US President Barack Obama's offer to talk to Iran shows that America's policy of "domination" has failed, the government spokesman said on Saturday. "This request means Western ideology has become passive, that capitalist thought and the system of domination have failed," Gholam Hossein Elham was quoted as saying by the Mehr news agency.

"Negotiation is secondary, the main issue is that there is no way but for (the United States) to change," he added.

After nearly three decades of severed ties, Obama said shortly after taking office this month that he is willing to extend a diplomatic hand to Tehran if the Islamic republic is ready to "unclench its fist".

In response, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad launched a fresh tirade against the United States, demanding an apology for its "crimes" against Iran and saying he expected "deep and fundamental" change from Obama.

I knew this would be the reaction that they would have. Most arabs and persians as well subscribe to a very simple and predictable viewpoint.

1. if they appear weak, attack them.

2. take what ever you can get and run away.

3. if they appear strong and willing to kill you or endanger your family negotiate with your enemy.

Order of loyalty : God,Immediate family, extended family, clan, tribe, nation.

We should have bombed that country flat back in 1979...but we had Jimmy the useless in office.

Obama, will more than likely be a disappointment when it comes to this particular arena

hahah Yes, Daniel..I understand that they're not the same...having spent some small amount of time in that region..not only in Iraq, Kuwait and SA. but Egypt and Israel as well.

More to the point, I've had a couple of those types of people try to kill me...one tends to learn all about them when that happens.:D

We've were playing 'Mr. Nice Guy' long before Obama had his hands in the mix.

This is supposed to be a new era of enlightenment with Sharia rule for all.

Edited to add: and some more than others.

They need a refresher course on just how "deep and fundamental" we can really be. Blowing that entire pile of camel s**t ridden sand off the face of the earth would be a good start.

Nope! Obama isn't likely going to be the guy to do it, but neither was the last moron we were stuck with.

That tends to happen as well once they figure out who's winning.

We all know a "little boy" dropped from a B-29 can really promote CHANGE !!

We are trying to fix that part of the world anyway, why not start from scratch ?

Some people try to put a quart of Lucas in an engine that has a rod knocking. It needs to be torn down to bare block and rebuilt. OR we could just step back and wait for it to sling a rod through the oil pan!:D:D

I agree that they tend to switch sides..but not with their enemy..they just look for different antagonists to help them out...in Iran's case it would more than likely be the new and improved Russia. they're really hurting right now because the bottom dropped out of crude..

That would give Russians a new theater to play "stop imperialist aggression"...but I doubt that would happen. the Persians remember afghanistan all to well. more than likely they would start screaming to the UN about how they were a "victim" and we needed to be leashed, etc.

the rest of the world would wonder what took us so long.

Me? I say we let them say what they want until we have proof..then mail the proof to their government with an note saying goodbye.

they should get it about the time the old b52's start their arc-light raids of teheran.

Newsflash: Human Rights Watch suddenly okay with 'extraordinary rendition'.

It was acceptable when Clinton was president, its' acceptable now that the O is president, but under Bush it was a terrible evil, requiring immediate release of the detainees, reparations, and apologies.

Lying Hypocrites - there oughta be a bounty.

SteelHarp, how about a quote from your buddy on this?
