  1. Congrats. Another chamber to feed! Best of luck.
  2. Nice idea. I'm surprised the lawyers let it go through given the possible liability, real or perceived.
  3. +1 ABO = Anybody but Obama. He's a disaster thus far. There are corresponding issues here - Ideology and Leadership. I am tired of the near socialist approach of th Dems. Obama has a ZERO leadership ability. Of all the potential opponents I really like none of them. No one has mentioned Gingrich. His personal baggage may cost him but he'll get in the game at some time. To me it is a sad comment on our country that we don't have more qualified candidates in the mix. Control of Congress is crucial. But I'm severely disappointed with the latest version. The House has not lived up to expectations. If we don't get a handle on spending and debt we are in for a very difficult time I fear.
  4. Good point. Best of luck. I am very happy with the safe I bought from The Safe House and hope you get what you want. Let us know how it turns out.
  5. Decent specs but I'm not sure just how secure it would be having been fitted together in pieces. Perhaps someone familiar with them will respond. Have you checked out The Safehouse in Nashville? Good products and great service.
  6. Sorry, no offense intended... My comment was meant to be a reflection on Wiki (which is quoted as gospel far too often, imo), not on your statement. (Been traveling or would have responded sooner.) Cheers...
  7. You "loose" (try lose) the debate because you have a weak argument. We didn't all hate Germans, Chinese or anyone else for no reason. It sounds like you would simply let anyone enter illlegally. We simply need to enforce current laws. If we did alot of our problems in this area would go away. I for one am willing to pay a little more for lettuce and strawberries to bolster the integrity of our country. By not enforcing the immigration laws for everyone we denigrate (lessen) them for everyone else who has followed the legal path. What does this say to all the folks who have stood in visa lines around the world and entered the U.S. according to U.S. law. We are slowly losing our own sovereignty.
  8. Back to the original post. Don't take the claims that NK has an EMP capability as being gospel. These people aren't 10 feet tall. Remember, this is a country that can't generate enough electricity for even its basic needs. They can't feed themselves. They are still in an analog world, so to speak. They certainly don't have an ICBM delivery vehicle which is what it would take to hit the continental U.S. with anything. The propaganda that comes out of there is meant to hoodwink their own people. On the subject of an effectively delivered EMP, I believe most of what is described in "One Second After" is the actual result IF powerful enough. Even if it wasn't I believe even half of the resulting impact would put most of our poplace in dire straits. If cell phones, the electronic banking system, point of sale, etc. were affected the result would be near chaos for many. All the more reason to be as well prepared as possible.

    Looking for advice

I carry the G23 and love it for numerous reasons. My wife chose the Ruger SP101. Like others have said, let her shoot 'em and decide. The more the better. Good luck with whatever you decide on. And stay safe...
  10. "Not gonna do it. Wouldn't be prudent."
  11. Not sure what your "redoing" project is but I pulled up a large deck once. My son and I used two long crow bars and hammers. We just pulled the 2x6s up over the nail heads then hammered the nails down or pulled them up. We then took the pressure treated 2x6s that were gnarly on top and turned them over where they were like new on bottom and screwed them back down. It is indeed hard work. Good luck. Oh, and +1 on the tetanus shot. I had to take time out to go get mine updated when I put a rusty nail into my hand.
  12. Sincere condolences, sir.
  13. You gotta look at the context of Reagan's election and presidency. His budget increases were largely tied to rebuilding a military that had been in decline since Viet Nam. Remember that during the Carter years the economy had tanked and the U.S. was considered very weak - the economy and the Iranian hostage crisis had put the U.S. in a "malaise". Reagan promised to revive America. I think he did so in a large manner. While we spent alot of treasure in doing so, we did win the Cold War. Our country became stronger for it. Domestically, as others have noted, he broke PATCO, the air traffic controllers union. My guess is that he would not have been too keen on supporting other public sector unions.
  14. Forgive me if this has been posted before. I could not find it on the Forum. Not surprisingly from the WAPO, many of the articles have a negative tone to their titles. There is alot of reading here and I have not been through it all. I'm sure the slant is anti-gun. The Hidden Life of Guns - A Washington Post Investigation
  15. "A man our Army rejected as unfit for service; a man one of our colleges deemed too unstable for studies; a man apparently bent on violence, was able to walk into a store and buy a gun," he lamented. I'm with you Sith. I don't mind a check if it will keep unfit persons from legally obtaining a gun. However, until the mental health profession and law enforcement hook up there is nothing that will stop guys like the Arizona or Virginia Tech shooters. There is no perfect answer to this problem. Common sense should prevail.... but guess the definition of common sense is then debatable.
  16. BHO wants us to think he might use the Strategic Oil Reserves. I'm not sure he does and may be trying to bring the price of oil down by doing so. (To me this isn't a case for releasing the SOR.) He walks a fine tightrope. He wants his wackie leftist policies but also wants to be re-elected. If he REALLY wanted to help he'd have a comprehensive plan to drill for/recover domestic oil, build new nuclear plants and invest in solar and wind to make it more economic. I don't see anything coming from the Repubs either, however. There is no single energy answer nor should anything be off the table.
  17. To call Katie Couric a journalist is an outrage. CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN... they are all the same. Some great points made here. Why aren't we seeing the brave soldiers who have died returning from Afghanistan when their remains arrive at Dover? Wasn't that a great outcry during Bush II? Funny how it ain't so fun when the rabbit's got the gun. I'm with Crimson.... we are destroying our great U. S. society, a la Rome. Rep. Peter King wants to check out why good Muslims are being influenced by bad Muslims and you'd think he'd killed the Pope. Didn't the lefties want to do the same thing after Oklahoma City? But this is different! Oh, right. God, this makes my blood boil. I have a son-in-law in Afghanistan on is fourth deployment. God Bless all our brave women and men in uniform around the world. (sorry for the rant but i am sick of this crap).
  18. Wash - Congrats. That is definitely sweet. I notice you are a Glock guy, too. I have resisted going to the .45 simply so I don't have to introduce another caliber. However, that is one fine looking carry weapon. Let us know how you like it.
  19. I agree with only selling to persons who are legal but is it really necessary when it is obvious that the person is way over the legal minimum age? Especially when the server/checkout person doesn't really read it but quickly glances and returns it? If it is a law/policy, then it seems to be an overeaction. Should there be ANY question then I do believe they should ask for identification and then take the time to scrutinize it. Is it a great problem for me? No. Is it an annoyance? Yes. ( I hate it even worse when people ask for my zip code at the checkout.)
  20. Wasni't the steel workers union a big part of the reason for the fall of the steel industry in the U.S.?
  21. That video was sent to me this afternoon. Quite an invention and well ahead of its time. A .46 cal repeating rifle. I now plan to read "Undaunted Courage", too. A classic I hadn't got around to reading.
  22. This is my last. Respectfully, I believe you have a very shortsighted view of foreign policy and certainly no experience in it. Ron Paul won't be elected because his views also don't represent a majority of the people. But that's one reason we are still a great country, right? Everyone can have their own ideas, views and beliefs and voice them aloud without fear of retribution. Even those on the far fringes from both sides of the political scale. 1. Its naive to think that proping up dictators and micro-managing 3rd world countries benefits us around the world. We are the most hated country in the world, yet we give out the most foreign aid. Let them go to our adversaries for assistance. What do we really need from India, Egypt, Israel, or any of these countries? (We have enough oil in this country) We are not "micro-managing" any countries, that's laughable. Would love to hear your specific examples. As a percentage of GDP we aren't even in the top 20 countries in foreign aid. To say we don't need anything from any countries is equally silly. Have you ever heard of China, Russia, North Korea, Pakistan? I believe you have a myopic view of the world. It is not all about oil. 2. We bombed Iraq to the stoneage and then sent massive amounts of foreign aid to them to rebuild their country. Thats just one example of many. Ridiculous statements. Iraq wasn't bombed into the proverbial stoneage. Would be interested in learning of the "many" others. But if we had, based on your earlier pronouncement, that makes us an isolationist country. But we're not isolationist if we give away so much money. You can't have it both ways. 3. There will always be Terrorism reguardless, but certain policies can make it worse. Bombing and entire country(Iraq) that wasnt even involved in 9-11 gives the terrorists a major recruiting tool and a sense of legitimacy among certain groups (defending their country from foreign invaiders). I don't think the people murdered on 9-11 had it coming if thats what you're saying but I do believe our foreign policy had a significant roll in it. The other countries that are being attacked are our allies who share our polices or other Muslim countries. You don't see Switzerland or any neutral countries being attacked. Switzerland could be attacked tomorrow but I believe their foreign policy reduces their chances. Muslim terrorists hate us for how we live and believe and what we stand for - i.e., democratic freedoms, liberty, opportunity and simply not folllowing Islam. We could stick our heads in the ground as apparently you think we should and we would still be attacked. Do some research and check out the terrorism climate in Scandavia. No more neutral countries around but they have a problem there. 4. Is it ok to forcefully take one percent of every U.S. citizens Income and give it to foreign governments? All of this money leaves America and we are all 1 percent poorer. Plus when you are broke should you keep spending money or pay off your debts? These one percent programs fast add up. The domestic programs need to be cut out too but there are going to have to be cuts across the board. Forcefully? Our elected Senators and Representatives did that. They also "forcefully" took every other cent of taxpayers money. Do you believe all that was wrong, too?
