  1. Thanks. I may definitely call them tomorrow then.
  2. I'm okay with the weight. I checked Double Star and they don't seem to have any barrels on their website but only have a 20" upper with a 1/9. Black Hole only carries 1/8. I looked at White Oak and wow you're not kidding. $200 for the barrel itself in SS and then you have to pay for everything else.
  3. I thought about that as well but the 12.x" quad rail covers the gas hole so I'd have to go with a smaller rail and all of that was just too much of a hassle for measuring so I said 12-13" rail is fine and just a low profile gas block. That way, it's a free float and I won't have to change anything about those two parts. It's just so freaking hard finding a barrel right now. Are there any other good manufacturers out there? I literally only know of RRA which doesn't have a 1/7 standard barrel. PSA which does but they want $250 for the hammer forged, Yankee Hill which is $170 and has almost everything I want, and that's it. I don't know of any other barrel makers. Anyone else? DPMS only has 1/9 (at least listed on their website) Spikes doesn't have anything larger than 16" listed Armalite only has 20" 1/9 twist barrels except for stainless steels which are 1/8. CMMG only has 16" barrels listed on their website Midwest doesn't have any barrels that I can see Stag only has a 1/9 Twist Wilson only makes an 18" American Spirit is 1/9 Bravo Company makes one but it's out of stock and has been for about a month now - http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-20-Rifle-Length-Barrel-Stripped-p/bcm-brl-s-20%20std.htm Core15 is 1/9 Daniel Defense only goes to 18" Del Ton barrels are 1/9 DSA has some 20" 1/7 twist barrels but I've never even heard of this company. They are HBAR http://www.dsarms.com/DSA-ZM4--20-Nitride-Fluted-Barrel/productinfo/DSZM400120FLUTE/ http://www.dsarms.com/DSA-ZM4--20-Nitride-NON-Fluted-Barrel/productinfo/DSZM400120NONFL/
  4. I just want decent accuracy for when I'm shooting but I want a 20" barrel with 1/7 twist. The free float just looks better to me and I don't like those ugly fixed front sights.
  5. I saw it yesterday at the Walmart near East Town Mall. Unfortunately, none of the other Walmarts have it. Definitely a bit high considering you can just buy 21 packs of the Federal American Eagle 20 round boxes for $125.37 before taxes. It would come to $139.07 out the door for that which is still $20 cheaper than the can . At least for target ammo. The only thing I couldn't see from the extremely large counter that was so far away from the shelves was whether it was 223 or 5.56.
  6. I don't know but I'm very interested. Please take pictures when you receive it. What caliber? How many mags? Case? All of those good things I would love to hear. Remember, that the barrels for a new P226 aren't that expensive if that's the only thing that's bad but, as long as it's the same frame as all the other P226's, you can just buy a Caliber X-change kit and get a brand slide with barrel, recoil spring, guide rod and night sights for $280. I'd be very interested in the condition of the frame.

    Outdoor Range

These guys have nailed it. There's the John Sevier Hunter Education Center off of Rifle Range Road. It's only $5.50 for 2 hours of shooting but it's a bench range and they are super strict about those rules. There's the ORSA range in Oak Ridge. I've never been but I keep hearing good things but it's not as cheap as the others. Norris PD seems to be the favorite. It's a bit up the road outside of Knoxville but for $40 a year, it's definitely the best price you can find. Just clean up and you can pretty much shoot however you want. Standing, prone, bench, etc. I still have yet to go to that one either (no rifle yet).
  8. Thanks for the link. I saw them awhile back but never heard of them nor had any experience but I may give them a try. The price is definitely attractive and this rifle will be baby'ed for the longest time.
  9. Okay guys...I'm going to come out and give you my choices right now. Nysos...feel free to reply Turns out, I can get an M&P 15 Sport for $500 before FFL fee new but I don't know much about it. So that's one thing on the table. However, I've also bought myself a couple of Lower Receivers for PSA when they had them on sale for $50. No matter what, I want to build an AR-15 one day but I want to know would it be worth it to buy one for shooting now or just to go ahead with the build. The problem I'm running into right now is that the barrel I want I can't seem to find in stock anywhere and I'm not very knowledgeable on different brands as of yet. I would post on AR15.com but like Sigforum, they for some god awful reason want an email address that's not a free email. Well, that's not going to happen so I'm limited to viewing and not registering. So here we go Things purchased PSA Lower Receiver - $50 PSA Lower Parts Kit with Magpul MOE Grip and Trigger - $55 - I don't know if I'll like the pistol grip or not. Personally, I didn't actually want it but I wanted the trigger guard. Funny story, the trigger guard costs $10 on it's own or I can get it with the MOE Grip for $10. So I figured I'd sell the grip if I didn't like it and buy the Magpul MIAD. I'm not a Magpul only guy but I've only held it and a Stark grip and I liked it better. Magpul CTR with Mil-Spec Buffer Kit - $90 - expensive stock...I liked the look of the MOE but I wanted the sling connector so it was this or the STR and I can't find it yet. Need To Purchase and Needs Lots of Info PSA Upper Receiver - $100 - It's a complete Upper Receiver for $100 so I figured why not PSA blah blah Bolt Carrier Group - $110 it comes with the Charging Handle and is MPI tested and all that jazz...the blah blah is because they name it something weird but their just adjectives Yankee Hill 20" Fluted Threaded Barrel - $170 - and this is my problem. I can't find this barrel in stock anywhere that isn't extremely overpriced and I don't know of any other barrel makers or what other brands are good. I was thinking about one from PSA but they want $250 for it. Well, that's an $80 jump. It is Chrome Lined as well. Yankee Hill Low Profile Gas Block - $25 - I want to use a free float quad rail PSA Rifle Length Gas Tube Quad Rail - This is hard...I'm seriously looking at some expensive stuff here. Why are they so expensive. Are the cheaper ones not as good or something. It seems like it would be pretty standard to have just some metal shaped to picitny rail specs. I don't know what else I'm missing right now except optics. I figured for backups I would get the Magpul MBUS Gen 2 Flip Up Sights and then a Red Dot with Magnifier or an Eotech with 3x Mag. I also don't know what magazines to get so that's another one out there. Am I missing anything and what do you guys think of these parts.
  10. Unfortunately no. I called all of their Distributors looking for one myself but they didn't have any and would have to order.....let me tell you about a 6 month wait. I'm currently right now waiting on my new P226 to come in. 1 month down...5 to go. At least I know when I get it, it will be fresh from the factory and feeling like a champ.
  11. Others have said it The Ammo tax is $0.10 a box and it's standard in B&M shops in TN. The question is because 18 to buy rifle ammunition 21 to buy handgun ammunition. Although one could argue that their rifle uses handgun ammunition but whatever.
  12. I'll have to take pics on Tuesday but I carry a full size P226 in .40 and absolutely love it. I tried my P229 (I love saying that now) but I'd rather have my P226.
  13. lolz...I literally had the exact same thought after reading this
  14. They are but I think they get so overwhelmed with Driver license tests that they just stopped doing HCP's which is silly because an HCP takes quite literally 5 minutes of time to complete including the photo. You literally fill out the application, wait, turn it in and pay $110 and get the form so you can be printed. Then stand in line (again) to take your photo. That being said...if you go to the DMV there, prepare to WAIT at least an hour unless you're one lucky person or you go as soon as they open. I don't know what's up with the amount of people with suspended driver's licenses here in town, but OMG is an understatement for the amount that show up there on a daily basis. Your right about one thing...the Strawberry Plains exit is actually still Knox County and has a zipcode of 37914...Strawberry Plains (the town) is actually about 10 miles from the interstate. I know it's not in Sevier county though so it must be Jefferson County.
  15. DAK, SAO and Striker fired are your most common but DAK isn't really that common as it's proprietary Sig. LEM is proprietary H&K. Striker fired are the ones when you have to rack the slide in order to engage the firing mechanism. (Glock, Smith and Wesson M&P, Sig P250, Springfield XD, and too many others to count) Sig's DAK is a double action only firing system where you can pull the trigger everytime (without racking the slide) to engage the hammer (Comes on most Sig's...I know the P226 and P229 have them. I believe the P220 as well) SAO will give you the same trigger pull but it's like at 1911 in that you can only fire from Single Action so if the hammer is down, you have to manually cock it or rack the slide to get it to cock to fire. LEM I've never actually tried so it would be best to get info from someone else. Now I have a question for you? Have you tried out any guns yet or put any in your hands? What caliber were you wanting?
  16. That's actually all it is. The "Zombie" part is just a marketing gimimik for fun but it's just their normal self defense loads.
  17. So much hate for the 20" barrel..I think someone wants to hug my 20" barrel....
  18. I would honestly love to carry at work but it's a felony for me to carry at work so it's a no go entirely. I can't even have it in the car while the car is on the property. If a person pulls a gun in your face and you feel that he is going to kill you, you should have some way of defending yourself.
  19. Wow...this thread got OT real quick
  20. I used my Sig P226 that I carry for mine but I used my 22LR conversion kit so it only me $1.44 to fire my required 48 rounds vs $17 for a box of .40 FMJ. You do I think 12 shots at 3 yards, 24 shots at 7 yards and then 12 shots at 15 yards and you only need to hit inside the 7 on the full size targets. Funny thing about it, you only need a 70% to pass. So you can actually hit the target and 3 and 5 yards and then miss every shot at 15 yards and still pass.

    Shotgun Newb

I was honestly expecting a comment about going nuts on gun buys but this should be the last gun I buy this year and then nothing for a couple of years as I won't want anything else. Any comment on shotty's? Well the pistol is going to be bought no matter what and so is the shotty. I just want to be sure I get something decent as I don't really know much if any about shotgun brands. I guess I'll stick with a Mossberg or Remington as suggested. Thanks guys.

    Shotgun Newb

Sorry was an attempt at adding humor... What's a good in between then? I do like shooting Skeet sometimes. Would those two do okay for both? What's a decent semi auto?

    Shotgun Newb

Hi again Well, after I finish building my AR-15 (should be done by April or May at the latest only because parts shopping SUCKS), I will only have 2 more guns to buy and then I'm done for awhile. The SP2022 (just waiting on the right sale....speaking of sales...so guess what...in Georgia, the SP2022 is on sale at adventure something or another for $329 until the 21st...yay except they won't sell online or ship to TN so no love for me and I don't know anyone in GA that can get one for me and just ship it to my FFL for me) and a shotgun. So tell me what I need to know about buying a shotgun because I literally have no knowledge beyond that I've shot my friends shotguns a few times and I think he has a Mossberg 12 gauge pump action that holds 5 or 6 cartridges inside it and has a belt strap that holds 4-5 more on the stock. I don't really have a use for it at all beyond just shooting it with friends and keeping it around the house just in case some bad ass robber wants a face full of bird shot followed by rock salt and lastly, a slug . So good brands, models, etc? Max cost I say is about $300 - $400.
