  1. It is very handy to know if you are a collector. I know people who collect certain firearms that are #100 off the assembly line for example. Also if looking for a matched set or palindrome number. Often tells model run or year of manufacture also.
  2. Front sight on ALL current ruger guns are either screwed on or interchangeable with inserts. Less than $10 and 5 minutes and the front sight can be gone.
  3. Phillips head screws are just wrong on a firearm.... Refinish job may be really nice, but the gun is what it is.
  4. Does Lyman still make that primer tool? --Hole punch and aluminum cans + snap caps = Primers
  5. That was GREAT!!
  6. Same here 165 and 180...depending on the gun.
  7. 22 LR ammo...Remington thunderbolt in particular, is filthy ammo.
  8. Heck....just check out the posts made here. All negative and all condescending.
  9. I wasn't referring to him.... That might not be a bad idea. Nobody's feelings are hurt and nobody believed that this was an all inclusive test. But thanks for pointing out that 250 rounds isn't the ultimate test of a true SD firearm...Not sure that anyone here would have thought of that.
  10. They are actually pretty good guns. They are inexpensive and offer nothing for the "gotta have it" crowd. Nothing wrong with them if people use them as hunting guns, but much anything over $100 is a stretch. Almost perfect for squirrel and rabbit. The rifled Savage bolt actions are mean machines...a 500 grain slug at 1400fps is no joke.
  11. Well - to his defense. If it was gonna stop that is when it would have done it. Here is a new flash...Police moved away from the platform because it is heavy and expensive. Not because some idiot on the internet says they are unreliable. And I am sure that there are more reliable platforms...glock is doing well right now with all their latest offerings and more than 50% of the police market :-)
  12. I have one just like that....it is about as sweet a shooter as I have ever owned. Love the external extractor, and I have noticed that the ones with the big SW1911 billboard on the side are a little tighter than the newer ones. If you are getting a decent price or trade I think you would not be any worse for wear if you picked it up. Here is mine....is a really really good gun and really loves my slower 200 grainers at 800fps or so. Can shoot it almost as good as my Ruger MKII. The bushing is tight, but there is some take up in the trigger....like most non-custom 1911s
  13. The funny thing is that if you eat enough heat - the other end gets used to it also. ...It still hurt though. My joints burned after that....knees and elbows.
  14. I grow habaneros and other hot peppers in my garden. I have so many and am so cheap that I eat them all rather than let them go to waste. Come september and october I have a pretty staggering tolerance to heat. I actually, on a bet, ate a hot wing covered with OC spray. It was damn hot, but I did get it down. Now I realize that I couldn't take it in the eyes or nostrils, but I can believe the story above about the thug/inlaw being able to do so. That being said I believe that I would prefer a barbless tazer if I had a choice in proving manliness. If I was being attacked by a bad guy....I would much rather face against someone with OC. For their sake they should hope to hit those eyes - small target.
  15. Beat me by 1 minute :-)
  16. Powder makes WONDERFUL fertilizer. Put it in the flower or veggie garden However it might still be in good shape. I still have a batch from an 8 pound drum that I have been using for more than a quarter century.
  17. It is certainly possible to blow up a gun without shooting a reload....Which much too often gets blamed everytime a gun explodes. brush still in the barrel, other obstruction, squib, etc. Honestly I have had more problems with factory ammo than any of my reloads.
  18. With such small case capacity....I don't understand how people can fill the case with so much powder it explodes....heck I could fill it to the brim with 748 and it still wouldn't burst in any spectacular fashion. Then again I am assuming that they are using a relatively slow rifle powder in the first place....not bullseye, titewad, or some other stupid fast pistol powder.....of which any would blow an AR up like a wet sack.
  19. I refuse to sell or buy from anyone requesting a bill of sale on a personal transaction...they can do business elsewhere IMHO. I don't know who they will sell it to or what happens to it after it leaves my hands....I sure don't want my name in the box 3 owners later if they do something bad with it. Just my honest opinion. As mentioned earler if you sell to someone and have no reason not to sell to them you are good. Simple TN DL or HCP is all you need to comfort your ego is something seems off.
  20. I got one...actually carry it in jacket weather. Got to play with an "E" model the other day..They really did a lot to that gun.
  21. Check also that the shell follower isn't catching on a bent/oblong magazine tube near the receiver side either. If the follower is dragging then it could prevent the shell from being pushed into the receiver. Isn't likely, but you will want to check.....just take out the spring and make sure the follower slides from one end to the other without stopping. It is more likely to be that the spring simply just doesn't have enough uumph after adding the extension.
  22. Actually....With a little time and elbow grease a hacksaw and a file (and some sandpaper) could do a pretty good job on it. You would be surprised what can be done with just the simplest of tools. Just takes a bit more time.
  23. I've got one. It is a bona-fide reloaders cartridge. You will get OK performance from factory ammo, but the variety offered by handloading is what makes that gun special. People also forget how accurate these guns are. Many will put a pound of lead in a golf ball at 150 yards You can load 300 grain plinkers with 2400 and send them along at 1400fps. Hits as hard as a 20 ga slug and is very accurate. You can load it up with a 405grain plug ahead of some RL-7 for 1900fps that would go though a grizzly...end to end. and a bunch of loads inbetween. If you spend a lot of time with it you will find that in this area a 350jhp at around 1700fps will do everything you need done....with gusto.
  24. What about the Bearcat? It isn't a single six and is a great shooter.
  25. Well...It was well thought out and does deserve a place in the history book unlike other drivel that for some reason is a "classic." Everyone who reads should at least give it a shot. I just didn't take it as a real life proposition as many people do. More of a caricature in the same genre of 1984. My favorite summary of the book goes like this.
