  1. the media supports them, they put TOY in quotation marks as if this were in question.
  2. whatever I can find.   I have 4 brands of powder now, at least 4 brands of primers.  Only 22 I ever see is gold painted junk, got ONE 100 pack of CCI pricy stuff.  Found 1 box of 9mm WWB a while ago.   At this point, if it has a brass case and is under $20 per 50 in centerfire, I will take it, or under $30 for 500+ 22.   Jack it more than this, and I will let it sit.
  3. crit defense is weak, but it expands nicely from my limited testing.  9x18 should be 1100-1200 fps out of a makarov pistol.  The last 20 years, it has steadily decreased in power for unknown reasons and is now often found at 900-1000 fps.  In the same timeframe, 380 ammo has improved dramatically.   I don't get it.   I love the bullet design of crit defense but they don't sell those yet. ---------- In other news, the ultra brass reloads worked 100%, I finally shot 1/2 a box this week.  Cut 9x19 is superior, and of course actual mak brass is better still.     ---------- I think all academy gets monarch in, it just goes fast.
  4. My wife has a cz kadet, which is a cz 75 in .22 and a very nice DA/SA gun.   It is quite accurate and mostly steel.    You can also get a .22 upper for a 1911 or a .22 as a 1911 (be careful, several are junky).   There are several expensive guns, if you wanted to hear about the $2k stuff?
  5. cane swords and knives are still popular; the airports take a ton of them off people every year.    Long ago, you could find some models that had a pistol as well; no one makes them now but if you look for antiques you might find one.   Wife uses a cane some, last time we flew they took it from her and "stored" it in a special compartment during the flight.
  6.   I would take a fighting staff over a knife any day given the restrictions on a decent knife in TN and most states.   If I could carry a real knife,  I might reconsider.
  7. the trick is to NOT grow bamboo.   Seriously, we have some and its a chore each year to keep it contained -- it can pop up and grow 2 feet tall in under a week, thankfully it is very soft when that young so you can still easily cut it down or even mow over it but it spreads like mad and LOVES the climate in TN.   It does a great job of growing up tall in a hurry for privacy, but you will have to maintain it a lot esp in the spring.
  8. bullets cost more as weight goes up -- I reload my 38s with a 95 grain 380 LRN for paper punching on the cheap.
  9. Looks like a slip up by the left to me.   The mayors against illegal guns is really mayors against all guns.  They try to downplay that and ensure everyone that they just want to stop crime, but the truth is they think that all guns are illegal in practice and people who somehow have one legally are thugs who found a loophole in the law that needs to be closed.   Look at the stupid things they want to ban: all 50 bmg, because those are used so often by criminals in typical gang shootouts. standard magazines, but they approve of the police and military having them, yet no one needs that many. semi auto rifles, because they look scary. pistol grips, because that makes it easier to hold the gun gangsta style during said shootouts with rifles that don't actually happen. transfers and sales, because people should not actually have guns transfers without registration, so its easier for their voters (inner city criminals) to find guns to steal to further their agenda if everyone knows where the guns are. .....   then look at what they do not want to do: -execute all violent criminals, to save money on taxes and put fear into thugs -take away ARs, semi auto pistols,  and normal capacity mags from the police, because 30 cops need 30 rounds each to handle the same 1 bad guy that civillians face alone (and can easily dispatch with 7 or less rounds) -anything that actually stops crime -anything that actually educates people how not to shoot theyselves -etc   and what you get after studing these groups is a desire to promote crime and protect criminals which furthers an agenda of martial law/ police state degradation of the country.    In other words, nothing new to see here.
  10. It works well until the bad guy has a gun.  I have seen some *impressive* displays with a hanbo, which is similar (a short bo, about 3 feet).
  11. Hah I love how they spin the weak power level as low-recoil.  I am a hornady fan, but a lot of their ammo, esp the crit defense lineup, is weak.
  12. Currently the US armed forces are about 3 million, 50% of whom are reserve. The US population is 300 million & change. 3% of 300 million is 9 million: roughly 3 times the size of the armed forces with the reserve.   I do not advocate any sort of nonsense at this time.  I am simply pointing to some numbers for reference.  3% of our population in an armed insurrection would be a HUGE deal.
  13. welcome!  Quite a pile of us in & around chattanooga.  We should party once we can all get some ammo :)
  14. she was caught in the line of fire because some idiot thought they were rival gang members and shot her to avenge some other shooting which was probably done to avenge some other shooting that probably was caused by...      Because of the high profile, they actually did an investigation and lo & behold, found the shooter.   Unlike the 12,537 other gang shootings over the past couple of years.
  15. 3 box limit, 1 box per caliber limit.   I have a bad habit of not even looking at anything but .22 because I make everything else.  There was a pile of other stuff too.
  16. The only 4 things I have seen actual, believable evidence of with steel ammo causing problems:   1) coating buildup -> stuck cases.  Mostly harmless, and largely a symptom of very HOT chambers melting the coating, such as a rapid fired AR. 2) bimetal, as said, is copper over steel over lead, and the rifling bites into the steel and while it is "soft" steel it is still rather abrasive in a barrel  (much more noticable at 3000 fps than at 800 for a 45..!!!)  ---- unsure but I suspect that poly rifling in a glock does not even break the copper jacket and there would be no extra wear in a .45 acp, anyone KNOW for sure? 3) extractor damage.  Mostly, this is created by problem #1 compouded by a steel case (extractor cant cut thru it) and crappy extractors (cheap metal in some brands). 4) Magazine lip damage, from steel on steel.  Nevermind the slow abrasion of normal shooting, what causes problems is a misfeed that gets dragged across the mag lips by the slide, and the hard steel won't give so whichever is stronger damages the other, and usually the steel case wins.     As you can see, all of these except wearing out your barrel are very minor.  Most companies will send you a free extractor if you break it.  Mag damage does not really hurt the *gun* proper, though mags are not cheap its not a crisis and its a very rare problem anyway.

Never heard of it.  The cylinder should not be able to move when the hammer is about to drop.  When it moves enough that the hole is no longer aligned with the barrel, and shaves off bits of the bullet, you have a problem that needs to be fixed.  Some revolvers have a little play (some by design, some by low quality control) when the hammer is down, and that is harmless, the internals will "catch up".
  18. I was not throwing stones, I was simply observing that in many cases, SS money is effectively going to people in their early 30s who have moved back in with momma.   SS needs to be optional, and a straight you get out what you put in + interest earned.  Medicare I approve of and will continue to do so until a number of other things have been reformed first (malpractice law, to start).
  19. academy @ hamilton place had .22 at the service desk.   I arrived at 8am and they had almost sold out of CCI 100 round plastic boxs and had a fair number of 50 rounc CCI blazer boxes left.   It won't last much longer,  depending on how hard up you are you might get a 50 round box in the next 1/2 hour though.
  20. might not want to say TOO much about the sales tax, cough.
  21. I was a band guy who could not play anything really.   Ended up horsing around on stage crew, which was much better.  Most of my friends made decent progress with the music but I just never got into it.
  22.   Agreed.   And we (most anyone on this forum) will be long gone when the untouched ones have any "real" value (as in, 1k +); that  will take 50-75 years or more.    I guess the important thing to take away..... at least KNOW if your gun is a "rare or uncommon" variation before you hacksaw.
  23. why, I would react like a liberal who found out the school had a prayer session: a total S417FIT!
  24. I checked it tonight for you.   The ultra is thicker, and the "rim" is a little different, but it hand-cycles cleanly thru my gun.  It should feed and work, these are russian military specs and not all that picky about the ammo anyway.  Humorously, the brass says "police" on the rim.   (its 9mm police ultra or something as we know it in the states).     If you can find some of this brass for sale, go for it.     --- anyone who did not already know it: do NOT FIRE ultra ammo in a 9x18 mak pistol.  I am ONLY saying that the BRASS will work in a pinch to make your own!
  25. The elderly have saved all their lives for retirement, paid off their homes and cars, get a break on property taxes, have no education/child expenses, and in general should be in pretty good shape apart from medical costs which are government assisted.   What did I miss?  I do not know everyone of course (and obviously some elderly did not save up or plan ahead properly and are hurting by their own hands) but it seems like the other way around is much more common these days ---- tons of younguns with no job and a sack full of whelps moving back in with grandma to mooch off her savings.   The elderly would not need so much help if their kids would grow up!!!!
