if I understand it correctly, modern .32 S&W factory ammo is safe to use in these guns IF THE GUN IS IN GOOD CONDITION. Magtech makes ammo for these old guns, and is the brand I have seen most. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/magtech-revolver-32-sw-85-gr-lrn-50-rds.aspx?a=289669

The pump action racket thing ---- you can make just as much racket with an auto. At least the traditional A5 style autos, if the bolt is open and you prod the feed ramp to shuck in a shell and slam the bolt closed, its just as loud. Why anyone would make noise and give away their position is beyond me, but you can do just as well with either type.

I think O hurt himself by taking a stand here. He had the majority of the people who vote pro-gay rights already, and I think its a net loss for him to lose the people who were ok with him being neutral but against him being pro-gay. gains him little but may cost him, in other words. Depends on how Mit reacts to it, of course. Or it could be forgotten entirely in a week or 2.

Has anyone given thought to the effect of physical fitness?
Jonnin replied to Spots's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I dunno guys. I am going the other way, building up a layer of fat so I can go longer on light rations! -
yea I started to go there but I suspected it was overbudget for the thread. If that is the model I am thinking of it is at least $750 new (?).

I love the 1911 because it is accurate and because I like short, light, SAO triggers. The trigger is 90% of it --- I am certain accuracy could be had in other designs that had a SAO trigger --- easily seen in the few .22 caliber SAO guns. The grip safety on both guns is, IMHO, stupid. The bushing on the 1911 is also, IMHO, a poor design. I would *love* to see some other SAO designs, but there are not any. I do not bash the XD, but I do not really care for it either, the trigger is no good for me. In general, I dislike any extra safety features on any gun --- which boils down to ANY safety on guns that are not SAO and a simple thumb saftey on the SAO designs. Anything else is overblown and in my way.

I am not aware of anything in the rules about group buys at all. Most of the restrictions are on the part of selling items. I am not currently looking to group buy. If I get low enough later, I may, but my stockpile ATM is sufficient and my funds are low.

It looks an awful lot like what you have if you take the barrel out of your gun (?).

Trying to show my mother how to shoot, any pointers?
Jonnin replied to gjohnsoniv's topic in Women's Perspectives
pick something simple to operate and gentle to use. Like a .22 revolver or simple .22 auto. Go over your favorite 3-4 safety rules... always loaded, pointed in a safe direction, finger off the trigger, know what is behind the target sorts of things. Show her how to operate the gun before you go, let her dry fire it and get a feel for it. Bring extra ear and eyes get some simple, large, no frills target. Get something with a point of aim, not just a gigantic man target or a black blob, but something with a bullseye to at least try to aim at it. Show her, maybe on paper, what a sight picture is supposed to look like. Demonstrate. Let her have a go, and so long as she is safe about it, just let her shoot out 2-3 mags before you even think about offering any corrections. She needs to feel the gun and become comfortable with the noise, flash, recoil, and overall experience for a few rounds. Keep it simple and slow for a few range sessions, then slowly guide her toward point shooting or front sight only shooting, draw and presentation and stance stuff, the basic core of self defense. Work with her on situational awareness. Go with her to a store or shopping or something, and get her to SEE who is around her and TAKE NOTE of what they are doing in a full 360. Try to encourage her to always be aware of everything as best she can. -
my first auto, my east german makarov. Back when you couldnt sneeze at a gun show without hitting 10 makarovs, and then got a 1k case of ammo for it for right at $100. The gun has gone up in value (even though heavily used now) while being one of my favorite shooters.
-
be careful what you get if its an auto. The cheapest walmart stuff jams my gun up about every third shot --- rem game loads has quail and doves on the box, black round, potmetal silver very small metal cap. The game loads do go bang every time, so if its a pump or coach or something, they are just fine. I have had excellent luck with RIO brand, which is not expensive.
-
You can get some fairly cheap 38 special ammo to mess around with. Lever guns tend to be slightly higher than they really outta be --- be prepared to spend on it like a handgun, prob at least $400 and up.
-
any interest in an auto? Browning, but tend to be a bit pricy. A couple of brands for tactical guns, also tend to be pricy. Saiga, for the mag fed guns. Cz and savage make good stuff in general but never tried their shotguns.
-
A shotgun is a great choice. They are cheap, ammo is cheap, and the many types of ammo fill many purposes from slugs vs deer to shot vs birds and anything in between. Everyone should have 1 good shotgun. Again, this model is a bit big for indoor use, but that depends on your home. Try lugging an equally long 2x4 thru your house to see what I mean. A shorter barrel or a combat stock (pistol grip, or between that and the traditional rifle stock, options exist) or both would help if you find its a bit much. Mine is that big, but its in a strategic location and I do not plan to move once I get my hands on it.
-
what you want it for, besides to collect? Its a large model, if for home defense it may be a big much to lug around, and hard to go room to room, depending on your home. Looks like a pretty generic pump gun, with a good capacity.

Well, if you like the khar, take a look at the beretta nano. It is a simple DAO striker fired pocket pistol in 9mm. I have yet to have mine jam, had it since right after they came out. It eats everything so far, which mostly means my handloads or cheap bulk junk, though I shot a few critical defense thru it to test it and some year before obama hornady ammo that I got back when. I hate the long DAO trigger on it. I like its simple design, easy to use mag release (which reversed and made a 100% left hand gun for me). I kept it because its my best left hand gun, one of the few I can work 100% with my strong hand. I am sorely tempted to reduce the trigger pull with some bubbasmithing, but have not worked up the nerve. I disabled the drop safety finger pincher at least, I hate those dumb things. It would burn up in re-entry before it could fall far enough to pull that trigger via momentum.

States rights are not related to the federal government and were more powerful than the federal government up until the civil war, where the issue was settled. The founders were, of course, OK with the states making their own laws. They had little choice, in the early days it was a near thing at times to prevent the 13 countries of america --- making the USA into something like central america with a bunch of little republics. Except it would have been the 60 or 70 countries of america, given the land mass. There is nothing in the constitution that matches any of the teachings of christ nor the 10 commandments. I do not see this supposed link to principles, maybe you can explain that better. What I see is a limited government that lets people live and let live, each doing their own thing with minimal interference from federal government. But, this was a state law. I suppose I should support state rights and cheer them on, but I cannot. I cannot cheer at limitations on personal choices and freedoms without a good reason, and none has yet to be given for this issue. It just boils down to majority bullying the minority with laws and regulations. I cannot help but wonder if now california can choose to do the same by outlawing hetero marriage? Would that then also be OK to conservatives, a great win for state's rights and conservative principles?

Maybe not. Denial of medical treatment while they changed clothes?? Sounds like they are responsible for his demise due to denial of medical treatment, which is some form of murder or manslaughter.... a smart prosecuter might find an angle here to put them away for a while longer.

Korean War vet, 84, shoots home invader with Korean War gun
Jonnin replied to QuietDan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Now, that is a hate crime. Attacking the elderly, one of them ill, both probably a bit feeble, and knowing it going in (he was their neighbor!!). That is as hate filled and low down as it gets. Using this guy as a test dummy for ballistics would be too good for him. -
Paramilitary Training Is Illegal?
Jonnin replied to E4 No More's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
how does one attempt to shoot? Kinda like yoda says, do or do not.... either they were so horrible (after paramilitray training?!) they missed the building, or, they did not fire the weapon. Wha??? Across the board, while they very likely needed to be arrested for *something*, none of the stuff listed should even qualify as a crime. -
I have seen some amazing compensators and port jobs. I have seen some that did next to nothing as well. My wife's glock 17 was the C model (ported) and I fired it alongside a regular 17, could not tell any difference at all. I have shot ARs with and without a good compensator and it can cut the recoil by a ton, making rapid shooting very easy. I guess, what I am saying is, if it is done right it can be a huge benefit, or it can do nothing at all. I do not know how to tell you to find someone who can do it right, though.

welcome! There is a small city between the 2, cleveland, you might find something in that area or within driving of its facilities at least. Good luck with your search!

I will never get why so many conservatives are against gay marriage. It really just hurts the conservatives.... driving away some % of voters who would otherwise be conservative. The founding fathers conservatives supposedly cherish were all about personal freedoms. They were also all about seperation of church and state. The only real complaint about the gays is rooted in religion. I cannot make a connection as to why freedom loving conservatives want to restrict the freedoms of others and turn government into morality police. Regardless, it passed. While I disagree with it, generally, it does feel like an "up yours" to the liberals at the same time.

makes sense. That feed angle is very different indeed. Probably a neverending source of aggravation.

I have heard it from too many to discount it as well. I will get back to you guys on this one when I get that p938. If it jams, I will admit to being wrong. If it works --- then it becomes a brand issue (which I accept: a couple of the smaller 45s have a questionable rep).
