I had to be part of the Mosin gang

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I picked up a "new" Mosin on Sunday. I'm really stoked about it being my first WWII-type relic. Sure, I'd love to have a Garand but those are a little out of my price range. I think this 1942 Izzy is in really good shape. The bore looks great and it came with all the goodies. It may not matter to everybody, but all the numbers match right down to the buttplate. Curiously though, it isn't a laminated stock. It's just the 2 piece with the dovetail on the bottom piece. Do the stocks get replaced in the refurbishment process? After a little chamfering of the bolt rim, it locks right in and I sent 5 rounds through the yard. Just got done with the quality time with the Hoppes.

Nice one.

Mine's a '43 Izzy, and it's not laminated either-- I prefer the solid wood anyway.

You mention that all the numbers match-- did you happen to check the number on the bayonet as well?  The numbers all match on mine except the bayonet, but "force matching" is quite common, particularly on the buttplate and magazine. The number on my buttplate is original, but the number on my magazine is not-- it was ground off and "re-matched"-- by the armory I suppose. Quite common on these, and I see it more often on the CAI imports like yours (and mine).

Enjoy it-- I wouldn't trade mine for nothin'.

Thanks guys. No my bayonet number is different, but I kinda figured it would be. I'll also have to do some light "polishing" inside it to fit. Don't think I'll be running around much with on any way. Hopefully the next time I shoot it, I'll keep my eyes open.

Getting your first Mil-surp rifle is like eating Lay's potato chips, you just can't stop at one.  My friend Jim had good intentions when he introduced me to my first mil-surp...a Swiss K-11. I really liked it, and had to get one, but at the time I said I didn't ever see myself getting a Mosin Nagant...yeah, that worked out real well. I now own 2 round receiver 91/30s, one hex receiver 91/30, an M44 and a Finnish M39...so much for never getting a Mosin.  :D

Nice looking rifle.

Laminate stocks were strictly post-war.   So don't worry about that, they're ugly anyway.

My laminate stock is not ugly, and its my best shooting Mosin out of 5 ,6 or 7. Lost count. The eye of the beholder and all that rubbish. Love my new to me sniper. Shoots just ok but sure looks the part.
