  1. Hope you get to feeling better David. Knew something was up when you posted your gun porn today...was thinking...isn't he supposed to be at work? +1 on the Flonase or Nasonex; if it is truely allergies not a sinus infection, they do actually work pretty well.
  2. South Cumberland Recreation Area (State Park) is tops on my local list. Great trails, good trail maintenance, and the best Park Rangers that I have met anywhere. It encompasses several areas including Savage Gulf, Fiery Gizzard (a top 100 trail in the US), and Carter Cave Natural Area (Buggytop Cave). Cherokee National Forest is at the top of my list for car camping/trout fishing.
  3. I picked one up for my full size 1911 at Hero-Gear a couple of months ago. Seems to be pretty good for the price. OWB belt type. Is still a little tight but is working fine. Didn't notice it when I purchased it but my extended thumb safety rides directly on the inside lip of the holster making it completely impossible to accidentally disengage it while the weapon is holstered. Guess I would like to have a nicer holster one day, but for the price it does the job.
  4. Just saw this on WBIR's website. WBIR.com | Knoxville, TN | Tenn. House GOP leader Jason Mumpower to retire By Erik Schelzig, Associated Press Writer NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- House Majority Leader Jason Mumpower, who lost last year's election for speaker in a shocking upset, has announced he won't seek re-election. The Bristol Republican told the chamber Thursday that he won't be a candidate this fall for the seat he first won 14 years ago. Mumpower was the Republican nominee to become speaker after the GOP gained a 50-49 majority in 2008. But fellow Republican Rep. Kent Williams of Elizabethton banded together with all the chamber's Democrats to thwart Mumpower's bid by a single vote. In his speech to members, Mumpower said he's pleased to "start a new phase" in his life, but did not say what his plans are.
  5. RIP Mars. I am glad that I came around here while he was still with us, even it was only for a short while.

    Les Baer TRS

Kano, that does look sweet. Hope I can see at person one day at one of the G & L shoots.
  7. They actually have had it priced as low as 299.99 during the rebate offer, but for some reason varies by the day. Might catch it a few dollars cheaper if you watch the site, but have also seen it there for as high as 349.99 when the rebate first came out. (edit: the polished version you refer to may be different than their normal one; not sure) A friend of mine has the 9mm version. Has been a solid gun, but I have to say the trigger pull is quite long and heavy; but I guess you never have to worry about accidentally pulling it.

    FNP-45

Yes it can be carried that way. Guess that might be good "in a backpack" where it might get banged around a bit, but between the long double action trigger pull and being in a holster covering the trigger guard, I would think that the safety might not really be needed for normal DA carry.

    FNP-45

I have the USG model and love it. It was the version that comes with 2 14 round and 1 15 round mags. It became my carry gun this winter and is easier to conceal than I first thought. (a good carry belt helps.) I do like the option of cocked and locked or double action for the first shot. I will definitely be giving the FNX pistols a hard look when they come out.
  10. Good pictures clsutton21. I have all those same pictures just several years older. Angel Falls Overlook....and another overlook just down the trail are both great for watching meteor showers. Less light pollution there than a lot of hiking areas.
  11. Nice pictures. For those springtime slick spots, Yaktrax for your regular hiking boots are a good addition; a lot lighter and more versatile than a full set of crampons. Although with 48in at the top regular snowshoes might have been in order closer to the summit.
  12. I just changed my address online as well. I went through the link to change HCP address and it stated that DL address would also be automatically updated. I would normally pay a few extra dollars to get new copy of DL, but didn't want the hassle of printing the HCP duplicate form and mailing it in or going to the DMV so opted for the online change only. That way at least my addresses match from DL to HCP (albeit the old address). Am sure anyone (hopefully) that is in need of seeing either my permit or DL is now used to the option of having it changed only in the database.
  13. I think it was the Hague Convention of 1899 actually
  14. Welcome to TGO from Franklin County.
  15. Note: The just 50$ fine only applies to Knoxville parks since they left their old ordinance intact and did not opt out of the new "guns in parks" law.
  16. Congratulations Brooksjr. You are a good guy. I think our county just got a bit safer. Wish it had been a little sooner/easier for you, but at least now it is all said and done.
  17. A book that I have is Medicine: For Mountaineering and Other Wilderness Activities. Even with some of the more advanced topics in the book, the rule is to evacuate as soon as possible; problem with SHTF scenarios is that evacuation may not be possible for extended periods of time or indefinitely.

    FNX-9

From what I can tell from the pictures, the grips and styling of the new FNX 9 and 40 seem more like that of the FNP-45 which I really like. Although I have the USG model, I still have been carrying for the most part hammer down. I will have to check into the FNX models. Are they just DA/SA or do they have a USG variant capable of cocked and locked?
  19. Congratulations on the addition. I have been carrying mine all this winter. I have the OD green version (would have preferred the version you have, but I picked it up used). I carry it in a leather belt holster with quite a bit of forward cant to it; conceals pretty well even with just a button up shirt untucked; disappears under a jacket. I just picked up a 5.11 leather belt from Hero Gear that makes the weight much more managable. Am sure going to miss it when the weather warms up, and I have to downsize.
  20. Welcome to TGO from another Franklin Countian.
  21. Although I was hoping it would remain in Winchester, and become a "go to" destination. You know what I mean...that out of the way restaurant that everyone goes to anyway because the food or service is so special. I actually thought that with the great idea/concept of "expo" vs. gun show, this could be pulled off even in the somewhat remote location of Winchester. But, I understand the business decision of moving the show closer to a population center, with better access for a greater number of people. Maybe a new location will allow the great expo concept to grow more quickly - And that is more important I think, that the concept has a chance to take off and do well. No matter where you choose to have the expo, I will attend and will try to get the word out to all my friends, coworkers, etc. If the location is in Middle TN or Chattanooga area, I would be glad to work the show again as well.
  22. +1 Mostly around the trailheads for that matter. Most criminals are opportunists not willing to walk very far or limit their escape by going too far in. That being said, I have met some crazies on the trail, but fortunately none that were harmful to anyone but maybe themselves. Not sure what I would carry in real bear country (i.e. Alaska, Glacier NP, etc.).
  23. Good photos. I think I even recognize the curve in photo #4.
  24. Unfortunately most of the 9mm in Winchester is in the 50 round boxes so you pay a couple dollars more per 100, but at least it is there.
