Browning Buck-Mark or S&W 41. I have yet to see one which didn't perform flawlessly. The Ruger is a solid choice, as well, as a lower cost... so is the S&W 22A and Beretta 87. I'd steer clear of the Beretta Neos and Sig Mosquito, having seen and heard of numerous reliability & QC issues. The Walther P22 seems to be well-liked, but I don't have much experience with those.

Good to meet you folks as well!

Oh, I had my days mixed up. I'll be working until 7 or 8 on Sat, as well... I wouldn't be able to make that either. I'm sorry

I guess I'm thinking more of a situation where I am in a location where I cannot carry a firearm, if I am in a very crowded area, or otherwise do not have a safe back-stop. I could also see the benefit in having the option in the event of some drunk trying to pick a fight, and being able to stop him without getting into a brawl or having to potentially kill him.

X-Treme OC: You Got The Cujones??
molonlabetn replied to The Rabbi's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I agree that there is no specific legal distinction between 'conventional' and 'unconventional' (which is the crux of the 'assault weapon' argument, as well)... but my reference was to the likely perception of it by some LEOs (being uninformed). Depending on the opinion of the individual officer (as in your acquaintance's case), it may be a non-issue, or it may require the hassle of justification. It shouldn't, but one would be naive to assume that it wouldn't draw attention... Same issue as any kind of OC, really, just more high-profile. I would carry that way, given a circumstance which would make it reasonable (but, you knew that), such as hiking in the territory of dangerous predators, for example... but it's not practical for my specific needs and activities (on weekdays anyways ). It would also be an interesting form of activism, however, OCing that way... I think that I might need to get a Krinkov pistol in 5.45x39, or perhaps a MAC-10, for just such an opportunity! -
My thoughts on this are: OC/Pepper spray - short range, and the face might be difficult to hit... spraying their body/clothes will have little effect. The fog types can be counterproductive, as well. Taser - one shot... not much use in the case of multiple attackers or ineffective hit. Stun-gun - Getting warmer... gotta be close though, I don't like that idea... If I gotta be close, I am positive that my fist is going to hit harder. Baton - Would probably be my first (uneducated) choice... the need for certification is a question in my mind, as well. Honestly... If I were to buy something right now, it would be a stun-baton, a combination of the 2 which seem to be both effective and quickly repeatable.

X-Treme OC: You Got The Cujones??
molonlabetn replied to The Rabbi's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I have no doubt that carrying like that would draw the ire of local LE in some (most) jurisdictions... possibly resulting in arrest in-lieu of a court decision on the legality of carrying a non-conventional 'pistol' (as ETS spoke about). At least, I would expect a lengthy conversation with an officer (or three). The only legal ramifications result from the ambiguity over the types of pistols covered by the HCP codes. If a situation one was presented with made carrying a weapon of that nature practical... I expect that the authorities would be the least of the problems they might encounter! -
I'm sure there are many folks on here who carry, and/or are very familiar with the different types of self-defense tools which are more appropriate for encounters in which deadly-force is not justified or possible... What advice do you have in choosing? I currently don't carry any intermediate SD tools other than my ability to reason, my fists, and a decent pocket-knife (which wouldn't be my first resort unless it's all I had)... This is a question I've long pondered. OC/Pepper-spray Baton/ASP Taser Stun-Gun Other???

I've never heard of any restriction on the quantity of OC one may possess or carry...

I had one of those, too, when I was going to ETSU...

What can we do to improve the site?
molonlabetn replied to TGO David's topic in Feedback and Support
I think that compiling some more entries for the FAQ section, comprising of common Firearms-related questions, and good answers which we agree upon, would be a nice feature. Perhaps re-evaluate the Chat system... does anyone use it? -
Slushee Question for August: Manual Safety or No?
molonlabetn replied to dcloudy777's topic in Handguns
Yes. Some DA-to-SA transitions are vary widely... Beretta and Sig seem to have some of the best, but there are a number of TDA pistols which have a very long, hard, or rough DA pull and then very light SA-pull... enough of a difference to cause a flyer or un-intended double, under stress. -
I wonder if my wife would like an M1 Carbine... <ponders>
-
It appears to be a heavy-profile, but not quite a bull-barrel. It has some taper.

My wife is getting printed (finally) next week... Soon she'll be able to pack that pretty 1911, pink grips and all.

Colt is still very much in the business of assembling the AR platform... most of their raw parts are sourced from vendors such as LMT, however. But, Colt still has the gov't contract on the M4, and they make new AR15s every day for the private and LE sectors as well. FN (Belgium) has the contract for the M16A4. When you buy a Colt, you are primarily buying brand recognition... but some of the features they include are premium, such as hardened feed-ramps, etc.

Yeah, taking a month off probably killed it. After missing the last one, and not being able to go to this on, I probably won't go again unless I hear some positive things. -

I'm pulling a late night tonight, can't make it... If anybody goes, let us know what transpired. -
They need to polymerize it with lead, and create lighter-weight radiation suits...
