1. Took my grandson opening day and he shot a nice fat spike, his first and a early birthday present,he turned 10 wed :pleased:
2. 6mm 243 or 25/06 any and all will do what you want without breaking the bank or shoulder
3. Bowhunter163 is a good guy, long ways for me to travel to hunt as much ot as I work, besides I bet they have big owl's there too lol
4. Tn WMA hunt draws were released this morning, got oakridge 2nd gun hunt
5. 2 weeks at least to get some birds staying in the area, a plowed field will bring in all kinds of birds. with season opening on a tuesday it might be a low hunter day. my son and I and at least 1 buddy will be out there,
6. Well its a 2 buck limit for at least the next 5 years. button bucks look out lol ,also unit L hunters got 5 days added to their doe killing after the rest of us have to stop hunting :puke:
7. e Anderson county, the norris range could be a possibility as its not too far out. food well thats possible also
8. we have tried going to a few wma's but a lot of local hunters have not been helpful and have read of trucks getting torn up  so im about thru trying to hunt out of this area. Time will tell if changes help any body or not.
9. spoken like a unit L hunter lol, we have few deer here and the buck limit dosent affect the herd #s much, taking more doe here would hurt. we have a lot of hunters here that dont kill a buck for 1 reason or another and if they up the doe killing the buck sightings will drop to record lows imo,
10. Its been proven that rack restrictions hurt the the young bucks with potental, theres also not enuf doe's in order to validate a kill of 1 before a buck in the east end of the state. In this computer age i could kill a doe at day lite ck it in on my phone while I stood there looking at a buck I just shot.30 minutes latter ck the buck in. not a good idea as it cant be enforced.  Im just a deer hunter but would like to shoot a monster but I know with out a doubt that very few bucks will make it to 3.5+ years of age. When you have a large group that dont kill a buck every year they may get a chance at 1,the folks that loose are the ones with the private property that holds deer year round that they spend $ on. I dont see me changing my hunting other than may county hop to kill doe's during the county doe hunts. I try to not kill limits of doe's at any 1 location to keep the #s up but may rethink this pratice .Trophyism isnt what hunting is for me and the shows and magazines that portray such  just dont happen every day in every part of the state..
11. Sounds like they will drop the buck limit to 2 as some folks think it will put a buck behind every tree, It might help some bad hunters kill 1 but who knows. Seems most of the folks wanting change live in area's with a good limit of doe's are possible with some type of rifle, here in the east chances are limited . reckon I may start fishing more
12. I got my renewal back recently and it is for 4 years, it isnt linked to my lic expiration date or my birth day.
13. not me,you have to have a certain amount of salt/water to make it safe and then fridge temps to keep it good long enuf for the brine to penatrate .
14. the 243 has a ton of choices on bullets from deer to varmits. its 1 of the most accurate caliburs that can take 55g-105g bullets .winchester markets a 55g pushing 3910fps or so. 223 cant hang with it but ammo is cheaper. 44 mag under 100y is a good deer round from a rifle. low recoil offers fast follow up shot with the 243. fixed power works very well in thick area's. have fun and good luck picking just 1 rifle to do any thing :)
15. I see bows and guns being sold after season closes or gun opens, it may be folks trying different caliburs out and deciding they dont care for them. I have killed a lot of deer with my 243 but have passed it to my son. I have had a winchester 300wm for about 10 years and use it when I have a chance to hunt big fields. My prefered is my savage 50 cal muzzle loader. I have a hankering for a 308 for some reason and never having owned 1 might start looking. I dont sell guns but also dont buy many and they are hunting guns not collector grade. folks buy stuff on credit cards then have to pay them off at some point and time, they loose somebody else wins
16. Its a done deal ,the new prices dont kick in til june or july so buy early then the increase wont bother you for next season
17. Wild Hog Control For Landowners Landowners have more opportunity than ever before to control wild hogs on their properties. They can shoot wild hogs year-round during the day without limit and trap with bait outside of big game seasons. Furthermore, landowners may obtain an exemption from their TWRA regional office enabling them to kill wild hogs at night using a spotlight, and to trap year-round. In addition, landowners in a four-county (Fentress, Cumberland, Pickett, and Overton) experimental area may use dogs as a wild hog control method.  Family members and tenants that qualify under the Farmland Owner License Exemption and up to ten additional designees may help private landowners with wild hog control efforts. For properties over 1000 acres, an additional designee per 100 acres may be assigned.   No licensing requirements exist for landowners or their designees.  In order to renew each year, exemption holders are required to report the number of hogs killed on their property and the manner in which they were killed to TWRA.  Landowners may also take advantage of technical assistance provided by TWRA to help with a trapping program or additional wild hog control techniques. I dont see that you can run a hog hunting operation in Tn with rules like this without it being fenced in, the names have to be turned in to twra before the hunt and i dont think they allow you to change it weekly but who knows,
18. so is this a fenced preserve your hunting hogs on ?
19. Looks like some very basic weapons handling training is needed to me,
20. im not looking forward to it,i run the roads doing service and may be stuck in the middle of it,wished they would stay away got no use for them
21. better ck the rules on hogs before you go. rules sure aint like they use to be.
22. it dosent have to be a farm just that you own it and you live in Tn. you will need to print a landowner exemption form from twra and i think it asks for property info
23. Dang I wished I had remembered you were wanting feet, killed a doe on the oakridge hunt and she had some piebald in her and had white patches on the front above the hoofs
24. If baiting didn't draw deer folks would stop doing it. I have seen a lot of pictures of deer killed over bait and yes acorns will some times slow down the deer from hitting the corn . I have no interest of being in a baiting war with any one . I also have no interest of seeing Tn get crazy prices just to deer hunt. folks complain about lic prices but with out being able to hunt somewhere cheaply the lic cost doesn't matter as much in the end. folks are asking $10+ per acre for hunting property's and are getting it. I refuse to be like other states in regard to trophy deer only. im a deer hunter and take what is legal and offered. corn fed deer is better im sure but id rather they knocked the stalk down to get it :)
25. The fishing lic $ isn't part of the hunting $ for legal reasons. federal $ is given for fishing programs ect and cant be combined with other funds. I support the raise even though it will cost my son and his wife more. I got the grand kids their lifetime and I also have mine.for the cost of a pack of cigarettes the fishing and small game lic is hardly a huge increase imo and $30 some odd dollars spread into 365 days is still $ well spent if your a outdoors type. a 6 pack of top notch beer is upwards of $10  and how many folks complain about that cost. id bet this raise will cover another 10 years but guys life costs more every day and entertainment in any form isn't a necessity. Its all about choices and im in a win win deal here. Fewer hunters in the  woods or fishermen on the water means a better chance to harvest my limit  :) . In all studies I have seen the # of hunters has decreased which shifts the weight to fewer folks. we need more game wardens but with out $ for salary's it wont happen. they are looking to charge WMA users like horse rides bicycles hikers ect but when you start taking $ from them you open up their rights for time/services = $ /time taken from hunters ect.  15 years ago before I quit smoking it was $10-$15 a carton. Now I think I seen signs for over $50 . Can you imagine if lic went up the same % ? . I have to look at both sides here to be fair and don't see it as price gouging as much as it is insurance to insure the future of Tn sportsmen having a place to enjoy our state
