Reloading is about to get more expensive???
I_Like_Pie replied to East_TN_Patriot's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
If there is someone in Knoxville on the bench about reloading. They need to take you up on this. I echo this.... If there is someone in Chattanooga wanting to learn the strings of reloading. I don't have any kits to give away, but I do have a very well equipped reloading room and 20+ years experience reloading. Am also considering setting up a couple of training classes at CRC in the next year or so. PM me and some rainy day I can show anyone in the area how simple and rewarding it is to load your own ammo. -

Yes...this is true. Things are not going to get cheaper, but they aren't going to get any easier to find either. -

Despite the fancy machinery that allows for mass production and hazardous materials....I beg to differ. The cost is from overhead as you have stated. They are not losing money. -

There is still a lot of unnatural and irrational markup in prices of ammo and components. Look at the difference in the price of loaded 38 special vs 357 magnum ....or .30/30 Winchester vs .30/06 There is a 75% price difference in the price despite a practically nill amount of difference in the materials between the two. There are similar discrepancies in component prices. I am sorry, but primers are stupid cheap to make and saying that material prices are driving the cost of 1000 primers from $25 to $35....they are lying to you. It is still largely supply and demand. -
Whatever it is....looks like a model 34 custom rebarrel and cylinder or taken from another j-Frame. An adjustable sight, .22 j-frame, with a 3" barrel and lanyard loop is certainly an interesting gun. It has a target hammer and square cylinder release also. Very cool gun. I wouldn't ever part with it if I were you. You will never see another like that one.

At CRC here in Chattanooga...there is a group of 15 or so in rimfire pistol silhouette. All but one uses a T/C contender. It must differ from club to club.
-
Yes...this is truth. There is a WORLD of difference between San Fran and NYC. If you can get over the people everywhere it you may actually like it more than you think.

It is a bench gun for plinking at the range. With a red dot on top it is really fun and the kids absolutly LOVE it. The inherit bulk of rifles make it less fun for them if they are under 12 or very small. Could see it (if it would qualify) used for a competition, but I don't think it could compete against the T/C guns in silhouette matches. It should actually cost less than the 10/22....less material...less shipping costs...etc. Go figure.

I trust a pump way more than a semi-auto....especially if it is destined to sit in a closet for decades on end.

Handloader Simply because it actually has non biased articles, information catering to people who actually understand that it is about the cartridge as much as it is the gun, and doesn't pander to G.I. Joe/Soldier of fortune losers or the end of times wingers. In short...it is about the hobby of shooting and nothing else. Even if you don't reload it is always an enjoyable read. One of the few publications that I can think of that employs objective, results based analysis rather than typical subjective opinion.

If it was a big mortar...was probably for all 14 of them. Guess they were shooting close over a hill with a bunch of strong wind.....that sucks!
-
Oh....it was Guntests magazine. That explains it.

Wha!? Do they realize that everything ruger has ever produced was basically an engineering refinement of others products. The entire firearm industry is based upon copying and recycling designs of others....couple of pioneers standing on the shoulders of giants. That review lost any credibility saying something like that

Jeez man....no need for that much pain. Let me meet you somewhere in Hixson and I will show you all about them. Academy maybe?
-
Here is the thing....they would have stopped selling them 60 years ago if they didn't out shoot just about every pistol made. I kid you not I could spend less than 5 minutes showing how the internals work on a MK gun and you would be able to field strip it blindfolded.

graycrait gives great advice here. Remember that the 100 year old G.I. specs demand accuracy of sub 4" at 25 yards. That is honestly better than most people can shoot offhand, on par with many current issue pistols, and more than adequate at any SD range. The main reason being a loose bushing to improve field serviceability. There isn't an honest difference in shoot ability between an entry level $600 and mid level $1000 gun if you fit up your own tight bushing immediatly after you purchase your gun. That being said I do like (and own several) 1911s made by S&W. They are good out of the box and I happen to like the external extractor. It is an improvement in my opinion of the original 1911. The series 80 style disconnect....not so much, but it isn't even obvious to me in the S&W design as in other series 80 1911s.

You did good. It is a solid gun and will serve you for as long as you keep it. These days the M&P, Glock, and XD are the Ford, Chevy, and Dodge of the gun world...whatever fits you the best is what you will generally drive.
-
Nope...Cheez speaks the truth There are no LE restrictions on S&W. Grab them while you can at GT dist as they also got burned by the prices reductions from the MSRP and are looking for another distributer. They just sold the last of their bodyguard revolver line for $350 with laser.
-
It isn't a hunch...it is a very true situation that creates somewhat of a problem for the company. S&W is going though the same thing right now. They can't just lower the MSRP because it would piss off (rightly so) all of the dealers who have inventory at the higher price. So the result is that they have to market a totally different level of product to keep everyone happy. In this case the result is the CM9
-
Seconded....Very funny This is the douche-o-meter concept I was referring to early on. It works very well
-
The term is now interchangeable to the point of being ubiquitous. So much so that it is somewhat of a running joke for some. It can also used in an as a douche-o-meter with stunning accuracy....try it out on you least favorite gun shop staff or other loathsome range brethren.

Gun shows would be even more awesome if they sold candied apples, funnel cakes, and airbrushed T-Shirts. Have to know the crowds to make money and catering to the trailer trash customers that line up like ducks. Cheap crap scopes, mall ninja ware, overpriced crap that individuals would be too embarrassed to sell to their friends, and snake oil products do well there because people are stupid enough to buy them. There is, in defense of the shows, an ever smaller population of collectors and C&R folks. Only problem is that they are just there meeting their shooting buddies rather than buying and selling stuff at the tables.

Foolowed everyone advice spent a little more and got a decent handgun
