BEING PREPARED AND AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS
wcsc12 replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Everyone keeps saying that but I swear I've never seen one of these signs at all. Granted, I'll keep carrying there until a security doofus asks me to leave so there we go. -
I've never had to draw my gun before but I'm quite happy about that. I'll still have it with me everyday that I am able to carry but I hope I never have to draw it. However, should my life be placed in a position where I see an immediate life threatening action coming at me, I like knowing I can shoot back. I was on the fence about it like you because I have honestly never been put in a situation to where I felt like I needed it. But I think that's the point of your HCP, you get it and you carry so you'll never need it.

OS is right. The actual amount of class time is about 3 hours tops. However, every instructor has to give their own accounts of what they think and blah blah so it takes up more time. The test is different for everyone but we had all the tests done in about 20 minutes in my class. The range portion is actually the longest one as generally they want it structured and they stopped and did a cease fire after every 10 rounds. The rest of the time is taken up by everyone asking questions. Granted, questions should be asked because they are very important but they do take up more time. I bet if it were just you and the instructor, you could probably breeze through it in about 4 hours tops including the range part.

Have you purchased your receiver yet?

I've never had to use it during the day at all but I always have my flashlights on me. I keep one on me at all times and another spare in my car. My CCW gear is just my gun, whichever holster I wear for the day (all IWB), cell phone, keys, and we're ready to go. I've been wanting to get a knife but apparently not bad enough.

Bingo! However, our Postal Inspectors are extremely laxed around here. They have more internal matters to deal with rather than external so a lot of things slide by. There's lots of cops who stop by the Weisgarber post office in the morning to check their PO boxes in uniform and armed and they don't really care that they are breaking the law and neither do the ones who are supposed to enforce it.

Road Rage involving Oak Ridge officers in Knoxville
wcsc12 replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Ah see I only have experience in Knox County and I missed the first date and rescheduled and made the 2nd and it was no big deal. It was just I didn't put it on the calendar and it's rather hard to remember a date 2 months out. -

Wow. I've only had one law infringing interaction with ORPD and it was a ticket for speeding. The guy was nice enough to tell me that he'd let me out of it if I showed up for court but I overslept and missed it and when I called to reschedule the court date, I was informed (btw...please remember this statement in case you ever get a ticket in OR) that I had until 4:30pm to pay the ticket or they'd put a warrant out for my arrest because if you're not there in court, the judge automatically finds in their favor since there's no contestant. Well, by god, I drove to OR to pay that bloody ticket that day. -
Yes and no. Technically speaking, we should respect their company policy but it has no legal weight of the law. However, if we are carrying and they advise us of their policy and ask us to leave, we have to do so or we'll be trespassing. Off Topic....GOOOD morning Nysos....wanna go plinking Tuesday or Wednesday?

Simon malls are weird. They aren't posted but it's up to whatever rent a cop mall security officer sees that your carrying and says something to you. I believe (it may have changed) that their company policy is to allow no firearms in the mall however, none of them are posted. Also, none of the stores (at either West or East) are posted. You can walk into JCP and they aren't posted and then walk into the mall which isn't posted either and I've not even seen a sign at a Simon mall that says no guns so who knows. I carry there all the time because no one has told me not to carry there. However, I do carry concealed and not openly so that's one thing to consider. As far as the empty holsters go. I think it would go farther to just contact them privately rather than walk in with an empty holster but that's just my opinion. I understand the gesture but I would rather convey my feelings directly to the owner/manager in the hopes that my business and the business of other legal gun carriers means that much to them. If not, oh well, there's other shops around somewhere .

Road Rage involving Oak Ridge officers in Knoxville
wcsc12 replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Has anyone else noticed that this guy apparently got the greatest look at their gun in the world from it being pointed at him. Not only did he know it was a Glock but he knew it was a .40 Glock. I hope that one day I can not only the brand but the caliber of the gun by just having it being pointed at me. -

Carry and accident, what happened?
wcsc12 replied to zenman's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
By god...this man speaks the truth! Seriously though...knowing that you at least don't have to spend another $8 on top of everything else should help SD Ammo is expensive....$1+ per bullet on most and 12+1 = $13 plus tax.... -

With or without your expensive bullets though? -
I don't know anyone specifically but I know that a guy named "Sam" who who will be in Nashville on December 16-18 will be selling them for $7 a can. I'm still waiting for him to come to Knoxville but he never seems to go further east than Nashville. Always West TN..... ARMSLIST - For Sale: Ammo Cans

Well, since you missed Black Friday...you could have gotten B1G1 half off at Dick's on 250 round packs of Remington UMC and if you were savy enough (and mostly had a store that would price match) they would match Walmart for $77 and some change and you could have gotten 500 rounds for $120 + tax and $0.20 ammo tax. But that was only for .40 and that deal has passed so...it's pretty much a waiting game to see who will put ammo on sale. You can find it online but realistically, you'd be better off just buying at Walmart after you include shipping costs. My 2 cents is that I buy all my target ammo at Walmart or while it's B1G1 half off at Dick's and then buy all my self defense ammo online.

The absolute best dog trainer for your dog is yourself. All you really need to do is associate any action of messing with the Donkey's with something worse for him. If you really want a dog trainer, you'll probably have to hire someone to come out to your place to observe the habit and figure out the best way to curb it. I'm not near you but I know Petsafe here in Knoxville has a trainer on staff that's AMAZING. I bumped into him and just had a conversation with this guy and from this conversation, I trained my puppy and she was amazing.

I unload everytime but that's just what I what I was told to do my by father. He said it's the best way to preserve your magazine's springs. So when I put the gun down for the night, the magazine gets unloaded and the bullets go back into the box. Once I get ready to go out the next day, it gets reloaded.

Magazine Loading -- First Round FMJ Followed by JHP?
wcsc12 replied to xRUSTYx's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I wouldn't Rusty just simply because a FMJ round is more likely to penetrate your target and go through them than a JHP. Remember that you are responsible for EVERY ROUND FIRED. So if one goes through the bad guy and hits little suzy in the chest, guess who's in trouble. -
Crossbreed, Mssouri Gunleather, iwb holsters
wcsc12 replied to HOLEPUNCHER's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
NP Unfortunately, the only way to prevent holster wear is to not use a holster. Sounds kind of silly though when you say it though. However, refinishing services are only like $100 or so lolz. -
Have the looks of the HCP changed?
wcsc12 replied to BlackHawk93's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yuppers. They changed awhile back. When they started issuing out the new driver's licenses, they switched the HCP to the same. If you look at the new HCP's in just the right light, you can see the crap ton of holograms they added onto it as well. -
Welcome The more K-Towner's the better I always say What guns do you have?

wcsc12 replied to HOLEPUNCHER's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Well, as far as wear goes, it wears different on both sides of the firearm. The part that's on the leather gets a more consistent wear but it wears the whole side vs the side with the Kydex only gets wear on the contact points made with the Kydex. That being said, it will wear your gun and it will be noticeable if you really look at your gun.
