My first AR.

Had this on layaway for the last few months and almost thought I was going to have to let it go because some issues came up in life. Luckily things came together and I was able to get the rest of the money and enough for a few upgrades. I just wanted to get some opinion on how I'm doing with this. It's the Colt Le6920, which I heard from most people was a good start but I'd like some input on that. Also I'd like some input on the upgrades I've made up to this point.. So far I have 5 magpul magazines, a quad rail, a bushnell optic, a streamlight 110 lumen light, and the grip. Overall, just give me your thoughts and anything you think I might need to know as a first time AR owner. Thanks!

Also I ran up on two spam cans of .223 that I couldn't resist.

You have a good gun there. Colt keeps its value if you ever decide to sell it. I like running and extended charging handle latch and a sling plate.

Don't get too worried if your gun won't work with that foreign ammo. Tula is not known for being very good and it chronographs 300 fps slower than any american made ammo. And sometimes that 300 fps can lead to cycling issues. I hope not for your sake because you have a couple of cases. Also, don't expect it to shoot under 4" at 100 yards because it won't. To see what your gun is capable of you need to shoot American ammo.

I had my doubts on the cheap ammo too, but my buddy that was with me at the time encouraged me because it was priced decently. I'd rather have some American ammo though. Problem is, I can't find any in bulk like I found this. I'm sure some of you all know where I can find it though.

nice looking rifle. i am in the same boat, as i just bought my first ar and have not had a chance to take it out.

i went with the m&p sport after dolomite's glowing reviews. need to add some additional mags, but this is my first rifle of any kind and am excited to see how it is.

which bushnell optic did you put on? an optic will be my first addition down the road and i'm looking for something with "high value" (read: relatively inexpensive).

I'm actually not 100% sure which Bushnell it is because my buddy gave it to me. It has two different sight colors though, red and green. Also has backup sights on top of it.

The 6920 is the benchmark to which all other ARs are compared to. I would place the sling on the rail and off of the barrel. Having it on the barrel like that you can torque the sling and move the barrel causing accuracy issues.

My quad rail is polymer. Do you think it would be strong enough to put my sling there?

Thank you. I'm sorry for all the questions. I promise I'll learn soon. :)

that looks great! Customizing is completely up to you so at this point its all opinion!
Thoughts: Magpul Bad Lever, Better trigger, battlecomp or other compensator, quick detaches for connecting your sling (your quad rail might have a spot for one), padding for your sling (or just get a vickers tactical with some padding)! Pelican case with custom cut foam for your AR and favorite handgun, etc...

That's not a free float. The sling is most likely fine where it is. It would take a LOT of force to flex that barrel.

I would probably stick an Omega on it.

You and your expensive taste in DD rails again.......

I kid, I would probably have a DD lite on my pistol build if I could afford it....maybe down the road, but my yhm will do just fine for now.

That DD rail weighs the same as a plastic handguard. I like light rifles.

So my sling won't hurt anything where it is?

Its fine right where it is for your uses right now.  A little unsolicited advice, meant in the best possible way.....  Stop.  Stop buying garbage accessories to decorate your rifle.  You made an excellent choice for your first AR.  Don't ugly it up with cheap trinkets.  Assess what you need, not what looks cool.  When you decide what you need, through research and use, don't skimp on buying.  You will find out with ARs, you pay for what you get.  Think "buy once, cry once."  That money you spent on those things would have been better spent on ammo.

Ammo - buy more of it.  You can never have enough.  Price is going no where but up.  Ammo is one of the better investments you can make with a weapon.  The more you shoot, the more proficient you become.  The more proficient you become, the more knowledgeable and savvy you become with your weapon of choice.  Ammo only helps.

Buy more magazines.  They're ultimately disposable items.  Find a sale on good mags, they're out there.  Never pay more than $14.20.....and you can usually get good mags cheaper.  Stick with a known quality.

Do your research on accessories.  Good things cost more for a reason.  BUT, you can still get fantastic deals on lightly used, quality items if you're patient and looking.
