It's incredible stuff...

CDNN had police trade-ins and used specimens for a while for under $400... they might still, I don't look for Glocks much when I look at their inventory. And, I invariably see a handful of the mid-size Glocks for sale at gun-shows in the mid-$400 range. New, I'd expect somewhere around $500... up to $550 with night-sights, perhaps.

I Like the LDA trigger... very smooth. But, I don't care for double-stack 1911s, like the Tac-4. If I got one, it would be a single-stack. I hear those have fewer problems, anyways.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ +1 to dry-firing. If controlling the trigger-pull is the issue (which it seems to be), the above advice will make a difference. And, I'd like to add, that getting/renting a .22lr pistol will help you concentrate on your trigger-pull/sight-alignment without developing a flinch.

I couldn't have lived this long in this sexy body without learning to enjoy the occasional humor at my expense... -

I had about enough of Doogie staring back at me... Changed back to Dr. Strangelove. -
I'd trade the Beretta before I would the 1911... personally. But you're well served to practice with the guns you already have, that is what will make a difference. Equipment is only part of the equation.

All it took was a 5-second Google search... I didn't scan it. But, I can blow up a poster-sized version for anybody who wants to hang it on their wall -
What are you going to use it for? The only advantages of the XD-9 over a 1911 are weight, magazine capacity, and... hmm... that's about it. The 1911 is slimmer, more accurate (though it should be mentioned that GI sights suck), and utilizes a harder-hitting cartridge (though there is always the XD-45...). If you don't like the 1911, and you do like the XD, go for it... noone would judge you for choosing a platform which works better for you. Plus, 9mm is cheaper to shoot. You might find that the XD is easier to carry, but, it is a much thicker gun... harder to conceal because of the fatter grip. I prefer to carry an XD simply because I can run it very well due to lots of practice (11K+ rounds through the various XDs which I've owned)... I carried a 1911 for a while, and would again, but my personal preference is towards the lighter, higher-capacity package without a manual safety. And, the ergonomics are just right. Let personal preference be your deciding factor... though, I would urge you to spend your time deciding, shooting as many XDs as you can. The best solution would be to save up and buy the XD without selling/trading the 1911.

Heh... my new 'look' is the result of a comment about one of the pictures of me from the most recent East TN TGO meetup. I'll change it before too long... but it was worth a laugh to go along Nobody ticked off at me that I am aware of (or give a flying %$#! about)... -

I've been discovered...! -
It appears to be a Beretta 92/96. People like that aren't likely to hit anything vital, if shot in the head.
-
I've ordered some misc stuff, and ammo from cheaper than dirt... I've never had a problem, but I have heard complaints about their customer service, nothing I'd worry too much about. I'd order from them again.
-
I'll trade you for my Sig P239... I'll even throw in a box of ammo.

I am officially coming tomorrow. I just need some general directions... I'll be bringing 5-6 guns. -
Instructions? Never heard of 'em...
-
I was hoping to try making it to Oak Ridge tomorrow... but if I can't do that, and my buddy doesn't need me at the track either, I might swing by the show. I'll call you if I do.

BTDT... Helping a buddy retrofit a '64 Impala SS with a Muncie 4-spd (originally a Powerglide car), got everything together, pedals mounted, new console, clutch bracket welded in-place... Went to turn the key... nothing. We spent hours tracing it down, found that we'd forgotten to hook the neutral-safety-switch from the auto-shifter up to the switch on the clutch...

Beautiful... 3 absolutes of freedom in harmony.

Unions are not what they used to be, the use for which they may have once been necessary is no longer relevant. I am in direct contact with unionized workers every day, their usage of such an organization only results in the work they perform to be inefficient, time-wise and cost-wise. The unions themselves profit from driving a wedge between management and labor... (making illegal workers more appealing). Since when is a business owner subordinate to the majority will of their employees? It's his/her business or property to run as they please! Noone forces anyone to work anywhere, in this country, and the owner of the business should have the power to say 'no' to his/her employees, just like a business/property owner has the right to make a person carrying a gun leave the premises if they choose... should an owner not have ultimate authority (within the law, of course), over their own enterprise and investment?
-
Unions are good for one thing: Keeping companies from compensating workers based on what their skills and time are actually worth. Wal-Mart may be alot of other things, but they are profitable... and that's partially due to hiring workers who's skill-sets are below average, and paying them accordingly. Wal-Mart doesn't force anyone to work for them. And China, doesn't need unions... it needs a revolution. In light of the situation in that country, people who complain about raising the minimum wage meanwhile Chinese Christian slaves and children (with arguably more skill) make our fireworks, shoes, toys, and toothbrushes for nothing... And then pay bottom dollar for them back at Wal-Mart, at our convenience. Pity is not a good reason to pay someone more for a product or service... as long as they have the choice of doing business for that price, or not, the market decides. Chinese slave labor, Illegal immigrants AND unions are the monkey-wrenches in our economy.

The top 1% income earners pay a bit over 1/3 of the taxes The top 5% income earners pay over half of the taxes the top 50% income earners pay 96% of the taxes Yeah, it's ridiculous... btw, The median income per household is $46K, and 17% of households make more than $100K per year. Fewer than 13% of households fall below the poverty threshhold. (stats from the US Census Bureau, and Office of Tax Analysis, for 2005)
