  1. Same thing happened with mine. YHM set screw low pro gas block. I took it off and reinstalled it- no problems now.
  2. You know, I was never in the service, so maybe I'm just ignorant, but I often wonder how many of our troops would be ok with being issued an AR as opposed to an M4 or other select fire weapon, which actually is designed for military use. Seems like a poor argument that an AR is/was 'militarily designed for mass carnage on a battlefield'.
  3. My Shield in 9 is my EDC as well, in a Galco King Tuk IWB holster. Very happy.
  4. I just left. Grabbed a couple good $10 ammo cans and some powder and bullets- wish David or Sam would have been there, but I needed to grab some. The ammo prices at the last Murfreesboro show were better, just from what I saw- no competition with online pricing, which is not surprising. It was ok- nothing shocking, but something to do for a little while.
  5. I did a search and didn't see anything mentioned about this book, but I just finished 'Day of Wrath' by Forstchen, the author of 'One Second After'.   Quite disturbing, and something I'd highly recommend.  Makes a person want to carry a bigger firearm at all times.  Or several.
  6. I agree. I really think the best thing is that the Repubs now have the chance to make Dems look like obstructionists- Obama is the face of the party, whether Dems like that or not- and hopefully position the party (R) well for 2016.
  7. So, it's been a while since my original post, so I thought I'd give an update.  I took the handguard off, as well as the gas block and tube. I cleaned everything and re-assembled. The first time I took it to the range a couple of weeks ago following this, I fired about 70 rounds, and had one FTE and resulting jam.  Today, I took it out, uncleaned from the last trip, and put 80 rounds of AE brass .223 through it without a single hiccup.   I guess that the gas system was the culprit in my initial failure- I'm a bit confused why it would have had a FTE on the first trip after reassembly though. Maybe just an anomaly-  some weird ammo statistical dud- who knows.   Since the original post, I've gotten Go / No Go gauges, and will check that. Otherwise, I think it will be an issue of checking the low-pro gas block for tightness from time to time.   If I have anything incredibly useful to add to the thread as I go along< I'll add to the post. Thanks all!
  8. I'm clearly in the minority here, but I must be in the 'hit' category. I have them for two handguns, and mine run fine.
  9. I visited David and Sam's table and that was about all I needed. I did see $10 Pmags, and from what I saw, it seems .22LR is trending in the area of .10 to .12 per round. Not great, but it slowly keeps getting lower. Tons of it out there.
  10.   I sent a message to Krogers this morning stating exactly this.
  11. 100 yrs, 50 yds, 25 yds, 12 yds (more for pistol, really), and then the pistol pit, which is basically from point blank range out to 15 yds or so.
  12. Thanks for the replies guys.   I really don't have any visions of amassing an amazing collection of surplus arms-  I would imagine that if I pulled the plug, my 'book' would be pretty small.    There are a few things I'd like to pick up along the way however- and having a C&R might be beneficial there.   I was unclear about the step-around to a regular FFL though, for non-C&R firearms. I didn't find that clear in my readings across the interwebs.  It would have certainly sweetened the pot.   Thanks for clearing it up for me.
  13. I've been doing a cost/benefit analysis into applying for a C&R license, and I have a question about purchases.   If I understand correctly, you can purchase a C&R firearm and have it shipped directly to you instead of going through an FFL.   My question is this-  does this apply only to C&R firearms, or does it include any firearms?   Thanks
  14. Guys-   I've read online about headspacing an AR  until my eyes bled, but I really cant seem to find a definitive answer on this issue-   So, if you are mating a new barrel (20in) to an upper receiver, is it necessary to check headspace?  Some say always, others say the barrel maufacturer sets the headspace on their end so you just install the barrel and go shoot it.     BTW, the barrel would be of new manufacture, and the BCG would be one that I already had- what was previously a spare.  I think it came from AIM, if it matters.   Thanks-
  15. Are they available again? I love supporting them, but haven't been able to get through to them...
  16. I can't imagine that Malaysia Airlines' stock is doing very well this year.
  17. I'd really like some Titegroup. Let us know how/when to get a hold of you. I'll ask Samantha too.
  18. Seen a lot of .mil convoys travelling 840 lately. Was in Destin a few weeks ago, and though .mil air traffic is expected there with the nearby bases, a whole lot of Ospreys were running around, which I found unusual.
  19. The gas block moving may well be the issue. It is the set-screw type, under the handguard. I'll do a triple-double check and see if I can determine that. I'll also scrub the gas system out when I disassemble it.  I was suspecting this (gas) was the issue, but wanted to test the waters before I tore the thing down.   The ammo has all been brass through this carbine since I got it- Remington UMC or American Eagle, for the most part.   Thanks for the tips guys-  I'll let ya'll know what I figure out.     FWIW, I have another (different) carbine that I shoot steel cased Russian junk through all the time-  it just eats it up.  I dunno.
  20. I've got a build that I got some time ago that's giving me fits. Maybe you guys can help me figure out what's up with it.  I bought the rifle from another guy locally, and it did fine. I decided to change out the handguard to a YHM one, with a low profile  YHM gas block. As I remember (this started last year), it worked fine then too. Until the middle of one range trip when it decided it was a bolt gun instead of an AR.  It suddenly stopped ejecting the spent cartridge and picking up a new one. You can fire it one round at a time by cycling through with the charging handle,  but it won't function in SA.  I swapped out BCG's with another, known working carbine, and nothing changed. Same problem. So I guess I can count that out- extractor, etc.  Does this sound like a gas issue to you all? The gas block is tight to the barrel, but I can't figure out what else might be causing the issue.  Appreciate your $.02.......  Thanks
  21. Is this fact, that you may have a firearm in your car on school property? Not doubting you, but if you can provide a link, I'd appreciate it. I have to pick up my kids from school all the time, and if I can leave the Shield in the car rather than go home and put it away first, I'd be happy to learn that.
  22. Yep. The one I saw was marked at $110 or so.
