That is a good point, I forgot that mills now have computers doing the work, used to the hand operated type. So yea its an inferior way to make one than a milling machine, in that case. I want a 3d but not now. Later, when its cheap to get a metal one, if that ever happens.
-
The difference is that 0.000001% of the population can buy a mill and make a gun. 90% of the population can buy a printer and print a gun.

this typical white person says it is not racist, but what does he know?

I have often taken issue with people that claim our constitution provides "god given" rights. Best I can recall, the authors were MEN. Also, best I can recall, they left in place a process to modify the document in case they messed something up, a deity would not need this. They may, or may not, have been divinely inspired. They were, um, a 'colorful' lot however and um, 'difficult' to see as holy men or prophets or something of that nature. Also, prophets generally announce themselves as such. And, generally, if referring to the christian concept and history, it seems unlike HIM to encourage freedom of religion? I don't argue that we have god-given (or, if you prefer, "for existing") rights, just saying that the constitution is a work of man. ---------- Breaking it down, these rights are given, and therefore a gift. All people get them, free, as a gift. Kinda like santa, you don't have to believe, but if you get a new bike under the tree that says "from santa" on it, you take the thing and smile.

Its not scary yet --- the price of a printer > price of a gun. When that changes.... but it will be a WHILE before the METAL printers are mainstream. ATM most at home folks can get the plastic and even that is kinda pricy.

Well I finally got to talk to a few!!

They inadvertantly admitted how bad it really is today. I saw a news blurb that congress wants *monthly* !!!!!!!!!! reports on the progress of the repair of the web site. Now, in the internet world, a site that is borked is fixed nearly overnight, or at the worst, in a day or 2. Not MONTHS later. Because if your site is busted for months, or down for months, people give up on it. Its just not in the cards to have problems on that scale. Heck the worst stuff I have seen, new online multiplayer game launches, are only screwed up for a week, 2 at the most for the worst of the worst. They fix it fast or they lose all their customers. Naturally, there is no competition due to the mandate, but when a site takes more than a week to fix, its BAD. -
This really sums it up. And, as I have said before, if the person would swap out 5-8 with 5) make friends with the officer and comply with any reasonable request whether its the law or not we would make a lot more progress. 9 would not exist, 10 would be a happy story, and 11 would be a little bit more awareness and positive view of gun owners.

Even the long 410 is not much more impressive than a big pistol round -- in a long gun, even a lightweight one, its still weaker than 20ga. Ive shot it out of a pistol and its weaker than a 44 mag. And a 44 in a long gun is not much more impressive than a 223.

Now that is a lazy, no-good sob right there. Not only is he too lazy to work and get along like a normal human, he is so dadgum lazy that he only half-asses being a thug. Not a hard criminal? Of course he wasn't, that takes *work* --- probably harder work (but better paying) than just getting a job. What kind of lazy idiot are you raising woman, that is so lazy and stupid he risked his life to get pocket change robbing a dinky store? Woo-hoo, I stole 300 bucks, that will last like, 2 days or something. Idiot.

16 feet is not that far, shows how little it takes to do serious harm. Such a waste, but if it were me, I probably would have pulled the plug too.

ITAR is a big blanket that prevents ANY tech that can be used for military purposes from leaving the USA. Even if you invent it in your basement on your own time, the second you go to sell it or give it away outside the country, big brother has the right to step in and tell you to cease and desist. Normally, this is a good thing --- most of the things covered could be used by terrorists to cause some serious harm to us or our allies, or gives them info on how our crap works to better defend against it --- but this is a misuse of the blanket (big surprise?) by the feds to push their anti gun agenda. Normally small arms designs are not covered by ITAR, nor are the ammo and so on. It is normally reserved for cutting edge tech -- things best not discussed but for a well known example, if they were plans on how to print up a working ICBM they would be wise to step in for such a thing...

the cowboy action guys shoot that stuff in a double barrel that can't jam. My 1100 works with some lower recoil shells, not sure about that specific type, but to get it to work on the weak stuff I had to have the gas holes bored out a couple of sizes bigger --- until I did this, it would not cycle. Once you do that, full power loads are harder on the gun and the shooter... it works but you may want to get a second barrel for it, one for low recoil and one for stout loads, if you want the gun for multiple purposes.

Is the size of the gun awkward for her such that she is doing this to somehow try to find a more comfortable position or grip? Or trying to tuck the gun into her body instead of her shoulder? I have seen a little of this sort of thing when the gun was just too long for the shooter. It has to be one of just a couple of things... eye dominance as people said is a big one, or trying to get comfortable in an unfamiliar position, or possibly in her mind she flipped something watching you show her (some kids and even many adults see something demonstrated and reverse it). Can't think of too many other causes here.

410 is the smallest, but it is also very expensive per shot. 20 is much more reasonable and is quite mild. A 20 auto will be even more gentle, and with a recoil pad like a slip on limbsaver type, it would be suitable for most adults and probably suitable for the majority of people over age 10 or more than 4 foot tall. 12 can be made reasonable. An auto loader with a good recoil pad and mild loads can be a good setup but you may have to tinker with the gun a lot to get it to cycle on the mild loads. This is not the best option but it can be done. A break action or pump is going to have more recoil (slightly in some cases, more in others, depends) as the auto uses some of the energy to cycle and push on springs etc. But a break open 12 can shoot any type of ammo, without jams, so light 12s work. A pump also does not care about the ammo potency to function but a non-shooter may find the action intimidating or annoying to use. So, a pump or break open in any gauge or a 20 auto seem to bubble up as your top choices...

The enemy used what they had and were supplied by russians .... of course a few mosins were used. Probably not many, but a few. possibly, as sniper rifles (?). I don't know. But if you internet search "vietnam mosin" you will get a lot of pictures of soldiers carrying what look like mosins and tons of people commenting that it was indeed used SOME, if rarely. Too many hits for it to be complete nonsense IMHO. The only verification would be bring back/ capture papers, yes. The gun could have been used there and ended up here without a trace too, and no proof at all about it. I am not aware of any way to ID a mosin from nam -- not like they restamped them or anything that I know of. One or 2 hits indicate they were used as sniper or counter sniper gear. But the truth in that is in the web... it could be BS too.

If you want the fox pelts, you should use something that will not rip the poor thing to shreds. 308 will do excessive damage to small game. So will tumbly 223 rounds. In that regard, 300 BO might be a great choice. However 300 bo almost requires you to load your own. If you load your own, in a bolt gun, you can use darn near anything for this job -- a 308 moving at 1/2 its normal velocity for example might be awesome, or a 223 with a 1500 fps load, etc. If you do not care about the pelt, you can use a cannon for all it matters. I would say 22 mag but not sure at 300... ??? If it can go the distance with fatal impact, it would do the least pelt damage (?).

I looked at it but there isnt much brass to be had, 99.99% of the ammo is steel apparently. If you want to reload, use an AR (223, 300 BO, something like that) that performs similarly but has readily available brass casings. Thought #2 would be to pull and reassemble the steel junk. As in take them all apart, get an average weight of the powder charge they used, and put em back together with dead on consistent powder charges. That might get you some match grade ammo cheaply. Might even slug your bore, a .311 or 312 or something bullet may actually engage the rifling better and shoot tighter groups (??). You could probably sell the pulled projectiles if you did that. Thought #3 is you can reload steel if you really want to go there.... people have done it. I think you can reuse it in the gun that fired it without resize or trim, right? Not sure, but it should be possible, just clean it so it is slick, and if stored, maybe coat it in something to prevent rust (?).

Ugg. I just got back from lunch with my mom and she tells me someone is trying to get a mortgage on her property, thankfully they called her for more info on it and she put a stop to that. Now, we have our suspicions about who is doing it but no proof so I can't really track down the sucker (yet). My question is, what do I need to do to make sure no one has done ID theft or borrowed against her credit/property/etc somehow. I sent her off to run a credit report ASAP, but I am not sure what the next step needs to be. Maybe I will have to spring for one of those lifelock type services... ? I know a number of you have had to deal with crooked relatives and such and have some experience with this sort of thing.... Thanks!

Yes. My point was, if making both calibers, start with the 9 and it can more easily be reduced to the 380 than the other way around, keeping costs down by having more parts in common, etc. The sig 938 is what you get when you start with 380 ... basically a do-over on the entire piece.

Its a lot to pay, for sure. But think on it this way... if colt made the gun today, it would carry a price on par with their 1911s, probably about $1k price tag. Colt likes to charge a good $300 - 500 for stamping their logo on a gun; they are well made sure, but there is a brand name recognition factor. The python had a decent production run but its been out of production for a long time now. So today's price reflects a bunch of things at once --- a well made pistol that is decades out of production, desired by collectors and shooters alike, from a big brand, is arguably one of the best revolvers ever made, and so on. All for a price that people do not bat an eye over when its a plastic AR or mid grade 1911, but for a collectable, top of the line revolver, its too high? I argue that the price is not so bad considering all that. However, you do notice that I sold mine. You can buy at least 2 very nice revolvers for that money, and as many as 4 nice but typical handguns or a whole crate of cheap hardware. It was worth more to me as cash, and I have just as much fun with my cheaper revolvers.

I did not have box/papers.

The kahr is better than the LC9 IMHO. Still too much trigger for my weak hands to get in enough practice, but its a nice pistol and healthy folks can use them. The LC9, I could not even make 1/2 a pull with one finger, and just barely set it off using 2 fingers. Its stout.

Need someone to turn router into a repeater
Jonnin replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
You should be able to run a cable the length of an "ordinary" sized home easily without any significant loss. If not, there is a problem in the system somewhere. A basic switch (again, wired, dunno if there even IS a wireless switch), value of about $20 (less used off amazon or something) will repeat a signal effectively as well. Routers CAN do it, but most routers cost much more than a switch. I avoid wireless. Its a pain to keep it secure, its intermittent in both quality and speed, the hardware costs more, and the only redeeming quality is being able to use a laptop or maybe a phone/tablet/printer/etc. Its getting better, but its still not *there* yet for me. Probably could get it to the same level as my cable, yes, but not for the same price tag... -
I think I got 1500 for mine a few years ago. They are not making any more of them, so I doubt the price is dropping.

He was asking about 9s and the little copy pistol is a 380. They did upgrade it to 9, LC9 might should be on your list (??). You might not like the sig then, short fairly easy trigger and safety needs clicked off. you can do a side by side compare of various models at www.genitron.com if that is of any use while you look, to at least compare dimensions, capacity, and a decently accurate stab at felt recoil comparison and a few other things.
