get going. It is still a bit harder to find than 223 and a little more expensive to make. It seems to be a better round than 223, period, for the intended purpose and for medium game hunting. I would rather save lead than powder for now ... the more lead and copper in each one the more it costs, and bullets are the most expensive part of the round. Its on my go get one list, but not in a hurry. If O gets in, maybe I will snag one sooner than I can really afford, if not, in a year or 2. -
mine looked almost exactly like that and they did not have to do anything special. He knocked me 100% out to set it but no plates or screws or other stuff, just set and splint. It was the LEAST painful serious injury I have ever had, it just broke, no real pain when it happened or afterwards. Itched in the cast, but that was the worst of it. I think I hit the ground at 15-20 mph (bycicle, big hill) but apart from that I was fine, walked a 1/2 mile to someone with a phone to get mom to come for me, walked all that holding it with the other hand. Hopefully this one will also be pain free and heal fast. I broke my foot later, and that one HURT.

I would say it is abuse if it leaves a mark that lasts longer than about an hour, TOPS. Brusies are abuse. Redness that persists is abuse. Bone fractures (which is incrediblty diffuclt to do for the very young, their bones are more flexible) is abuse. Remember this, too: a kid that age LIKELY is still in diapers which is a seroiusly tough padding. If she is whacking the kid with THOSE on, even a pretty good hit and a rather loud one is not doing much harm. ------- Spanking is one tool and my 2 cents is that it is mighty effective if done properly and at a certain age. 2 is a good age for it: the kid is going to test limits and disobey on purpose until convinced to stop doing that. In addition to it, the 2 year old is NOT going to listen to logic or do as told just because mom said so. By age 5-6, though, a child should be able to understand logic and other forms of punishment become more useful, such as taking away toys or TV or send to bed early or whatever. My sister had a great saying: whiners are tired and have to go to bed. Kid whines, she made it take a nap and that was that. Its amazing how much better a kid behaves when not tired.

You can break them out of headlight mez with a horn or noise. Sometimes. I would not rely on it, but I have honked and had it work enough times to recommend at least giving it a try. It can't hurt, assuming you are slowing down and doing the other things as well, but again, do not rely on it, some deer will jump upon a horn and some will continue to stand there.
Persuasive.
I was convinced too. Gonna man up, stop whining, and get one of these manly man's guns because everything else is just garbage. OP better get one too, because there is about to be a run on them.

New Jersey Turns Away Non-union Relief Crews
Jonnin replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
I am not sure the marathon is that big a deal. Sometimes the best thing to do is to go on as planned as a way to get things back to normal. The money for it was already spent, the folks already on their way to it and prepped and trained. The mess, on the other hand, is just that: a big mess. Marathon or no marathon, clearing away the mess is going to take months, maybe over a year or even more. Just getting the power on is going to take a week or 2. Just getting the gas trucks in and the gas stations operational is going to take days, weeks. Cancel the marathon or run it, either way, it is a symbolic gesture is what I am saying. Cancel it and give the snacks/water to the victims, and a hundred or so people out of 5 million get some one day worth of snacks. A nice gesture, but not really impressive --- I am sure the beer wagons are on the way with millions of beercans full of water (they do this, they can turn off the beer and just put water in cans rapidly for disasters) which is going to do a lot more than the few hundred bottles of water they had for the event. Run the marathon, try to show that life goes on, also a nice gesture. There will be critics either way --- if he had canceled it some sap would be on TV telling you how he trained all year and spent $1200 on a plane ticket, boo hoo etc; that is just how the media and america work these days. Turning away the nonunion help is a big deal and very stupid. I can assure you that the help that was turned away would have been many, many multiples of the amount that could be taken from the marathon supply... -
Just changed schools as a last minute situation this week and start new classes on Monday... This time around I want to move away form physical books to an e-reader because it will be easier to carry everywhere. We decided on one of the new Kindle Paperwhite readers this afternoon, but they are on a delayed shipment for around a week. The question I have is, if for example the e-textbook is purchased from Amazon, will I be able to access it on a computer, then when the Kindle gets in, download it again or transfer it to the e-reader? Am not sure how the DRM works on ebooks, e-readers and Amazon (or any provider for that matter). Hopefully it will let you transfer it between systems, even if only one can access it at a time, that's no big deal. I just don't want to get into a situations where it requires multiple purchases of the same $150 book. Any info is greatly appreciated
Yes, the software (free) kindle reader can tap your account and you can download and read any book you have bought (and buy more!) on any pc. You do not need the kindle in hand, you can do it directly from amazon on any PC that is on the internet. DRM, the files are encryped and somehow it knows who you are and you may read them. There is a loan a book program, I have not used it. Many books are free, including many literature books that one might buy for school (esp high school level). You cannot copy the files from one kindle to another and read them, best I can tell. They are not plaintext for sure, seems to be encrypted compressed format of some sort. IMHO it is easier to NOT transfer the files to and from the kindle, just do it off amazon directly and forget the USB transfer aggravation. You will never have to buy the same book twice. In fact, the amazon system prevents purchase of the same book twice, it just pops up to tell you that you already own the book. Not that I am a dumazz that tried to buy the same book twice or anything, I just randomly happen to know this and stuff. Issue: in class, page numbers & kindles do not mix too well. Just so you know.

what he said, its a "better blue" finish. Even stainless will rust if you sweat on it enough, so no matter what you have, you should wipe it down now and then. Since you said you will wipe it down, you will be fine. I like rem-oil spray cans for this. It is a terribad lube, but an excellent spray & wipe compound for "day to day" cleaning and wipedowns.

there is nothing "wrong" with a glock except personal preference. The same can be said of *most* guns in the same price range, though. The stuff I like about a glock: accurate, reliable, rugged, simple, good sights, decent controls. the stuff I dislike about a glock: fat, funky grip angle, annoying trigger "safety" device, long spongy trigger pull, springs are a little strong (easy to fix), cannot change the grips. As you can see, every single one of my dislikes are just personal taste. The only thing I will say in conclusion is this: do not get a glock just because a billionty other people have them and tell you to get a glock. If you like them, then by all means get one, but if you have not fired one, its the single most popular brand and should be NO problem to borrow one to try. Shoot one before you buy it, and then if you like it, go for it. If you do not like it, tell us why and we can point to something else that counters your dislike. For example if you mostly like it but that grip angle is all wrong, XD is pretty close to a glock but fixes that issue. edit: failed @ reading, I thought it said you had not shot one, but you have. in that case, if you liked it.... that is all you need to know, is whether YOU liked it or not. Its not going to break and will be tough to wear out, its probably not going to malfunciton often (any gun can, if dirty enough or wrong ammo or bad grip, stuff happens). Its all about what YOU like.

only time you need to give out a SN is to prove the gun's age for collectors items. For example to get the correct date on a browning a5 shotgun which were made for nearly 100 years so the SN narrows down the when which changes the value. Even then you can give partials... SN 132XXX for example can be sufficient to show it was made in whatever year. This is not something you have to worry about often unless you scored a collection of fine older firearms --- it is a problem you would WANT to have
