the 22 mags in mini revolver actually have a modest recoil. Another try before you buy --- I would get a bigger framed gun, and as I said in the other thread, the taurus 941 is excellent, 8 shots of 22 mag in a small (fits in a pocket) but managable package, it is especially tame in the steel frame (not the ultralight). The mini is also a pain to reload, and I can see that being an issue for clumsy, arthritic hands (?). You have to take a pin out, pull out the cylinder, load it, and put it all back in (align the pin is not easy for the elderly, IMHO).

Q&A for announcement about forum database intrusion
Jonnin replied to TGO David's topic in Feedback and Support
Just the one I listed. If a hacker is going after YOU specifically, and sees the pattern, he can now guess your passwords on various sites easily. It is uncommon for a regular person to be the target of a serious hacker --- you either need an enemy, or be rich/famous/infamous/political/etc or have some other reason to be a target. -
A 30-06 is a rifle. A shotgun is very different; and you not knowing the difference means you need to start slowly and learn about your guns before you jump into the woods. So, first things first, you need to get a hunters education safety course, which is required to get a liscense. Next you want to explore where you will be able to hunt in your area, and when. Once you have a place to go, you can buy your hunting liscense (got to buy it every year). With the paperwork started, swing over to the NRA website and refresh your gun safety rules. While doing all the above paperwork, you will want to find a range to practice your gun with. You should take it somewhere with a 100-200 yard range, and learn to hit where you aim with it using hunting loads. Part of hunting is being able to hit what you aim at so you kill it --- wounded animals are often inedible (adrelenine ruins the taste in a hurry) and its a pain to track them thru the woods, and a bit cruel to boot, so best to get this skill down. Spend some time arounds guns to understand the difference between a shotgun and a rifle and the purpose of each. Hunting is pretty involved. Do not be in a rush to get there, it may even take the better part of this year to reach a point where you have what you need to actually take a deer. It works a LOT better if you can find an experienced buddy to take you along and help you out. You cannot buy deer meat to my knowledge: no one raises them for food and hunters do not have the liscense to sell their meat. You can buy some jerky or processed meat at a few places, but that is also not super common. My apologies if I sound overly concerned --- if you know your way around guns and shotgun was just a slip of the pen, you can bypass some of this advice of course. I just have to assume from that sort of comment that you are new to guns, and work from there (?).

Q&A for announcement about forum database intrusion
Jonnin replied to TGO David's topic in Feedback and Support
A lot of folks recommend a base password + site specific. For example, if your password for this site were xy#$,> you might use things like xy#$,>tngn //tn guns xy#$,>fcbk //facebook xy#$,>yho //yahoo or the like. That way you really only remember 1 password, if you can be diciplined enough to have a pattern to how you make the site name portion. this fails if someone targets YOU but it works if someone stole a database and is just feeding name/password combos to various sites to get a hit, which is the most common issue. -
Try a sig p238. I do not know what it is about that gun but it really tames the recoil and the trigger pull is quite short and easy (single action). It has much less felt recoil than the kel tec. If that does not work, what about a 22 mag revolver? Could she pull the hammer back to shoot one in single action mode? My wife loves her taurus 941 --- but we did have an action job done on it as they are fairly gritty out of the box. An oddball but the kel tec 22 mag 30 round pistol might be a good pick too. The berettas have a pretty harsh trigger. Not recommended. If she can jockey that 38 special, that may still be the way to go. Load some 380 bullets in it to whatever power she is comfortable with --- it can be as weak as a 380 or even less, all the way up to full bore 38sp. Its easy to load this caliber to fit your needs. What about a quality .25 single action pistol? They are not all junk, but you have to pick and choose carefully. You also have to be careful about recoil and bite, some of these are harsh. Shoot the ones you have, you will know right away. the ruger or walther p22 type guns have a short grip to trigger reach. They do pretty well, but its a .22 LR which means misfires/duds and that aggravation. But I would say the p238 is the first thing to look at. Really need more feedback as to what she can and cannot do. Can she rack a slide? Can she operate a hammer on a SA or DA /SA revolver? Is it just the long grip to trigger that is a problem?

I would go over there. There is a chance it really is not all that loud, its amazing how sound can carry sometimes. If you see how loud it is from her place, you can see if it is too loud or not. Likewise if she came into your room and heard her noise, it would help her to see the problem. Unless she is deaf, there is always that angle too. We used to have an upstairs neighbor that was a complet idiot, back when we lived in an apartment. She would clomp around the house in hard bottomed shoes all freaking day long, nonstop, and she had a kid with those horrible kid shoes clomping around too. It was maddening. The little idiot overflowed his tub and flooded our bathroom too. Apartments are great, right? Options, as I see them, are 1) work with the woman to figure out if its just one of those things where sound carries and try to fix it (can be as simple as moving the offending TVs just a little bit, for example if one is touching a hard surface or next to an air vent or other sound anomaly). 2) If its an actual volume problem, try being nice, and if nice fails, get the apartment people into your home WHEN IT IS HAPPENING so they can hear it and explain that she will not stop being loud. 3) Soundproof the room. carper over styrofoam on that wall, for example. It can be made to look nice, but is a lot of work to do and undo when you leave. 4) move your TV to another room

need help with Ruger Mklll 22/45 reassembly

This. Nice video. I tried it again and still cannot align them on the first try, guess its just me. I end up having to rack the slide, pull the trigger, and tilt the gun every which way to finally get it. Doing it upside down helps, though. Its a bit aggravating for me there too, as I have a glass window type red dot and have to constantly avoid grabbing it or banging in the process. -
there are a few differences but tn and ga are pretty close. Remember that posted (no guns allowed signs) stores and all are not to be entered, is the big one coming from ga to tn. glad to have you on board! There is also a n-ga / tn board in gunboards.com, though its not huge its a place to cross the state lines and they do a shoot every few months.

the walmart steel is what $5 for 20 223 and $8 for 50 22 mags? would have to be a massive bulk buy, not a box here & there, and not a walmart trip.
-
You can deprime with any old punch -- even just a long thin nail -- , dunno if you need a full lee loader for that. And the priming tool is available seperate, and lots of people use that to prime on the side of tv or whatever. The lee loader thingy is meant to load the ammo fully and will have more than you need, though its not too expensive.

the box was semi serious, I have tried a ton of ways to store the mags and the best thing I have managed was an empty bulk 22 box (typical 500 shots of federal etc). I tried magnets and they work but magnets seem to create rust upon whatever they touch if left for too long. But, when that happened, the magnets I used were that dark brown type, that they sell in sticky strips, and it rusts eventually. That went poorly. I think coated or rare earth or better quality magnets do not have that issue. Just watch out for it if you use the strips, esp if you have used mags like for an AR that have poor finish or whatever. Also, the magnet strips cannot support a loaded mag, if that matters to you. The rack I made looks like a 4th grade project. I can make stuff that works. It is never, ever a thing of beauty -- I have no skill at that nor the tools. I see that the rack you bought has a nice area under it, that looks too small to be of much use, but it looks like it is about magazine sized. I think your idea of using that is about as good as it will get. I think benton's will sell and install you a safe lester, not 100% sure. Ours came from a gun show vendor, and they also installed it, but I forget who--- it was over 20 years gone by.

I cannot tell one primer from another, I have tried several brands and sort of stick to winchester for no real reason except that is what I can find and have been using. Changing primers supposedly changes your load data, so stick to one brand if you can. Again, I cannot tell any difference and the same load data seems to work for any, but that is what people say. I mostly use accurate powders, and #5 works well for all non magnum pistol calibers (its a lot like unique), I use it in 9 and 45 both (as well as 380, makarov, and others). I use 2230 in the 223 and also for light loads in larger rifles, its not a good powder for big rifle using real loads though. The only reason I really prefer their powders is they do well in my powder device. I use the 2230 in my 308 for 100-200 yard gentle rounds. I have not had a need for tons of full power loads; I bought a few of those for hunting rather than work up a hunting load as that would mean buying different bullets and different powder to make like 50 rounds total. I use bulk cast bullets for the pistols --- http://www.missourib...dary=&keywords= for 9mm and 380s and 357 as well. I use the hornady 55 grain boat tail 223s and they are super accurate -- found a deal on 7k of them so I will be using that for a long time. I have not bought bulk 308 of any sort, bought whatever was on the shelf that day at sportsmans warehouse, sierra soft nose something or others. I do not have a preferred 308 yet as I shoot it infrequently. I am using some bulk 230 grain jacketed 45s that I got when I first started, and learned better since (copper and heavy = more pricy). I can find the brand if you want to know, but I will not buy that again. If you want my data with this stuff I will share, if you choose another brand of powder or real actual 9mm slugs, it will not help much. I like that cast bullet maker because they have makarov and becaue shipping is in the "whatever fits in the box" post office boxs so shipping is low.
-
Yea, since the announcement of the 9mm the price on the 380 is down.... but I still would expect the 9 to be high for a "while". The old pay & get one early or wait for the deal decision.
-
my p238 was 600 or so. I expect them to be at least that for the first year.
-
well its also tied to the length of the bullet, but most folks just do it by weight. A steel core might be extra long and I forget which way the twist goes from bullet length. that is sort of dead middle between the 2, either could do decently with that weight. ??? Just look at the barrel when you get home and be sure. Lighter bullets cost less in general, but a 223, its not as intense as the the 100+ grain variation between 45s or 44s and so on. I mean, the range on a 223 is like 25 grains, from around 40 to 65 are the common weights. Pistols are less picky and for plinky ammo any weight will do (lighter = cheaper!).

Zimmerman gets $150k Bail, may get to leave FL

clearly they confronted, else TM would be alive. He got out of the car and approached to within fist distance of a potentially dangerous person. He could have been shot, stabbed, or whatever at this point. Gun was probably not out and ready. The suspect was not harming anyone physically, so there was no reason to do this. It was stupid cubed, no matter how you slice it. There was simply no reason for him to get out of his car or get anywhere near this potential danger --- no one to rescue, no useful outcome to be had. I call that a huge lapse of judgement. I would not get within 25 yards of such a person, and unless a third party became victim to the person, you could not pay me enough to get out of my car. I just cannot understand what he was thinking to do that. -
1-7 is usually a 60-80 grain bullet. 1-9 likes the 50s and low 60s.
-
what is the barrel twist on your 223? The twist rate lets you pick a bullet, which helps pick a load. I will post my notes when I get home.

there are degrees and terms for various killlings. I say this is voluntary manslaughter, for whatever my totally unrelated to criminal justice degree is worth. Stealing a lil from da wiki, these seem to cover the main ones? First degree murder is any murder that is willful and premeditated. Felony murder is typically first degree.[5] Second degree murder is a murder that is not premeditated or planned in advance.[6] Voluntary manslaughter sometimes called a "Heat of Passion" murder, is any intentional killing that involved no prior intent to kill, and which was committed under such circumstances that would "cause a reasonable person to become emotionally or mentally disturbed." Both this and second degree murder are committed on the spot, but the two differ in the magnitude of the circumstances surrounding the crime. For example, a bar fight that results in death would ordinarily constitute second degree murder. If that same bar fight stemmed from a discovery of infidelity, however, it may be mitigated to voluntary manslaughter.[7] Involuntary manslaughter stems from unintentional, but criminally negligent behavior. A drunk driving-related death is typically involuntary manslaughter. Note that the "unintentional" element here refers to the lack of intent to bring about the death. All three crimes above feature an intent to kill, whereas involuntary manslaughter is "unintentional," because the killer did not intend for a death to result from his intentional actions.[8] -
plastic garbage bags, large. Not much of a sleeping bag, but its warm, waterproof, and small. Cig lighter for fire. small pocket knife, maybe a swiss army of smallish size? Trail mix, chocolate, or the like? collapseable "boy scout" drinking cup? Water purify tablets (or iodine can be used for this and minor first aid...) bandaids or tape & gauze or the like, alcohol swabbie packs, other light first aid. small mirror, or possibly other items usable as a signal to searcers, a whistle? some sort of strong but compact, lightweight string/rope, to make a tent of your garbage bags if you like, or whatever else. A few sturdy nails, to climb a tree or make a tent or something. sunscreen. 10 feet of TP folded up. Bandanna (hat, bandage, and whatever else!)

Jonnin replied to Glock30's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
the judge trusts him to show for trial, not related to the charges. Bail is based off the flight risk, and you are talking about a guy who came out of hiding to turn himself in once already, someone with no record nor particular criminal bent to his behavior. No sense in a multimillion bail for this man. -
Storage, organization and stockpiling. How do you do it?
Jonnin replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I have a big box full of defense ammo for the grab & go calibers --- 9mm, 44, 223, 45, a few others. My long term reloading supplies are just stowed around my press area, where they will be used. If I have to leave, I will have to take a moment to pack that stuff, so be it. -

I am now on GZ's side. I feel that he messed up BIG by following, confronting, and so forth. Extremely poor judgement. But it was NOT murder either. Possibly manslaughter, or one of the other accidental or incidental charges, but murder 2 is too harsh for the circumstances. This alone puts me against the prosecution fully. Also, I agree with his bail and freedom, he turned himself in and, while I feel he made a terribad mistake, is not a criminal or thug. What a zoo. They are going to have to pull the jurors from like cambodia or something to find someone who is not biased. -
223 is fairly cheap. 22 mag is nice but its not going to take you very long range and won't feel any stouter than your 22 LR if you wanted to feel it. 223 is not very much recoil either, for that matter, but it will go a decent distance and you can at least feel the recoil, esp in a bolt gun it feels like a rifle. My advice is to reload for something flexible, like your mauser. You can load that to gentle 100 yard 223 level rounds all the way up to full power loads that will carry hundreds of yards accurately, and it would be fairly cheap. I reload my mauser (765) for about $35 per 100. I could do it for much, much less but I am addicted to high quality slugs.
