Is there a good source for receiver-less parts kit that wouldn't throw you over the price of a new gun once you get everything you need to build? Gt's locally has some pretty nice AK style guns for $440 out the door.

Remington 870 backwards safety

No problem.....I have a magnet in my shop that has went over the entire surface of my floor on several occasions to find such items. Glad I saved you from having to do the same. -
Remington 870 backwards safety

You can do it....it is a rather simple mechanism. The two pins at the bottom of the receiver push out and the whole trigger subassembly pops out. Then push the pin out above the safety....there is a spring there that can launch so watch out or take apart in a gallon ziplock bag to catch parts. Slide the safety out....reverse it....then put everything back together. -
They work very, VERY well in reducing felt recoil. They are not a gimmick, are not well known by most folks, and have been used for about as long as they have been making big bore rifles. The ones that I have installed required me to drill from the buttstock...can use 1 big one or several small ones to get the same effect. Some are made to fit the factory buttstock hole depending on the gun. but yes...the majority of the effect comes from the extra mass. The difference in felt recoil can be dramatic. A good semi auto gas shotgun with a good pad and a couple of recoil arrestors can make a target 12ga load feel like a break action .410 Even the ones that screw on the gripcap of shotguns work well

I wouldn't retrofit my revolvers to have a manual safety. Considering the glock is the functional replacement of the revolver and the user input is intentionally the same...there is no real need for a manual safety. However it isn't a "stupid" device or one that has been Shunned by glock because they are already "perfect" in their words. I do recall Glock actually supplying their guns at one time with a similar setup to certain departments (mainly overseas). Even had a product number for them if I recall correctly. Thus there was a need for such a device where police deparments required a manual select safety

+2 to this....avoid the cheap military wanna-be scopes.

The funny thing is that if the gun buying public was rational....that is what they should be commonly selling for in the first place.

I have seen a surprising number of pistol caliber contenders with threaded barrels and cans. The ones in .44 mag shooting subsonic 240 grain lead are scary quiet. Only advice that I can give when getting your barrel - if you are going to shoot slow and surpressed make sure you get a fast enough twist on the barrel if you are going to be shooting heavy for caliber bullets. A 1 in 24" twist just won't work well with 300 grain .44 mag bullets or 200 grain .38 special bullets. -
Yep....It is defective. Pack it up and send it to me - I will send my FFL info in a PM

If it is a small crack the super glue is fine, but if you can get epoxy in there....nothing, and I mean nothing gets a stock back together like epoxy resin If you can wedge it open a little with a toothpick without breaking or damaging the surface...the best way I have found to fix a crack is mix some 2 part epoxy resin (not the 5 minute...the 30min-1hr set stuff) and scrape it in the crevice. Then blow it in with compressed air. Get as much as you think you will need to saturate and then clamp it together by wrapping with surgical tubing. Wrap it a lot and tight. The tubing is $0.50 a foot at Lowes in the rope section. I have had 336 marlin stocks in 3 pieces that were repaired to where you couldn't tell they were busted. Tighter you wrap...the better you hide those cracks. -

Yeah you are right. Lot of work. It certainly is unique! I think that a falling block or #1 action might be a better tinkering start for me. Of course a contender/encore or NEF would get me there cheaper....it sure wouldn't be as fun. -
Beretta was here in Chattanooga last week with their goodie trailer. Talked to the guys a bit....they use ATF on all their shotguns.

I love the ones where Dunlap is going over a particularly hard gun to work on....has bandages all over his fingers. LOL They are top notch...especially the non armorer ones like the bluing, springs, and finishing ones. The armorer ones have too much time spent watching someone scrub a gun with a toothbrush and simple green IMHO.

You are sure right about that one. These are the same people who think reloads are inferior to factory ammo. I'll have to admit that CLP is good stuff, but thinking outside the box gets you a lot for less when it comes to the firearm industry.

I use Molybdenum Disulfide axle grease on the internals of guns that aren't meant to be detail stripped but once ever decade or so....High end shotguns mainly. It works very well on slides of semis also...I am sure that this red grease is pretty good too.

They are way underrated rifles....not sure why

But bkelm - I do agree with you on this one People who know better than to spend big money on 1/2 of overpriced lubricant do. ATF is great also.
-
That is not entirely true....actually not even remotely true. I don't know what kind of school that they teach this. Spit can be a lubricant depending on what it is used on. For aluminum ladders...there is really no better lubrication than WD-40. Actually there is, but kerosene is a bit dangerous to use.

I wonder if one could make a dual port Savage model 12 receiver work with a fat cased 45, .44 or .357? throw round in one side and have them eject out the other? I will have to take a look at this because it would eliminate the "mag" problem. -
Believe it or not....Yes. In the early 90's I remember it being $15 a box.

Nylon 66 would make your head asplode. It too is considered one of the greatest .22 caliber guns made. How about any double barrel taken down to an equivalent inventory of parts. Think about it this way. A $300 Slabside MKII with a good trigger will outshoot a $2000 1911. Sorry if anyone doesn't agree, but the ones who do have their heads in the sand. This is why people put up with the crazy teardown. If it didn't shoot then people would buy something else.
