Do you know anything about his tastes/wants/ opinions? What he might do with it (admire it and stow in safe? Shoot it to death? Carry it? Compete with it at something?). Your budget is a big deal too. Have you considered any engraving for the event?
  2. AR and AK are hard to tell apart on the teleprompter screen. I keep hoping he will say AR-47 or AK-15 or something cool that will inspire a new gun design.
  3. I have a hard time taking psych degrees, professors, "doctors", etc seriously at all. I have yet to see anyone who was cured of mental illness. I have seen countless kids and adults harmed by these folks though. Keep them away from me.
  4. I agree, the ak and even a .22 derringer do not belong in the hands of criminals. The statement is not the issue. The issue is he will use that statement to do something stupid to non criminals.
  5. freezing may kill them in some cases. We kept a lot of our seeds in a cool dry storage year after year and they always worked. If they get wet they may sprout of course.
  6. The last time I saw a case of this in the news, the person in question had purchased hundreds of guns in under 3 months. The reason they come to look is to find out WHY. Are you setting up shop to resell them or do something stupid or just buying guns? I once asked about this and the answer was you have to buy an awful lot (at least 100) in a short time (2-3 months) each of which passing thru the background check system to be flagged. Not too long ago a guy near here was doing this very thing, buying them to resell "as his personal guns" --- an illicit gun dealer and business, in other words. They got caught and are awaiting trial as we speak, if memory serves. The tracking thing is pointless until they force you to be unable to sell/trade/inherit face to face without trace. That is direct gun control and while its been on and off the table, it has never passed.
  7. The second part has nothing to do with a ND. I will even give that one to you ... your draw might beat mine. But mine is not going to cause a ND. Murphy can be invoked to say that even using your rules, something will find a way to go wrong. Its a catch all, no matter what you do, you lose under those "laws". No need to give him a hand, of course, but again, its like trying to put a bowling ball into a beer can: it wont fit.
  8. Yes, Mitt did not put the laws in place. But he has made any number of questionable quotes. Let me share a few gems... “We do have tough gun laws in Massachusetts; I support them,†he said during a gubernatorial debate “These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.â€2 (On support for the brady bill) "That's not going to make me the hero of the NRA (National Rifle Association)," he said. "I don't line up with a lot of special interest groups." I believe the people should have the right to bear arms, but I don’t believe that we have to have assault weapons as part of our personal arsenal, There are dozens more of these but they all say the same thing: Mitt's support of the 2nd is casual at best --- he does not support "high cap" mags, he does not support ownership of semi automatic rifles, he does not agree with the NRA in general but wants their endorsement, and he thinks gun control helps to reduce crime. Just the words that come out of his mouth are enough even if we give him a pass for anything he did in MA.
  9. Gonna have to agree to disagree here. This is like the 15 rules of gun safety where you lock the gun and ammo up in different areas of the country. Its safe, and it works, but its also overkill. There is no way the stuff I allow in the gun pocket can fire the weapon --- its possible if you had no holster and stuck a finger size and shaped object in there, yes (pocket knife, screwdriver, etc gets in the trigger guard, I can see it). A soft wallet pulls the trigger through a holster after taking off the safety? Not possible. The spare mag? It does not fit in the trigger guard, and to do that would require turning it 90 degrees to reality inside the pocket, also not possible for my setup (could be for some guns?). There is only one cause of ND. It is the N.
  10. You are unlikey to see a door to door takeup, that is not impossible but its not likely in the near (10 year or so) future either. There is nothing wrong with being ready for that event (whatever that means to you...) but it is not the concern. The concern is constant erosion of where you can carry with your permit, and what exactly you may be allowed to buy. Or aggravations like ammo tax or hazardous materials/environwhacko attacks on ammo. Whatever you own today, you will still have it after any law changes; these laws tend to prevent purchase of certain things but not continued ownership of them if you already had it.
  11. trading on a gun is not as bad as selling one to a shop. They undercut your value, so you in turn point out that the gun you are buying is marked up. Back and forth ensues and with a decent guy behind the counter, you can work out a decent arrangement. I agree it is bad form to ever step up in the middle of a deal. However there is nothing wrong with listening in to see what the store paid for the gun so when you buy it (if you do) you know the profit margin. If you are a known customer of the shop, and the clerk knows you, I think it would be ok to ask the Clerk (not the seller) if you could buy it off him instead to save paperwork and fees and all, this one time..... that sort of thing is subjective, but I would NOT directly try to get in the middle by addressing the seller with "I will pay you a little more than the shop..."
  12. very nice. I have shot one of those that had been worked over extensively, and it was amazing. Have not shot an untouched example but have heard nothing but praise for the model.
  13. most of the (internet) pics I have seen from a squib + followup shot resulted in a ruined (but not exploded) gun: the barrel is expanded often, a few times the slide or something was cracked or stressed beyond hope. A few guns explode, and rifles are more prone to devestation as they have much, much more power to contain. A bulged barrel in a semi auto pistol can lead to a megajam because the slide pulls back over the too big barrel and gets stuck... Anyway, different stuff but the BEST you can hope for is a ruined gun. People have been injured badly as well.
  14. Hah, I was right! Every time there is someone making the south look bad, a yankee or a leftcoaster is involved. Mark my words.
  15. thanks. That is one cluttered website.
  16. We have a high chance of a ban on semi automatic rifles or low+ capacity magazines for handguns and semi-automatic rifles. Romney is 100% behind a ban on anything more potent than a revolver or a bolt action rifle. Obama is of course against guns as well. IF CONGRESS PRESENTS IT, YOUR NEXT PRESIDENT WILL SIGN IT. Congress is our only hope right now.
  17. Its gone now? I got a story about football.
  18. If you are looking again at different stuff.. Take a look at the cz rami. Best midsized/smallish 9mm I have owned, DA/SA with cocked & locked option, manual safety, short mag is 10, longer mag is 13 or 14 and improves the grip. SR9 seems to be a solid choice as well, I have not had a chance to try one yet.
  19. For governemnt to support a business that makes these statements is just as bad (are they agreeing with the statement? Are they supporting christians now?). Government can't win this one, because all the answers are wrong.
  20. No. But if you do that, there will be consequences. From a business standpoint, in terms of what is best for his company, it was a risky move -- no gain, but something to lose. If he has the convictions to do it anyway, good for him, but he now has to deal with the consequences.
  21. its a replay of 1968. Convince people something is bad and ban it. Repeat.
  22. Well, criminals are all stoopid. They clearly will continue to blow up theaters and ignore other public gatherings because right now, blowing up theater is in style. Its like the airport security increases: its cool for terrorists to jack a plane, while rental vans with a nuke in the back is just not gonna get you any respect. Um. nevermind.
  23. Well, that was my point. Its not about the religion ----- clearly, many, many christian based businesses operate in boston. Its about the one guy's personal opinions. Whether that is grounds to disallow them entry? No, I do not agree. But, at the same time, I support the city being able to choose who can operate there. Basically, I think it was dumb to make that statement, and I think it is dumb to get worked up over the statement.
  24. that is the best darn thing I have seen in a long time. Very nice.
  25. Intent is a slippery slope. Romney has good intentions to ban ARs too, or so he says. The words have to stand alone after being put out there. Looking to be offended? He all but blames all bad things that happen in the country on gays via "god's wrath". If I see a lightning storm over san-francisco that somehow manages to hit every gay man and turn them into a pillar of salt, we might have something here. The comment was over the top. Keeping them out of the city over it is also over the top, by the way. 5% with an awful lot of sympathy. Count the votes, not the gays --- something this small could well give him an edge, or ruin him, next election. And that is what it is really all about. Probably, he does not personally give a rats rear about the issue, but is just using this for free publicity and votes --- politics as usual.
