1. Thanks to the ban scare i now have a stag lower.  I like it!  The magwell isn't too tight, unlike my older dpms, and the parts went in without a problem (other than me scuffing up lower in a few parts from the hammer).  If you can get over the ugly deer, they are worth having! Heck, with the ban scare, any ar is worth having.
2. i use a 24" dehumidifier rod and it has been working fine.  For the install I routed the wire through the anchor holes in the bottom of the safe. Ditto on my bad experience with damprid (doesn't work that well) and evadry solutions (doesn't work that well plus i knocked one down and it broke open and sent beads all over the place).  Make sure your safe comes with some sort of a lighting setup.  Most safes also come with a door organizer for pistols and some even have a rifle setup on the door.
3. my next ar will have troy Battle Microsight set with tritium inserts in HK fashion. they are expensive, but i fell in love with them.
4. For my precision 308 build I went with Lilja.  They also make ar-10 barrels in 308 winchester and 260 remington in 18", 20", and 24".  Price for drop-in barrels is around $460 or $570 fluted. http://www.riflebarrels.com/products/ar_10.htm   It takes them four months to make barrels so it looks like that would work out perfectly.  Normally you pay before it ships.
5. to the OP, just tell him to go through a FFL in "his" current state to do the transfer and "he" will be fine.  If you do some sort of illegal transaction, find a cop to run the serial to make sure its not stolen (hopefully before you buy it).  The cop will need the make/model/serial/color for an accurate check.  Remember, if it is stolen, it will be confiscated and returned to the original complainant of the stolen item report and your friend will be out of a gun and money.   here are some sections to read up on: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/unlicensed-persons.html#gca-unlicensed-transfer   As TMF mentioned though: what is considered his "resident" state if he is military...
6. best trigger pull depends on what you are looking for.  If its weight, pre-travel, and grittiness then get a Geissele single stage trigger such as the super 3 gun (finding one in stock is hard plus its around $240).  If you want a two stage trigger get the Geissele SSA-E ($215).  Other ideas are Jewell two stage triggers ($214) that you can adjust from 1lb to 7lbs.  Most people will tell you to stay at 4lbs or higher.  LEO/Military use stock weights 5.5-7lbs.   If you just want to get rid of the pre-travel and grittiness while keeping a "personal defense" weight (6+ lbs) then look into the ALG Combat Trigger ($65).  I you don't have a lot of cash you can get this trigger along with some "competition springs" for it to be lighter as well.  Most people have been happy with this setup versus the expensive cost of a S3G (super 3 gun) or SSA-E (Super Semi-Automatic Enhanced) triggers, but others have said you can do the same thing to your current trigger if you know what you are doing (polishing job).   Also, before you start spending cash find a gunsmith to do a trigger job on your current trigger.  Don't try it yourself, and don't let your buddy watch youtube videos and try it with his dremel.  The last thing you need is for your gun to go full-auto at the gun range.
7. just try to use 55grain or more for ammo. Most people like to use military 62grain green tip ammo because of the price, but they are out of stock everywhere. https://www.primaryarms.com/Federal_XM855LC_5_56x45mm_62gr_Green_Tip_420_RD_p/xm855lc1ac1.htm http://www.brownells.com/ammunition/rifle-ammo/5-56mm-xm855-rifle-ammunition-ammo-can-prod44665.aspx   I normally shoot PMC Bronze due to the price. It normally sells around $7 or cheaper if you buy in bulk.
8. that looks great! Customizing is completely up to you so at this point its all opinion! Thoughts: Magpul Bad Lever, Better trigger, battlecomp or other compensator, quick detaches for connecting your sling (your quad rail might have a spot for one), padding for your sling (or just get a vickers tactical with some padding)! Pelican case with custom cut foam for your AR and favorite handgun, etc... http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG980/100 http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Geissele-AR15-Super-3-Gun-Trigger-p/geissele%20s3g%20trigger%20spin.htm http://battlecomp.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=42 http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/MI-Heavy-Duty-Flush-Button-Swivel-p/mi-hdfs.htm http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BlueForce-GeAR-Vickers-AA-Combat-Application-Sling-p/vcas-200%20aa-bk.htm
9. i believe someone said the msrp is around $2200. Anyone still willing to pay $2200 for this DI gun? It's not that awesome imho and you can build less for a ton cheaper, not to mention that gunrunner has some MidTNGunsmithing ar's that i like more in the classifieds section for a ton less. EDIT now that i found the exact price
[background=rgb(237, 239, 244)]MSRP is $2145. Each Carbine includes a $200 training certificate, good for any HSP class.[/background]
10. i have shot one vector. It was the normal carbine and the only way to describe it was that it "felt different". I would find someone's to shoot before you buy one since i was on the fence whether i liked it or not. They are priced around $1670 with msrp around $1895. The H&K USC's can be found as cheap as $1569 with msrp around $1883. The vector has 30 round mags that are made from extending glock mags. The USC has 10 round and aftermarket 20 round mags. There are other mags if you do the conversion to ump. The conversion to UMP is around 2-3k and imho isn't worth it, but they have 25 round mags after conversion. Cheaper guns include the Beretta Storm CX4 and the Thompson.
11. yeah! they have a flush look to them since nothing sticks out. they are very nice compared to other rings.
12. the usc is honestly the way to go for .45. If not, the vector costs more but is also a good investment due to its recoil mitigation. The vector uses glock magazines so it is a good choice if you already have .45 caliber glocks.
13. unfortunately you have to sandblast the duracoat off. which also means you need to completely disassemble the gun. If you don't know what you are doing you can sandblast part of your gun off so i recommend you take it to a gunsmith or refinisher/cerakoter etc. Some people will tell you that you can use paint stripper. While that may work for one coat of duracoat, multiple layers (which is what camo is) are pretty much immune so bathing it in paint stripper won't work. You will have to sandblast what's there off and you might as well pay one person to do both. GunRunner did my last "fix it" job, where some shop in West Memphis AR that I wont name (let's just say he used to be a sponsor) painted my gun like it was a nintendo wii and he put so many layers it wouldn't assemble (not to mention he forgot to take the firing pin out so he painted it in place). GunRunner not only fixed the dang thing, but he gave it the freaking best paint job ever. I went ahead and replaced a few parts rather than trying to fix them such as the firing pin which had to be hammered out. he fixed and recerakoted the top handgun in sniper gray (which has a black/blueish look to it). The handles are VZ grips in gray/black. When you look at it, just remember I couldn't assemble this handgun because of how many layers of duracoat someone else put on it (It was almost bound for the trashcan!)! I think that was the first time you saw this grown man cry. I always recommend you go with cerakote, and black is the most popular choice for black evil rifles. Colors will be the same price so why not build one in black/fde? Everything is up to you but try to make it look a little classy! 14. i thought the tacticool 30-30 was sexy! j/k. I don't know if i would go hunting with someone using that
15. thanks, it was done in two colors to give the flutes create a shadow effect. Cerakote FDE and Patriot Brown on the flutes. The bolt, since it was on the inside, was painted in Patriot brown and the handle in FDE.
16. I don't have the courage to get build one, but I might eventually get a FN Scar-H in 308. Money is the only thing stopping me, and other projects that i "need" first.
17. 18. beautiful gun! My custom 308 comes soon and I too don't have a scope yet for it. On these expensive builds it cost too much to put so much money into a rifle and scope at the same time. Now that's a sweet gun!
19. I switched out to the spikes tactical t-2. it is considered a h2.5 buffer. I had convinced myself it was helping with the recoil but i could be crazy. I didn't have any cycling problems with a mid-length system running a battle comp 1.5. maybe you should look at getting a battle comp or the spikes tactical dynacomp extreme (if you don't care about muzzle flash). You forgot to include your build specs and pictures, unless i missed your other post?
20. You should give one of them to me! I was planning on buying a colt in january (the 6940p though). I actually haven't gone into "collecting", maybe its because i like shooting all my guns too much. Did you ever fire the guns or were they just for the safe? Pics? Hopefully someone here will know what an old sp1 is worth, but condition is most of the price too...
21. congrats on the new gun. Magpul got me hooked on the M&P series, and if it wasn't for a friend buying the gun i wanted (M&P .40), I would have gotten one. That's the last time i tell my friends what i am getting before i get it! I still want a M&P in 9mm.
22. i have only shot at night with both. During night quals i would sometimes leave my light off and use the light from the shooters around me. I wasn't paying attention if my sights were glowing, but whatever they were doing worked fine for sight alignment. Also, the first three shots are in darkness at close range and I can tell you the "flash" does not affect your other shots. I will say my only advice is to make sure you can see whatever it is you are shooting at which means using a weapon light if needed. Sometimes flipping a light switch in your house is a good idea since it doesn't let anyone know exactly where you are at, where a weapon light can be traced back to the source. I bought a strobe weapon light to help with this problem, but i honestly don't use it too much since it annoys me too much.
23. there are several online in the 650-670 price range. The finish on the guns are reported to be pretty bad compared to duracoat/cerakote. I am a cerakote fan myself. I personally would take normal TFO sights as I would see all six dots on the VT Sights and it would drive me crazy. If it were me I would get a normal M&P and then use the saved cash for an apex kit or cerakoting the gun if you wanted it to be fde.
24. did you look at the colt 6920? There is a magpul version that is really nice. My next ar will be a Colt 6940p I just need to finish my precision rifle build (pics soon). I wouldn't worry too much about twist ratios, but just check the barrel as it should be stamped on it (it may be hidden under the handguards, so in that case you wouldn't be able to see it). I like sigs but i haven't heard too many things about the m400, but it is priced in the lower market of their ar's which is a new thing for Sig. Are you sure you don't want to save up for the Sig 516 or Sig 552 or the colt 6920?
25. For an ar15 model the Smith and Wesson is the way to go. They are pretty cheap and reliable. The sig 522 is also highly recommended and I have the swat commando version that I picked up off these forums. It's reliable as well but more expensive. The rail system was also cheaply made but that's expected on a cheaper 22 plinker. The stock folds which makes most people want to go to town with it and I believe it uses the same mags as the Smith and Wesson. The mock suppressor also adds a tacticool look.
