  1. I really hated the book after reading it in high school. I decided to watch the movie in hopes to be "enlightened" like so many people claim to be... Nope. It was the same stinking pile of crap that it was before. Seems I have seen enough power through charity, love, and faith (in addition to the theme of human interests, suffering, and death) to have a totally different perspective than Rand.
  2. Know it has been said many times....But I agree. How is it a waste? They are practically giving them away and still have stockpiles of them laying around. Heck the rear sights on just one of my crappier pistols cost more than the entire gun.
  3. I like stainless for an unusual reason. The front sight is screwed on instead of soldered as with the blued ones. I shoot heavy for caliber bullets and always have to install a taller front sight. Easier with a stainless gun. Also like the touch-up with stainless. Blued is certainly more "classic" looking however.
  4. Nope....they just suck. I did the exact same several times over the past 2 or 3 years. failure rate is about 10%. It is simply awful and they are really damaging their reputation by selling that crap.
  5. It wasn't a rumor really...It was actually almost introduced at the Shot show, but they held off for the NRA event.
  6. Beat me to it. Clean it....check for above. If that doesn't fix it....it is the extractor. There really isn't anything else that goes wrong with these things unless there are some poorly modified parts on it.
  7. ...And yes...if that is not a "hot" gun then you should buy it right now.
  8. From what I can tell it is the unloaded non-overhead cost of materials, tooling, and labor....it is NOT (despite the circulation of information on the internet and lawsuit dispositions) the total cost of a glock after shipping, support, CS, administration, IT, marketing, taxes, importation, and hazmat fees are rolled into the mix. It is a very dishonest number if given as total cost.
  9. Springs are cheap if they do wear out. I have some MKII mags that have been loaded since the 1980's ready to dispatch squirrels and they are no worse for wear. The general rule for the elasticity of springs is that if they were going to become weak due to bending beyond a point that will permanently weaken them....they would do it upon the very first time the magazine is loaded. They do eventually wear out, but it takes a lot of use that occurs mostly from hardening related to compression and rebound.
  10. That is the only thread I am allowing to occur there and we are zapping anything that shows leaked info or pictures. It is in the forum's best interest not to tick the folks at Ruger off. We will know in a week or so who is right.
  11. Ohshoot is right That is why the GP,SP and Super Redhawk guns wear Hogue grips from the factory....to accomidate the new lock. ....unlike the smiths the ruger revolver IL can easily be permanently defeated and will not affect the function or appearance of the gun.
  12. That is about what I was going to say. My grandmother had something similar in Portland, TN when I was growing up. It was on her clothesline near the rain gauge and thermometer. I am sure I have it still in a box somewhere. I always thought it was cast iron, but it could have been brass.
  13. You will be hard pressed to find any one better than the Leahy's simply rugged pancakes. Simply Rugged Holsters The best pancake made.
  14. He sounds like a heck of a guy!
  15. Love'em or Hate'em - You can say one thing about Ruger firearms....100% USA made. I do believe some magazines on certain guns are European....so 99.96%
  16. It isn't a rumor. Ruger has actually been making 1911's for two decades or more though Pinetree Castings. They have a much more sophisticated facility than S&W, thus Tier1 comment above...they make some very surprising products for some very surprising companies (Porsche and NASA being two of them) There are two other guns that are coming out along with the 1911, but you won't hear from me what they are. One of them won't be unexpected....one will.
  17. They charge no tax and only $10 to ship....If you lived in the LA where they are located you would actually pay more for them. Doesn't get any easier than that.
  18. I use the cheapest, crappiest oil that I can buy at the auto store to change my oil in my car....every one of my cars under this plan has lasted me over 150,000 miles. The other stuff breaks before the engine starts to lose compression. I use ATF and Moly axle grease to lube my guns, and CLP to wipe them down. Have a couple of the 22 rifles that have been handed to 3 generations of shooters with many tens of thousands of rounds though them....They still look better than some of the guns my clumsy friends have had for just a couple of months.
  19. Ouch! Make that a 2-3 day rainy stretch
  20. All I have is the hammer types. FYI you can put a shellholder in the collet rather than the elastic adjustable jaws that comes in most pullers. On a rainy day and perfected technique you could can pull pretty quick. Wouldn't bat an eye to pull 50-100 in one sitting.

    Glock 38 and 39

It is actually a decent cartridge, but as mentioned it has not picked up in popularity and will be known forever as a "reloaders cartridge"
  22. The funeral was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. Not amazing as it is commonly used these days....life changing amazing. There were almost as many people behind me. Not one word was spoken from anyone. Lots of flags. Lots of thank you signs. I don't know how many police officers were there, but I believe that 15 states were represented. The officer sitting in front of me drove overnight from middle Florida (Orange County). The auditorium seated closed to 3000 and about half were police, fire, and military. The people lining the streets didn't even personally know the man, but were there to say thank you. There was a little boy about my son's age about midway down the parade with holding a little sign that he made that said "Thank you for you! Officer Chapin" A very, very humbling experience that I will simply never forget.
  23. If anyone wants Obama for 4 more years....A Trump or Palin (or even Trump/Palin) ticket is a sure fire way to make this happen. I will not vote for a Democrat in a presidential election, and check whoever is in the Republican running. If either one of these circus clowns is to the right of that republican box....Obama will win again. Believe this or not....But mark my words this is the situation at hand. You can refer back to this post after the election in a couple of years and I will gladly bake a crow pie to anyone who wants to try and prove me wrong.
