If I ever went back to the dark side (1911s) that would probably be my first buy.

I dig the Commander size and I really dig the "bobtail" treatment.

BTW, good work on the grips.

It is black locust burl (whatever that is). I got bored and decided to try making grips. This is my first set. I have a couple more in the works.

A burl in wood is abnormal growth pattern/rings due to that area of the tree being distressed in some way and the wood continuing to grow around the "wound", from insects, constriction, fungus, whatever. A burl pattern also sometimes happens where a limb joins a tree, although this isn't how the term is usually used.
