I think by the time I were down to making my own crummy, corrosive black powder from what I can dig out of the ground, and my own bullets from whatever lead I can scavenge or dig up, etc, I would be better served with a bow and arrows or a xbow.

What you want is hard to find, most double action guns have a sloppy and long trigger even in SA mode. Most SA guns are 1911 style only. I am going to say, get a SA revolver in 357 maybe, .... as reliable as a glock, and as good a shooter as a 1911... thats what you asked for...

ok wide body, adjustable rear sight, double stack: its most likely a 1990's remake of the makarov made by Baikal for US consumers who had so loved the mil surplus maks. These ended around 1995. Or, its a FEG SMC 380. I cannot tell without a picture for sure. Or measurements, the FEG is much smaller. PA is for the company that imported it, as is the rest of those markings, it was imported by KBI in harrisburg PA USA. So were a lot of things. Any chance there is a FEG up near the business end of the barrel on the slide? It would be large and out-dented or indented.

If some other kid is shooting the place up, that would be acceptable (vs standing there with your mouth open). I was thinking having disabled guns (buyback program and rejects?) that cannot be made to function used to demonstrate "don't point that thing at anyone" sort of things. This is how it works, this is what not to do, etc. This is your friend. This is your friend after you pointed an "unloaded" gun at his head an pulled the trigger. That would be a winner of a poster.

I was not saying I like the fees, or approve of them, or that no one struggles to pay it. I personally think the class is a total waste of time and a form of tax. I was just saying that the cost has not prevented many, many folks from getting a permit, as the classes are full every week and a lot of permits are being issued each month. Surely it would be more if the class were $40 instead, of course, and that would be a good thing. I don't know that the state gets much of the rest of the fee for the class. I could be wrong but I thought the fee covered the instructor's pay, the range maintence, targets, insurance/liability, and other expenses (power/building/restroom/etc at the classroom, etc), as well as a small profit for the shop offering the class. Anyone know the breakdown of the price? Personally I would see the "class" part of the permit moved to highschool classrooms (part of the drugs, booze, and sex class that all must take) so that everyone has a few hours of gun safety, even nonshooters. I would remove the useless shooting test requirement, as it does not prove competence and adds expense to the class and would be unacceptable for highschool kids (age alone is a problem here, as some would be 17 even if seniors). And, I would move toward permitless carry with a permit possible to get for travel to other states. But no one asks me.

I still have 2 boxes of norma for argentine 1909. I have not seen it in some time, are they still in business? The only concern I would have is the age of the stuff may mean some duds, it was fine back in the day.

There is a 12 rounder too. I was trying to ID the gun first, as I think finding a mag will be easier after that. If all you can find is a 8 shot mak magazine, there was a way to make them not wobble but I do not recall how.
-
Ah... I forgot about these. Does it have an adjustable rear sight?

the 90 day wait is largely due to the number of apps being processed. The fee isnt stopping anyone. With the price of ammo and guns being what they are, and novices not knowing how to reduce those costs, the price of the class really is not that much. Ive seen new shooters eat up $50 in ammo in an hour with their shiny new .45 or 380 etc.

some maks were converted by poking a 380 barrel onto them; it could be one of those. Is the marking on the barrel? You are correct the czs do not have wraparound grips. If it has wraparound grips and the mag release is on the bottom of the grip (undernath) its most likely a converted mak. If it seems to be double stack, its a russian.
-
can you post a pic? A mak is a bit larger than a 380 in diameter. If you try to stick a 380 bullet in the barrel from the front, and its a loose fit, its a mak. If its a double stack mak, its either a cz 82 or a russian late generation makarov. I can probably tell the difference if its one of those, from your pic. If its a 380 of some sort, I have no idea. I don't k now the exact dimensions though.

Very nice. I have always liked gerber, several of my favorites were made by them. The handle curve is different from the crkt one, but its still very similar overall.

that looks like one of the lightweight columbia rivers knife & tool "military" knives (but made in taiwan, IIRC). They are ultra lightweight with a fast open thumb knob, lockblade -- its seems to be a fighting knife design but makes a fine cutting tool and the larger ones would be usable as a hunting knife. If its the same thing, the pic is a bit hard to tell so I am guessing.

only thing the plastic-nosed hornady has failed me on was my 44 mag desert eagle. It did not fit in the clip well and the plastic thingys bind up (could not even fully load the clip). Every other pistol the stuff has fed well and no complaints. I got the stuff a generation or so ago, though (bought fresh ammo before obama was elected, as it was plain to me he was going to win) so their current generation of this stuff may work in the 44 also. I have tried it in several 9mm, 40, 380, 357 (rev), 38 sp (rev) guns.

I think most users get a slip over hogue (?) grip or similar product. If the grip is not part of the frame (it may be?) then its probably a couple of screws to replace it. If it IS part of the frame, there isnt anything you can do apart from slip overs. If its just a color problem, you may be able to find a product to change the color.

I just went thru my dad's collection, and the ones that were stored in the leather holsters they came with all had green slime on them. I am going to have to clean them this week. The folders he was having trouble with he appeared to have oiled lightly and wrapped in foil. They were all fine. Others were in the original wax/treated paper and those were also fine. The ones that he had wrapped all came in cheap display boxes (plastic with felt over them sort of stuff) and you can see where the metal and felt had an issue. So, anyway, don't store them in their leather sheath or display cases.
-
did you polish the feed ramp? they can be a little rough on some guns and be part of the issue. Rather than look for a *brand* look a the actual cartridge. A longer nose with a smaller hole may feed better, in general, while a fatter/flatter head with a bigger hole may not, in general. Mine is a 40 so I am not going to mention specific brands.

Moved to Alabama...TN Permit still Valid?
Jonnin replied to BrandonTN's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
yes and no. There should be a grace period, but this is something you should check out, which should allow your permit to function for a month or so until you can get a new one for your current state. The same is true of your drivers, but you want to find out how long you have & get a new one ASAP. -
Looking for gun store that gives FAIR trades in Memphis/Jackson area
Jonnin replied to Links2k's topic in General Chat
I find I can usualy be "happier" with trades than trying to sell for cash. Cash, you get the lowest offers around: folks find a similar gun on the net, offer you even less since you dont have to ship it, etc, or you are up against the whosalers etc. A trade, even if you lost "value" you get back something you like better, will actually shoot, etc, which is better than getting chump change for your weapon which usually is not enough to buy a replacement. -
There are some cheap deals on brass too, its a little more but when you reuse the case several times, the price per shot goes way way down. I think the batch I got was $40 for 100 rounds brass case PMC or something.

Thats the fullsize, it has 3 sizes under the same name. Mine is the same length as my P-40 (same as the listed P-11), thats the subcompact version. I dont know the weight but its HEAVY for its size for sure. The rest of them I don't own, only looked at, and am not sure of the weights & lengths without looking each one up. The smallest XD fits in my pocket, so its 6.5 or less, but thats about all I know of it.

Make it legal to carry without permit: yes or no?
Jonnin replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
It is. Other laws are in place to prevent the poor from owning a firearm, including a tax on ammo, bans (in some places) on a poorly defined "saturday night special" type of gun (its a ban on cheap pistols, effectively), and more. Its just like a poll tax, and the paper test is a literacy test. So you have to have *some* money and *some* education to own a firearm, which would cause outrage and lawsuits if the same rules were applied to the right to vote, or the right to speak, etc. No matter if they make sense, even the most sensible laws such as no gun in court is an infringement, however in court, your right to speak is also infringed (the judge can have a number of things done to you if you are vocal during a court session). -
You pay the vendor for the gun and the tax on it. You pay the FFL for his fee, and nothing more. You pay the FFL for the background check too, I am pretty sure, as the online guy cannot verify your picture against your person.

very nice, though it is missing a couple of models. Beretta px4, springfield XD, and while unsure of exact models there should be more glocks, taurus in the mix, as well as at least 1 HK and pretty sure ruger has one (?), and that is just off the top of my head. Not all these are labeled with the undefined terms "compact" or "subcompact" but are all less than 6.5 inches if memory serves, some may be slightly over 6.3 if that is your cutoff instead. There are also some "off" brands such as bersa that probably have at least 1 contender.

Ammo cases expand normally. My .44 revolver is the door type (open a door to load one by one, the cylinder does not swing out), and gravity will let the case go in and out as you tilt the gun. After shooting, the built in ramrod is needed to extract the cases, and sometimes it is difficult, due to the expansion. Also, freshly fired cases are hot and allowing them to cool a bit can make them easier to remove, if one is badly stuck. I have always been able to extract mine, but once in a while you get one that is difficult, this is normal. Difficult means, still able to extract it by hand, with a great deal of force. If you need external tools to extract the cases on a regular basis, clean the gun, and if that does not do it, get a smith to check it out, its not normal to have the problem all the time. Split cases are NOT normal in factory ammo. 2 things to watch, as was said, the same chamber of your gun producing splits, and the other is multiple split from the same box of ammo. If its random chambers and more than 1 in a box of ammo, return the ammo along with the cases. If its the same cylinder every time, get a gunsmith to take a look. Reloaded 44s can split as well, and eventually they WILL, if you keep reusing the same brass. I cannot remember the last time I split a factory case; a split case in factory ammo is a 1/500 or fewer problem at a rough guess from my experience. A short barrel 44mag is going to hammer you, yes. You can practice with 44 specials to reduce this if you want to shoot the gun a lot. This type of gun is for self defense, really and its not designed to be a pleasent shooter on the range where you pop 50 rounds thru it without a break. Ouch! Soft rubberized and wide grips help a ton with this problem. Also, what *type* of ammo was it? 44mag ammo can vary a lot, from under 200 grains to 300 (and up?? not sure what largest is off the top). A 300 grain deer hunting load is fairly brutal, and going to be worse in a snubbie. A 180 grain target load is much more bearable for range type shooting sprees. If your hand is swelling, it is a bad thing, you are actually causing injury to your hand, and should take steps to avoid this. Another option is to have your barrel ported, possibly.
