Does anyone have a clue why I can't load 7 rounds into a 7-round mag that's brand freakin' new, aside from the fact its a cheaply manufactured weapon? I haven't shot this impulse-buy of mine yet, wonder if that'll turn out like crap too....and no I don't was thinkin' of the weef on this one, I carry a 357 Mag.

Did you remove bottom plate to add or try pinkie extension?

Follower probably not on spring correctly.

Here's a typical explanation:

"Trust me, I had the same problem. Here's the issue, when you got it, you took off the bottom plate to try the finger extension thingy right? Remember that little metal plate on the bottom of the spring with the latch on it that goes in the plate? It's easy to keep it from seating correctly. Take it apart again, and pay special attention to the little plate. If it doesn't work, try it again. It'll hold 7 rounds, trust me. It will. With one in the barrel it's an 8 round pocket 9 mm! If you can't get it, take the plate off and sand the sharp edge a bit so it slides into place better."

"OK, I took the mag apart - things looked fine when I took everything out. I put it back together and it now holds 7 like it should. I'm guessing the follower wasn't seated on the spring correctly. anyway - woo-hoo! all good now."

Let me warn you before you do shoot it...

Give it a very good cleaning. I would also recommend a 'fluff and buff' (http://www.thektog.org/tecwerks10.htm). It's sad that a new gun would need this, but it seems Kel-Tec saves money by not having a tightly controlled quality check.

I have the PF9 and the first time shooting it, got a bullet stuck in the barrel. They replaced basically the entire gun for me. They also performed a factory fluff and buff.

ALso, Very important, use the proper ammo. New load only, brass cased, no +P. I use Hornady Critical Defense 115gr and haven't had an issue since.

It really is a nice weapon once it gets broken in. Don't give up on it just yet!

Thanks OhShoot, bendbolden, and jmoe. I am doing the fluff-n-buff research now. I bought Golden Sabres ( 124 gr. NO +P ) for it. I do know enough not to shoot questionable ammo on something that's definitely not a workhorse. I really appreciate everyone's time in the tips. Helped alot. I love Tennessee.

The PF-9 has no safety, nor an internal lock. You can't get the mag to work, so the gun is automatically a piece of crap? Or is it crap because it was an impulse buy?

To remove the base plate, stick a small screwdriver in the hole and push up and forward (towards front of mag) at the same time.

Give it a chance, Kel-Tec makes a good gun. The PF-9 was the original pocket 9mm that just about everyone copied when they designed theirs.

@Broomhead...simply impulse buy...I should have bought a Ruger LCR .357 like I wanted, but wanted to save $150. Not giving up, just got a little frustrated and spooked over the problematic videos I saw on youtube. The more positive comments like yours on the weapon I get, the better I feel...

I owned one and sold it just cause I wanted the Kahr PM9. If I had the cash I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. I would definitely look into the fluff and buff too. It helped mine tremendously Any competent gunsmith will know what you're talking about and shouldn't charge too much at all to do it. If you keep it I'd also reccomend the crimson trace to add to it. Makes it the perfect EDC gun. The little sucker kicks like a mule though!

I'm having issues with my P-3AT, which I have read are standard for the manufacture period. It's bumming me out because I bought it used so I'll probably end up have to dump money into the repairs. I still have and carry a flawless P-11 that is nearly 10 years-old. I'm still positive about the company due to 2 of the 3 guns of theirs I've had being flawless. It's just this dang P-3AT.

I did carry my Dad's PF-9 for about 6mos and it was perfect. Good size, good caliber, flawless performance from the 200rds I put through it. The recoil is snappy as heck though due to the light weight. Let us know if you have anymore issues. There are some smart folks on here.

Where are you located ?

Fluff & Buff is easy to do, especially on the P3AT.

(have 6 Kel-Tecs including P3AT & PF-9)

Nashville. Did a Fluff N Buff once already. I'll try polishing the chamber again before I send it back.

This may be a moot issue for now, I bought a Ruger LCR .357 yesterday, you know, just for the time period between fluffing and buffing or whatever, don't want my HCP to go unused and all.....taking PF-9 to my local dealer who has a GS on site part-time for said buffer fluffer....awful nice of you folks to offer such good info and help an idiot out....

No clue what the trouble is but try again on the KTOG site, it has stickys for common problems and experts on this gun model. You want to look at their fluff & buff section before shooting it (well, probably) -- most users find a little polish in a couple of areas really help this brand/model to work better.

Kel tec has great service, so any problems they will fix. If you cannot fix the mag by hand (take apart, clean it, might be a piece of trash in it from the assembly?) I am sure they will mail you another one.

Ah, should have read the whole thread first... yes the GS will know what to do.

What's it doing? I had FTextract problems with mine initially. Discovered the "frankenbolt" was 1/8 turn from tight. Added a little blue loctite and snugged it down, problem solved. Parts are cheap direct from KT.
