  1. I'm really glad someone stared this thread. I had thought about it, but stopped myself because the situation is still evolving. I'm an old Boy Scout, so 'Be Prepared' is sort of in my DNA. I'm pretty well set, but one thing I have learned... my wife and kids dont understand 'conserving resources' in the same way I do. Edit: if the trucking industry goes to Hell, we're all in a bad mess.
  2. My wife and her family are from Carter Co. I'm getting lots of fun info from them about the shenanigans there. At least her family is actually concerned and staying inside, despite many of the other yahoos around them. They actually sent us a care package of Clorox wipes that no one there was really concerned about buying, I guess.
  3. Absolutely agree. I'm at the saturation point, worrying about my own health, as well as my family's health. Not to mention whatever is left of my retirement fund. I did a bunch of yardwork and took an old car out for a spin today to relax a little.
  4. Most, if not all, of the ATA and SCTP trap matches are cancelled, from what I understand.
  5. He who controls the toilet paper, alcohol and tobacco shall be king.
  6. Today's TP is yesterday's 22LR. No reason for that either.
  7. Maybe I'm not paying enough attention, but what's the difference? Edit. NM. I see it now. Thanks!
  8. I got one today. I'm too far away to help personally, but I thought it was a good way to show some support for Putnam Co. Rescue squad and the recovery efforts.
  9. Anyone have any experience or stories about these? They have me interested, just thought I'd check to see if anyone had one or looked into it before. Evidently they can even take relatively inexpensive Glock mags. https://ruger.com/products/pcCarbine/specSheets/19116.html
  10. Just to add to my previous post.....it's important to count your blessings. Regardless of what your spiritual beliefs are. I am guilty of this, and have to remind myself sometimes. Think of your lot in life, and put yourself 100 or 150 years ago. It's not that long ago, in the grand scheme of things. Oh, what our predecessors would have thought about electricity on demand, TV, wifi and phone everywhere, clean water and food in abundance, sewer, modern antibiotics, and all of those things. When you start to think about having things hard, perspective is important.
  11. Most of what I would have to offer has already been said. Live below your means. Have a budget, and learn how money works. Listen closely to your parents and grandparents. There are lessons there. And ask them questions...in the words of my late grandfather, "once the library is closed, its closed baby". Never pass up a good opportunity to shut your mouth. If I had a nickel for everything I've ever said or done that I wish I hadn't, I'd have a large pile of nickels. On the flip side, if I had a nickel for everything I'd never said or done that I should have.. it would also be a large pile of nickels. As a previous poster noted, try to make the second list shorter than the first.
  12. And 455's later. Not sure I ever heard of a Pontiac 389 being a 'lemon'.
  13. 1966 Pontiac GTO. Drove it through the high school years in Knoxville. Way too much for a 16 year old...had some close calls. Got the car in 1985... and I still have it in my garage.
  14. Is the GWOT over? Will it ever be? Is this outside of the scope of that? Maybe I'm just naive, but I dont see the problem with this.
  15. I was there about 30 years ago. Cool place. Great pics!
  16. I've been following this topic to see where it would go, but I'll just add that it's not only firearms that are of concern. The stuff that we have that is important to US is not necessarily important to others, family or otherwise. I have some belongings that are hugely important to ME, that no one else really cares about. It's my interest, and my time, work and money that has gone into it. As much as I've tried to get my kids involved, they just dont care. I've had a hard time getting that through my head, but it's starting to sink in. So, eventually, I'll have to make decisions about selling those things, as hard as it will be for ME. I remember telling my grandfather a similar thing before he passed away, which helps me deal with it....that while I respect your time, interest and hobby, I'm just really not where you are with this. It's a bit of a reality check, for sure.
  17. Since Google is working for and/or contracted by Ascension, Google has to abide by the same HIPAA laws that Ascension does. It would be the same arrangement if Ascension would have hired Bob and Dave's Healthcare Data Company of Bucksnort Tn to do the healthcare claims analysis. Penalties for not abiding by HIPAA laws under this sort of contractual arrangement are pretty severe. The weird part of the whole arrangement is that Google has so much of *everyones* other data, that it makes one suspicious.
  18. Surprising the way that this all came out, for sure. More broadly, this is all about healthcare claims analysis using AI (artificial intelligence) platforms. Google is one of the major players and competitors in this emerging market, along with a few others. It's a big deal. Still, kinda surprising how this hit the news.
  19. I'd love to check it out. My grandfather was a radio man on LSTs and LCTs in the Pacific in WWII.
  20. Edit In a post several years ago, I made the suggestion of springs, detents, bolts, and firing pins. I would stand by that today, if anyone hasn't done that yet. And reloading stuff.
