  1. It's a legitimate concern, but whether it be good guy or bad guy bullets, they're just as deadly. If I'm willing to risk being shot by an attacker, I suppose I'm willing to risk getting shot by the good guys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. I OWB my 1911, and the muzzle normally sticks out the bottom of my shirt. I was uncomfortable carrying it this way for a while, and was very aware of the people around me and whether they would notice. I never observed anyone notice. While living in TN I'd see a person open carrying every once and a while. I would use that opportunity to watch the people around him to see who noticed. The only time I saw someone notice a OC was in Rural King, and I believe it was only because the observer was standing behind the OCer in line at the counter. Even then, the reaction was nothing. I saw the guy glance down and give a puzzled look. I think he was more interested in what the guy was carrying rather than that he was carrying. I was eating at a Chinese buffet one afternoon and saw an older guy there who was OCing a full size M&P in a Serpa holster. Stood out to me such that it was the first thing I noticed about the guy. Four Clarksville PD came in a short time later for lunch and sat at a table near him. I watched the whole time to see if they noticed. If any of them did, they didn't make it obvious and they never talked to the guy. Carry comfortably. No one will notice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I'm not confusing anything, and I have a lot of experience with the Kurds. Firstly, the only thing confusing here is your statement about tribal alliance. Yes Kurds fall under the tribal system the same as everyone else over there from Pakistan to Israel, but they have no political loyalty, if that's what you're getting at. Anyone who has spent one day in Kurdistan with actual Kurds would know how they are most strongly associated with political parties, namely the two main ones, which are the PUK and KDP. Both are secular parties, which the overwhelming majority of Kurds in Iraq are aligned with; much like the GOP and Democratic parties. So, with that, I'll need an explanation on what the qualifier is for "Kurds" as it relates to your statement of them going with AQAP. That's like saying all Americans are Christian fundamentalist because a small number of lunatics bomb abortion clinics. Onto the al Qaeda Kurdish Battalions. There are more Americans fighting in the ranks of ISIS than there are active members of the AQ Kurdish Battalions. So by your definition of "all" Kurds being allied with AQAP, then you must be allied with ISIS. If you don't like the way that sounds, try saying that to a Kurd. I spent a good chunk of the last decade slaying bodies with Kurds, and they hate the Islamists more than you ever could hope to. Kurds aren't Islamists, they are nationalists, and so secular that call to prayer over loudspeakers was outlawed in the large cities when I was there. I used to live down the street from a Kurdish Communist Party regional office. They had the hammer and sickle flag out and everything. Those offices were all over Kurdistan. The Kurds I talked to about it considered them much of a joke, although they have a significant following in some of the populated areas. Since they are a much larger footprint than all Kurdish Islamist groups combined, and they are atheists, based on your definition of what should qualify as all Kurds, all Kurds must be atheists? I don't know why you included stories on Kongra Gel/PKK, since they aren't even an Islamic group. They've been waging a terrorist campaign against Turkey for decades in the same way the IRA has against GB. I can't imagine a world where the causes of AQAP and PKK would line up, other than a temporary treaty to focus on a common enemy, but even then, the PKK would be such a distasteful ally to ISIS that the IRA, full of Irish Catholics, would get along better. Kurds are political more than anything. They want an independent country, and they reject Islamic fundamentalism, and recognize tribal ties in name only. Kurdistan most secular Muslim place I've been, and that is on a long list of Muslim countries. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Do what? You're gonna have to back that up. If you're referring to Ansar al Sunna, you simply can't lump all Kurds into this category. That's like saying saying everyone from Tennessee is a criminal due to there being some Tennesseans who are criminals. The number of Kurds who support anti-western terrorism is so negligible it shouldn't even be considered. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. If they aren't parked in front of a National Guard armory, then they're either being used on AT ranges as targets or given/sold to other countries. M60 tanks haven't been used for a long time. I've seen lots of 113s in the Mideast still making it happen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. My mags are funding a Mediterranean cruise with my wife. I pulled money out of the vacation investment account to buy them last year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I've certainly broke a few aluminum mags in my day, but after being issued Pmags back in '09, I can't see those things failing unless something traumatic happens. After my deployment in '10, my Pmags looked like they'd been dragged behind a truck for several miles, but they were just fine. As for springs, I still haven't experienced a failure related to springs yet. Not saying that it isn't possible, but I would think that if it were that common, I would have experienced by now several times over. I consider magazines as expendables in a gunfight, but as for wear and tear, I've only seen GI aluminum mags fail due to "moderate" exposure to real world conditions. It's why I'm strictly Pmag now. Even my AKs use them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Hence the AK for me. I'm not big on safe queens. My AKs look like AKs. Plus they're relatively cheap in the realm of military style rifles, so if I lose one I can go get another without much heartache. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. I started keeping a cheap AK in the truck after that incident up in New York with 100+ crotch rocket riders attacking that family in the SUV on the interstate. I can't think of too many circumstances where I'd need a rifle, but I know if one comes up I won't be wishing I had one. Would I trust a cheap AK with my life? Of course. I've handled and fired hundreds of AKs in my time. I haven't used one yet that didn't go bang every time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13.   I think there was a small scale panic due to the advanced notice of Obama doing an "unprecedented" speech.  I expect another small scale panic around September/October when the Democrats pull one of their classic dirty tricks out before the election.
  14. 3 mags for handgun, with the exception of 1911, since carry mags and range mags are different.  I don't believe in a necessity of having more magazines than I can reasonably carry.  I would say 10 rifle mags per rifle, and that's including go bag mags.  I don't see the benefit of having 15, 20, 30 mags jammed like I often see.  I can promise you that a gun fight which necessitates 20 rifle mags is one you won't survive long enough to use them all.
  15. Having a child changes you as a person.  Having a daughter changes you as a man.
  16. An 11 year old can handle a 20ga just fine, and will continue to use it as he gets older.  I haven't used a 410 since I was 9 or 10.
  17.   I used to deliver pizzas a long, long time ago.  You get a lot of calls to the projects when you're a pizza delivery guy.  You'd be amazed at the expensive, new vehicles I saw there.  It doesn't surprise me at all when I see career welfare recipients driving nicer cars than I could afford.  I, on the other hand, couldn't afford a new vehicle until 11 years ago.  It was the first new vehicle I ever bought, and I still drive it today.  Plan on driving it for the next 10 years, then pass it down to my son.    It's examples like these which give me cause to believe that people who are perpetually poor and on the government titty are in that position because they make bad decisions as a rule.   ETA: You'd also figure that with those nice new cars they'd have money for a tip.  Alas, that was not the case.  Not one time.  Ever.
  18. I can think of several recent shootings which were abruptly stopped once an armed citizen returned fire.  I can't think of a single shooting in the news where a citizen returned fire and the shooting did not immediately stop.  In fact, the only two terrorist attacks which did not occur in gun free states/gun free zones, would be the one at the Draw Muhammed contest and the Chattanooga shooting.  In both those circumstances, once the shooter was engaged it was pretty much over.

  22. I don't know why do many folks believe their chance is "slim" when using a pistol to confront a person with an AK.  Yes, the obvious advantage goes to the person with the rifle, due to power, range and capacity.  However, those advantages are useless in the hands of someone unprepared/untrained to deal with being shot at.  These types are cowards who aren't looking for a fight; they're looking for a slaughter.  Whether they're armed with a military style rifle or a bazooka, 9mm still hurts.  It still has an effect on their ability to function and breathe.  Being shot at is an emotional event for those who aren't prepared for it, and for these types of people, chances are they have never been shot at before.  The only way they're going to find out how well they react when that first round comes screaming at them is once it actually happens.   Regardless of whether they shoot back, flee, give up or die in place, it will take the focus off slaughtering the sheep.  It will save lives, no question.  Certainly the smart people here have figured out that all these mass shootings have occurred in gun free zones.  That isn't by accident.  There is a reason there.
  23.   That would matter if every attack and every attacker were exactly the same.  You, nor anyone else, can say definitively what a criminal WILL do in a certain scenario.  We can wargame what an attacker COULD do all day long to no real benefit.  What it all boils down to is having the tools to defend yourself and being situationally aware.  Everything else is luck or chance.   Also, where do you get that pepper spray is "not much of a deterrent"?  In what circumstance?  It's one hell of a deterrent!  Yes, some people are affected more than others, and there is a very small percentage of people who aren't affected at all, but "not much of a deterrent"?  It's used, and works, all the time.  Not only that, the blaster I posted is an extremely concentrated version of it, much stronger than standard spray OC.  I consider myself to be a relatively tough guy, but if I'm sprayed with OC, I'm done.  Whatever it was that I was doing to get sprayed, I'm not doing it anymore.
