New Tattoo Thoughts

Recommended Posts

I have been thinking about two new tattoos for several months now. They will be a play on the traditional purgatory - Good on one arm, evil on the other, with the person in the middle in his own purgatory...

The hell side of my purgatory is easy for me to visualize. It will consist of a demon with a hospital bed or maybe the demon being on life support -breathing machine, IV bag... with much discretion given to the artist for what will look good.

Where I'm having problems is with my heaven side. This one will symbolize my mother's love. When I think about her love, I see many things. But none of these things will translate into ink that well.

I do not want the cheesy ribbon\name or a portrait. So, I'm thinking of some sort of traditional`ish symbolism.

Something such as an angel in her likeness or maybe even a beautiful koi.

Which brings me to my first question. Are there any other symbolisms that I'm over looking? Give me some idears, guys!

The next question; does it matter which arm the heaven and hell goes on traditionally? I really don't want to be like "that guy" we all knew in the 90s that got the wrong eat pierced :usa:

Save money and brain cells. Just go over and hug your mother as often as possible - love'm while you got'm. She'll love you greatly for it.

Got any favorite pictures of you and her that you could look to for inspiration? Favorite memories?

Got a pic of her holding you as a baby? To me, that's the classic "mother's love" image. If you don't want an actual portrait, there's some basic symbology around that concept as well.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. Still have at least a few months before I go in so keep'em coming!

Good idea. I haven't thought about her holding me as a baby. I do not want a portrait or a photo tattooed because, quite frankly, I've never seen one hold up well over time. But I might go with the angel I was thinking about and adding a baby in her arms.

The Messiah's mom, she's always great for inspiration.

I'm no Catholic, but I love well done, tasteful depictions of her.

Strangely enough, I've always loved religious tattoo art. And that's surprising if ya know me :)
