Tennessee Ranks As 2nd Most Violent State
Jonnin replied to dieewigeteufel's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
So, we can get off the list by having less police? Do NOT let our mayor see THAT. -
You are not betting money, though. Its you life, and a would-be hero's grave if you bet wrong. This one wanted to live, so you could be right here. Many such shooters do not care if they live or die, and that would be a bad bet. Got about even odds that the shooter just picks you as the priority target, so at the least, you may save a few people for your efforts. "Here lies Jonnin, victim of the ban on armor penetrating rounds..."

I have thought about it.... what would you have done? I would have shot at the guy if at all possible in the smoke and all, and when my rounds did little (body armor!) I probably would have been shot in turn. If I had realized he was in armor, what then? Duck & cover, for sure. After that? Try for headshots from cover? All I can come up with is I am now seriously thinking about making some steel ammo.

Tennessee Ranks As 2nd Most Violent State
Jonnin replied to dieewigeteufel's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Yes. Other parts of the state realize there is a problem and have taken at least some baby steps. Chattanooga does not have a gang problem, our mayor said so.... Chattanooga has a heavy tourism industry and goes out of its way to ignore the problem because admitting to it might scare away somone. So we marked off a few safe areas of town that are policed and maintained, and let the rest of the city go up in flames. -
Well, I agree with her. You do not need a 30+ round mag to hunt anything. It can be nice for some pests in some parts of the country, but it is not necessary to put food on the table. Which begs the question, "so what?". I don't hunt with my AR, its for 3 gun which is a sport and a valid use of the gun. Even if I did not, "so what?". Its a lot of fun to blast away sometimes. Also, the hunting logic --- all you need is a muzzle loader or bow. We going to reduce people to single shots in the name of safety? That would be stupid, right? Well, this approach is just stupid scaled up one level. The idea that the only purpose of a gun is violence, whether to an animal or to people, is where she has a mental block. Guns are used 99 % of the time on nonliving targets at a range for the fun of it. That other 1% is divided among hunting, defense, war, crime, and more. Crime is a relatively small part of it, by the way. We tried a high cap mag ban, and it failed to stop any crimes. We let it expire because it was worthless. She is not even creative enough to come up with anything better than "people don't need it to hunt" --- she is not all that smart.

Sweet! Every big bird I have been around has been smart and fun, playful and all. Great pets.

welcome! The system can glitch. Once when I got my driver's it was stuck to 3 more in a wad. Rather that even fool with trying to fix that via proper channels, I used the handy name and address and all on each one to mail them along to the owners myself, but some folks would have mailed them back which would have added 2 weeks turnaround to them. Stuff happens, give it a little time and if you do not get it, tell them & get them to send another one.

Tennessee Ranks As 2nd Most Violent State

TN scores big in the studies that rank with (violent crimes)/population. That is hardly news, as our cities are infested with gangs and drugs and poverty, and we have a lot of smallish to midsized cities with big city sized gang problems. When it comes to the ghettos, tn may as well have 15 major cities! With leaders that deny the gang problem entirely, it will not improve in the near future either. Worse, all most leaders can think of to do is to fund programs to tell kids that shooting each other is bad and stuff. That RICO act is the best news in a long time. Lock the whole gang up, indeed --- DO IT ALREADY. -
Fast & furious repeat, IMHO. Paid stooge of the administration to stir up anti gunners before the big vote.... I can see it. Obama was caught doing the same once, red handed, why not again? He is not terribly creative --- a little more work to avoid being caught, and the plan is a success... If the guy were a nutcase, he would not have told the police about the bombed apartment. He probably would not have been taken alive. And number of shots fired vs fatalities? Low. Something smells here and I am very anti-tinfoil-hat. This was not your standard nut (if there is such a thing). All that planning and no escape? BS. He wanted to live, all the armor, surrendered. But no manifesto on facebook or anything yet? It does not add up, and if it was going to add up, it would have already.

http://www.csmonitor...-on-foreign-oil I took it in case it is a disguised survey. Your results You probably won't be voting for Obama in November. You're a conservative, or even a Republican. You're probably frustrated by most of Obama's policies and thinking are about voting for Romney in November. ^^^^ probably see a lot of that.

don't discount lee entirely, their dies and steel presses are as good as any other for single stage or turret. You just don;t want aluminum framed press (slowly deforms over time). Hornady, RCBS also make good stuff. Dillon is best, for advanced setups. You can get them online with a search for reloading stuff, there are really only a few brands but many sellers of those. I get most of my stuff from sportsman's warehouse, which is the lazy way out, it has a good stock of basics. The rest, I web search for and try to figure out what I need.

I think you have a niche market, so if the goal is profits, in this economy --- well, people are not lineing up to buy wallhangers right now. Not trying to be down on the idea, just a thought. If the goal is to enjoy your hobby with money on the side, that is another story. A lot of the people that do this sort of thing carry not only the guns but other items such as field gear, pictures, postcards, and whatnots. Lots of collectors of the non-firearm items too, and that rounds out the business, attracts more customers. Plenty of CW tourism in this area and chattanooga is central to everything. If the yearly CW gunshow is any indication, there are a lot of people doing the same thing. Modern BP guns (hunters, mostly) are of little interest (the ppl that use them have a gun already). But components for the various guns (bullets, powder, caps) might sell some. Also replica guns are moderately popular, and a few of those might sell. I wouldnt fill the store with them but either have the ability to order them or have just a couple on hand might benefit you. Random thoughts. Best of luck with it!

It looks like someone with more time than sense added it to the safety? It may be a rig for and older or handicapped shooter or something? Thought it would look cool? For the same reason that someone mounted a chopped up mosin in a plastic tactical stock?

I prefer Rigg's chief or sarge or whatever he was called. Because I love his motto. "I dont give a F". Thats why I don't have an ulcer.... Edit: WWMRD? Get on with Renee Russo, that is what he would do. Thats a winner, she is one of my favorite hollywood babes.

Absolutely a purification system should be in there. I personally carry about 400 pounds of evaporated water too.

Someone epic failed at market research. If that stuff is not profitable, sportsmans' would have closed their doors years ago. Their guns & hunting fill about 1/4 of the store (more if you count the clothing) and support at least 8 clerks/whatever they people in the department. It seems to be quite profitable. Kids sports may be big money, but ammo is also big money, its a consumed product that people constantly want more of and of those who buy it, a lot of them will buy some each month. And if you buy ammo, you will look at the guns if they have one. You might buy targets cause they are handy. I think the kids sports thing was a cop out, throwing in the towel because they cannot compete with {sportsmans, academy, wallmart, local shops, etc} on guns for whatever reason (greed, mismangement, unable to attract customers, etc).

A liter to drink, a bit more to wash (you dont want to get sick when the hospitals are out of reach!) and cook and such. Also a liter of water a day won't cut it this month if you are active (backpacking outta town thru the woods in 100 degree weather???). A liter might cut it for a guy in shape and used to the heat, but a normal guy who is neither a jock nor construction worker or the like, put out in that heat with minimal water is gonna be hurtin. You cannot have too much clean usable water. Period. Take that one to the bank, and adjust your bag accordingly --- its heavy, so you have limits on what you can carry, but its literally something you cannot live without for long.

-- "A Shield with a spare mag should be more than adequate." 100% agree. Exactly what I was trying to say. Without the spare, its a small but calculated risk, one I personally would not take. I also agree that training and hitting your target are important. But from observation, I still say that 75% of permit holders would need 15 shots to down 3 attackers. They need more practice, absolutely --- but they are not getting the practice and training, so the round count becomes the crutch to solve that problem, right or wrong (mostly wrong). Its a problem, and one that is here to stay unfortunately.

I have more comment. I got to shoot a shield for the first time this week, and the trigger was acceptable, even borderline *good* !!!! Very impressed. Absolutely better than the nano --- which has a trigger like beretta worked hard to outdo kel tec and exceeded expectations at it. Neither one has bad recoil, I half expected more kick from the shield but it was not bad at all. Having seen a lot of novice shooters the last couple of years at the indoor range i frequent, I would give the average person a 50% hit rate on a moving human at 20 feet. Given the poor accuracy I have witnessed, I would also put out there that it would take 2-3 shots per to stop the threat due to missing the fast stopping areas of the body (that and 99.9999 % of these people train on a target that puts the X ring in the stomach). Then we take into account the typical 2-man assault team, which is unfortunately not uncommon these days (and in enough cases, you get 3 attackers, more than 3 is exponentially unlikely). Doing that math, a typical person needs 5 or 6 shots per attacker. 3 attackers is looking at 15 rounds to cover the bulk of situations running those numbers. Odds of having to draw your weapon are still slim. Odds of it being one attacker if you do, pretty good. But are you a gambler? There remains a small chance that you will be up against 2-3 thugs shooting up the local stop&go. If you want to risk that with a 5 shot revolver or a 2 shot derringer, have at it. For the record I have a 7 shot 380 and carry a spare mag, 13 total. And I hope to live as long as you without ever drawing my weapon: so far, so good, had the permit for over 10 years now and while I have pulled the gun quietly a couple of times, no one but me knew this and I did not need it after all. Here's to not having to shoot anyone ever!
-
I avoid any "gun" place that does not sell handguns. This policy has served me well; I may miss out on the occasional cheap rifle but I can live with that.
-
If that is an option, yes shoot it! I agree, cutting it down is not a great idea. Recrowning is not easy either, well I guess it is but you need good tools for it -- I could not do it with mine.
-
Added 1 gal of water to my supplies. adding dried veggies to the food supply, just got a dehydrater and testing the results (yummy, but chewy even after rehydrated) weekly handgun practice managed to get a tolerable day and did some rifle practice

its not hard to replace grips. the model 10 is pretty common smith, and I think some consider it to be a lesser desired piece? I like them myself, but prefer my 19. you know the smith is accurate. You dislike something difficult to alter on the colt. You like the smith except for the easy to modify grips. My logic indicates you should go with the smith here.

take a look at their site... http://www.lesbaer.com/CusCarry.html even that (relatively) low end gun gets 3 inches at 50 yards. The high end ones get 1.5 inches... http://www.lesbaer.com/PPC.html (ask about the 1 1/2 inch at the bottom of the page!) $1400 is a pretty cheap les. The ones I was drooling over were closer to twice that. And 500 rounds is pretty low round count.
-
les baer guns (any type) are supposedly super accurate, but I am not sure if that is the higher end ones or all of them or how much it varies. I would make the trade alost every time, it would depend on the LB gun in question and the Sig in question. You want to research it, find out what you can about the LB (age, round count, value, accuracy, etc). A lot of the LB guns come with a bench rest / locked down proof target at however many yards, see if it has one of those.
