  1. I have driven through there a few times and have seen people panning for gold, but not sure what the take might be. Sounds like an interesting way to spend a day, especially if you have family and kids involved.
  2. Tennessee State Parks: Policies Firearms, traps and other weapons Exceptions to weapons prohibition provided below. In park, natural, and historical areas the use of traps, seines, handthrown spears, nets (except landing nets), firearms (including air and gas powered pistols and rifles), blow guns, bows and arrows or crossbows, and any other implements designed to discharge missiles in the air or under the water which are capable of destroying animal life is prohibited. The possession of such objects or implements is prohibited unless they are unloaded and adequately cased, or broken down or otherwise packed in such a way as to prevent their use while in the park areas. Exception 1: Shooters may use recreational target shooting ranges available for skeet, trap and bow and arrow target shooting within a park area as long as these weapons are properly cased when not on the range. Exception 2: Authorized Federal, State, County and City law enforcement officers may carry firearms in the performance of their official duties. Exception 3: Persons using park area facilities while participating in authorized open or managed hunts within the park areas or beyond, may use and possess firearms under the specific rules and regulations pertaining to the authorized hunt and only in the authorized hunting zones or compartments. Exception 4: While State Parks' rules and regulations prohibit firearm possession and use, Public Chapter 428 of 2009 created an exception in state firearms law that allows individuals with a valid "carry permit" under TCA § 39-17-1351 to carry a handgun within the boundaries of all state parks. While this new law makes an exception for possession, it does not make exception to the use of a firearm. Discharging a weapon in non-designated areas of our parks is still an offense. If a permit holder fires a weapon in self-defense, the holder bears the burden of proof to avoid potential charges under "prohibited firearm use."
  3. Count me in. Thanks for posting up brooksjr.
  4. I am sure they will chime in soon enough, but I have visited on many occasions and have glanced at the sign. I do believe it refers only to guns you are having looked at, or wanting to trade, or fit for a holster etc. I do believe that either later in the sign or another sign that it says something to the effect that all carry weapons must remain holstered. 100% sure that holstered carry weapons are A OK in this establishment.
  5. Welcome to TGO from Franklin Co. as well. Glad to have you. Lots of good people here on the forums. Enjoy your stay.
  6. One of the guys from the forum that I met at the Guns and Leather Shoots works on generators I think. Maybe he will chime in.
  7. +1 on the Bookers. Good quality stuff. I used to treat myself to a bottle of this 1 to 2 times per year...definitely a higher caliber bourbon than most. Also the other three Jim Beam small batch bourbons are nice as well for a bit less. (Baker's, Basil Hayden, and of course Knob Creek). But Bourbon is always best when shared with good friends. If you run short of friends before you run out of Booker's, look me up
  8. Welcome to TGO and thanks for the invite. I will make sure to stop in for some BBQ my next trip through the Knoxville area.
  9. I have always hiked in State Parks, National Forests, and other areas even during hunting season and have thus far never had any issues. Although I do try to wear, at the very least, some orange.....usually in the form of a hat or other Tennessee Football apparel.....another reason to be a fan; double duty of clothes.
  10. That is a sweet looking gun Jhatmaker. Bet the wait only made it sweeter upon bringing it home.
  11. Not sure if they are posted or not, but you also have the option of Marion County State Park that is good to go now with the new State Park carry law.
  12. Maybe everyone got busy with it being around tax time and all? I am still up for it if/when it does work out.
  13. Willis68, that Wilson Combat is sweet. If I ever have the money (not looking good right now), I am going to have Jeff at Hero Gear build a bobtail commander for me. The demo gun in that configuration is heaven in the hands. No matter how much I tell them I don't have the money for the thing, it seems that every sales person there finds a way to hand it to me.
  14. I like those grips. What kind are they? They look quite grippy.
  15. A few pictures of my Kimber Stainless II I have been meaning to take and post for some time. The Alumagrips and Wilson Combat Mainspring Housing/Magwell are thanks to Mrnick. And thanks to Jeff at Hero-Gear for installing the grips for me thanks to those pesky Kimber Grip Screw Bushings.
  16. Good luck ab28. Thanks for the update. Remember you can dry out at least one article of clothes in the bottom of your sleeping bag each night. (any more than that and they will not dry). Might be a good place to keep those socks to keep them from freezing. Probably not a concern with the new warm weather though.
  17. Seems like I remember that in Ohio, your firearm had to be in a holster on your person or locked in a box. Discussed this with a gunstore owner outside of Dayton and he seemed to think this was to make sure you had control over the weapon (i.e. a child or someone else couldn't access your weapon as if it were in the console or tucked between seats, etc.) Might want to read up on that. I found that of interest as I usually have one weapon on my person and another located somewhere readily accessable . Anyone else heard of this?
  18. I didn't vote in the poll yet, but would definitely try to attend no matter where the decision is made to shoot and eat. As long as I get to shoot and eat, or eat and shoot I am good to go
