Worried about all the senseless killing
molonlabetn replied to dralarms's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Good post JayPee, There are 2 camps, it seems, who are at odds with the solution to the problem. One wants to ban all guns or regulate them into oblivion, the other wants to equalize the ability for everyone to meet force with force, and only punish those who misuse them. The comparison is similar to, hypothetically, if fast cars were used in a growing speeding problem... one group wants to take away everybody's cars or regulate them into oblivion (only cops should have fast cars...etc...), the other wants to simply punish people who misuse them and reward those who don't. The common theme is that one camp focuses on the object, the other upon the person. Simply asking the question which of the two has the free will to decide whether to do evil provides the answer to which side's path towards deterrence makes any sense. -

I don't know who all has access to add tags... the tag edit line shows up right above the Quick Reply box for me. I should probably fill in more tags, but I need to find a way to change the number of hours in a day from 24 to like 30, first. -

I can't and don't.

There isn't a religion on the planet which hasn't been at least slightly warped by human perspective... the important thing is to be true to what you believe. And I do carry to church, yes.

Very Funny...

A couple of the recent movies I've watched from NetFlix were: Last Man Standing (long time favorite) Kingdom of Heaven (in my top ten, despite Orlando Bloom) Transformers (of course... I grew up to the cartoon) The Great Raid (powerful and well written/acted) Aliens Quadrilogy (#2 is the only good one) Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man (one of my favorite Micky Rourke movies next to Sin City) The Jackal (long time favorite) Heat (very entertaining, great cast and action scenes) Ronin (long time favorite, great chase scene) Army of Darkness (gotta love a good Bruce Campbell b-movie every so often) Cold Mountain (surprisingly good...) Heartbreak Ridge (Clint plays another conflicted badass... good though) Death Wish (warm up for watching The Brave One)

Who else ignores signs and carries anyway?
molonlabetn replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Thread has been closed. Even though this is commonly implied in other discussions, I cannot in good concience leave this forum open to the potential for giving the other side more ammunition by having a direct topic about breaking a law (as dumb as that law may be). In keeping with the forum rules, such threads will not be allowed to run their course. -
Who else ignores signs and carries anyway?

I don't ignore legal signs, of course. I consider them very carefully... as I think everyone should. -
Some allen wrenches, a punch, mallet, fine file, screwdrivers, pick, pliars... I'm sure several other things, too, that are all in my toolbox or workbench.

The last movie I went to the theatre to see (drive-in, actually) was Jumper. I hated it. Alot. Before that, I think the last ones I saw were I Am Legend and AVP Requiem, which were both decent... I'd watch them again. I haven't had a chance to go see many of the movies I've really wanted to... such as Rambo. I saw this one, too... and agree, I thought the first 2/3 of the movie was well done, but the ending could have been improved.

Why would anybody drench a guitar in that much solvent? One would be hard-pressed to find anything that wouldn't gum up the works if used like that and then let sit...

My take on them is mixed... I shot one a bit over a year ago now, and thought it was insanely fun. The perception I got from the recoil was snappy and light... after watching some videos of the pistol in action, there is significant muzzle-rise, but it is perceived less to the shooter, I think, because it returns so rapidly. The muzzle blast is impressive, but overall the gun is very controllable, moreso than any 9mm pistol of the same weight. I think the gun is bulky, even though it's light... and I personally don't care for the location of the safety. If I had to carry the pistol, I'd probably not bother using it. The profile and the sights and the shape of the grip were the source of a few complaints, as well. As to the chambering... 5.7x28mm has very limited practicality for private SD purposes, even if the restricted ammo were very accessible. I'd like to see some other commercial (or specialty) ammunition manufacturers start loading this cartridge... perhaps with a FMJ 40-45gr bullet to alleviate the dismal penetration of the current offerings which tend to fragment or simply stop within 4"-8" of gel. Even the SS190 and 192 loads barely manage 10" out of the P90. But for AP usage it's an attractive solution, if needed. FN makes firearms of excellent quality, I would have no qualms about owning one of their pistols if its capabilities met my needs. I've got my eye on the FNP-45, myself.

178 grain .308 Loading Question....
molonlabetn replied to TNRobocop's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
The most logical solution would be to start with the lower charge, and work your way up to the ballistics you're looking for, keeping an eye out for high-pressure signs. I'm no reloader, so I don't know if those are close to max charges... but it seems to me that jumping straight to a max load is ill-advised. -
I don't carry much when I'm home... usually only if I know that I'll be going out again shortly. There's always one loaded somewhere accessible though, but I rely pretty heavily on the Beneful-powered security system

Going on a cruise...any ideas about protection?
molonlabetn replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Pretty much... Going to another country puts you at the mercy of their officials, and let's remember that most are well known for corruption... and that's not even considering the criminal element. -
