TGO's continued evolution: Help me test out NEW forum software!
MiddTennTaco replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
Except its too bright. My computer is hooked up to a 42" TV and as cool as it is wearing sunglasses indoors - - the new forums gives me a tan comparable to living back home in Hawaii. THANKS! -

UPDATE: Well I finally greased my AR-15 with success in addition to my glock. Went shooting today in Woodbury with a friend whos never shot a gun before. Greased guns performed very well. No malfunctions in the glock or AR-15. Except the forced malfunctions in the glock. Friend had the habbit of sending the slide forward really slow when loading. He kept forgetting so I made him put fresh magazines in with the slide locked to the rear. Besides that, everything went well. Place was empty. I had no idea they had reset-able steel targets. That was SO MUCH fun! I felt like an IPSC shooter, lol.

Murfreesboro Roadblock off 840

Because it won't fly in court. Your beef might be with the Supreme Court who ruled road blocks constitutional. Just saying. But yeah, those darn cops. Right? -

That's a real low blow. Interestingly, you make me want to give up my right of free speech. -
Murfreesboro Roadblock off 840

Police departments do not make money from roadblocks. If anything, they lose money. Convicting someone of a DUI is a very difficult, long, and pain staking process at least from where I'm from. Even when folks do get convicted, it’s often not worth it because it’s just a slap on the wrist. This is why you see so many people with driver’s licenses AND DUI convictions. If you have a problem with that, don't take it out on law enforcement. They don't make the laws. Contrary to what I have read in this thread, roadblocks are terrifically effective in catching DUI's. They are far more effective than regular enforcement and get MANY convictions. This is often because the folks running these roadblocks are specialized units who are efficient and experienced with DUI's. The reason why these roadblocks are often put into effect is due to community pressure. Again, back from where I'm from, roadblocks are often used due to community unrest about the number of DUI accidents and deaths. When there is a DUI death related incident publicized on the news, citizens go up in arms saying that policemen aren't doing their jobs. I.E. Policemen don’t care. I.E. Policemen get paid too much. I.E. Policemen just sit around and eat donuts. I.E. Policemen are *******s. Anyway, these police departments have to deal with pressures from the community and groups such as MADD. These factors can very well determine how certain police departments are funded. So yes, there may be money indirectly involved with roadblocks. Not only is a show being put on to make it look like police are doing something, but many more people are arrested for DUI. However, if there were harsher laws with DUI's and better conviction rates and greater drivers license revocations utilized with regular enforcement, there probably wouldn't be a need for these roadblocks. If people started realizing that their driver’s licenses were actually being taken away, that there were more significant punishment for the crime, and that there were a greater likelihood of being convicted, they would be far more deterred to drink and drive. That is absolutely correct, but the number of deaths related to DUI’s completely dwarfs the number of deaths caused by the incidents you are referring to. In 2009 ALONE, there were 13,000 DUI related deaths vs the handful of deaths caused by the type of incidents in which you describe. -
What Rendevous Points thread? I tried searching for it.

18 year old Oklahoma Mom shoots home invader

#1 You don't know when she called 911. #2 Sounds like she did some barricading and obviously got out a shotgun killing some time. #3 From the looks of it, Blanchard is a small friggin town. As-in a two or three policeman department MAX. When I was a police officer, my own beat was about the size of this entire town. #4 It was New Years. I know that during the holidays, domestics are greatly on the rise because everyone is at home. Add alcohol and holiday finances = family feuding. I'm sure a lot of people can relate to that one sibling that comes home for Christmas or to that one family member with a little too much of that eggnog done right. My point is, being a small department there is a great possibility that ALL two or three officers might have been responding to a call on the other side of town. Who even knows where this lady lives. Perhaps she even lives outside of Blanchard with Blanchard having the closest responding police department. -
I just moly-greased my glock. It took me the better part of an hour to remove all the oil from the gun and to grease it. I got a gigantic tube of it from wally world for like $3 (Super-Tech Moly-Lithium grease found in the engine oil section). So far so good. It slides really smooth. We will see how it runs! Converting my AR-15 from oil to grease sounds like a lot of work so I'm going to save that for another day.

I'd get hungry every time I go shooting.

I might be interested. I'm in the 'Boro up by Walter Hill.

What do you use to lubricate your firearms? - I first used CLP oil and solvent which was okay. I then switched to Hoppes oil and solvent - liked it much better. I am now experimenting with Rem Oil. After reading a few posts by Dolomite, I might just throw it all out and look for a tub of "moly grease." However, as thick as grease is, I'm slightly concerned that it might just gum up my guns and create a nightmare for cleaning. Feel free to comment/explain/and share experiences.

My life changer was very recent. A year or two ago, at the age of 20 with little life experience, I applied to and was hired by a major police department. Little did I know that I would be changed completely by this new career choice. I spent some 7 months (some 1300 hrs of training vs the 400 hrs TN standard) in the police academy working my ass off. I felt like I was tried and tested probably more than any other recruit in the academy history. Not only was I the youngest recruit in my class (and the youngest employee of a US major city police department), but also the son of a former assistant chief of police. I honestly wished I had changed my last name and lied about my age on the first day of the academy. Despite these things and AFTER seven months of learning law, use of force, paperwork, physical and mental training and hardening, learning how to REALLY drive, learning to shoot for the first time , tactics, hand to hand combat, being pepper sprayed, being tasered, and literal blood sweat and tears, I finally became a fully sworn police officer on the road. However, during my probationary period and after a couple months on the road, I came to the conclusion that I wasn't ready for a career in law enforcement. I then proceeded to resign from my $55k/yr job to become a nice and poor Tennessean college student. I plan on going back to law enforcement after I finish my Criminal Justice degree. Now, here I am living in Tennessee with my fiance' and studying at MTSU. I figure I'm plenty young. To think I could have retired at the age of 45.

...the Christmas party involves AK 47's. I was with my girlfriends side of the family. I was sitting down relaxing inside and all of I sudden I heard gunfire popping off outside and I **** bricks. I ran outside and everyone was shooting at onions in the backyard! Ha! I just gotta say that this is something you would never be able to do in Hawaii unless you want to get arrested. (I'm originally from Hawaii) I shot five different calibers today and let me tell you... it was awesome, although I might be deaf now. (First time I've gone shooting without hearing protection.) Best Christmas party ever! I love Tennessee! Don't take it for granted folks! And don't forget the reason for the season! MERRY CHRISTMAS! God Bless! Stay safe!

On my last trip to Alaska, we borrowed a .50 Desert Eagle just in case. However, when we arrived we were told by a hunter to not bother trying to shoot it in the head because the bullet will just bounce off of its skull. Instead he instructed us to shoot for the legs and arms.

Wow, I didn't realize most people used grease. I've never used grease on any of my guns, only CLP. Maybe I'll try it sometime.
