Mini's are pretty unique in that everything in the bolt is held together by one single pin that is a leg of the extractor. All hell breaks lose when you get this thing out and aren't expecting it. It is equally as difficult to get it back in working order unless you have gone through an armorer course or studied the gun in depth. My guess is that the person doing the firing pin fitting (no fault of his own...these parts are infrequently broken and not repaired often) put everything back and that extractor is the source of the problem. The firing pin likely isn't the problem. Because the cam action of the bolt in the receiver and charging handle are separate sub assemblies that wouldn't go together at all if they weren't right you can count them as working also if the bolt closes. You can even go so far as confirming the trigger group is not binding if you can get it free from the gun in its current state. The action is patterned after the M-1 Garand the hammer can fall even if the bolt is not closed. My guess is that the extractor may be slightly bound preventing the bolt from falling 100% in battery and the hammer is smacking it harder into this bound position jamming things up. Unless you want to play Mini bolt jujitsu...I am sure that the person who fitted it will fix it no questions asked. Do not let him tell you that dry firing the gun was the culprit and you are somehow at fault for letting a hammer fall on an empty chamber....not even remotely true

Whoever told you this....be wary of any advice they give as it is heresay and not experience talking

There are actually a couple in legal, private hands if I remember correctly. 2 of them at Knob creek a while back. You can own one, but you will pay very dearly for it.

45-70 cast bullet loads & others
I_Like_Pie replied to glockster157's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Don't forget the .30-30 either. It is one of the best cast bullet chamberings made. 150 or 170 grainers at the same 1400-1500 fps hits harder than a .357 and is very accurate at mid-distance due to a pretty good sectional density. Any of the .223 powders work great in it. It is an excellent cartridge for cast bullets that many people have forgotten about as it is primarily a deer gun. -
45-70 cast bullet loads & others
I_Like_Pie replied to glockster157's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I do. My favorite load with those cast 405 grainers is 1.9cc of 2400 powder. This comes to 25.6 grains. The Lyman 46th edition has a great set of 45/70 loads. I use it in my guide gun. It clocks at around 1450-1500fps. It hits silhouettes at 75 yards H-A-R-D and is also a great pig/deer stopper. Will do 1.1" at 100 yards with a Leupold 2-7 Have to agree that the 45/70 at mid-range loads is about the most fun you can have shooting. -
There is one that I saw a while back (Evil girlfriend...or something) that had the lady getting revenge for something like this. She got a pat of butter and rubbed it all over the bathroom floor while her better half was in the shower. He hit the floor HARD! Red Dot reccomendations for a Tacticool Shotgun...
I_Like_Pie replied to bassmaster's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I am partial to Ultra Dot....With respect to durability I would put against anything, any time, any day. Trijicon and those big $$$ ones are nice for sure, but how many of them would hold up to being mounted on a 1911 slide? It is standard practice for Ultradot. -
With enough work and know how any revolver can be made slick as butter....well maybe not an old Nagat or Webly, but you get the drift. Give me 20 minutes with any S&W or Ruger and one would be surprised how nice they can be slicked up.

Here's the scoop...the 327 was designed to allow more capacity. So Take any of those 357 loads and figure up the energy --Multiply that number by 5 Now take the 327 loads and do the same --multiply this number by 6 This is why the 327 was being pushed as a SD improvement. The chambering is in a whole new realm as a long barrel or single action cartridge.

Because you know enough about both calibers to tell the difference

Not equal - comparable....Wikipedia is not the most reliable of sources. Heck - at one time I actually wrote many of those articles myself. There is also a huge fallacy in comparing factory loads. Many cartridges simply are better handloaded. 44 mag, 45 colt, and 45/70 are prime examples. The 32 line of guns also falls into this realm. A 32 single six can be loaded a bit zippier than a factory 32 H&R load. As mentioned above...barrel length plays a lot here. With the same 357 load I can get 1200fps out of my SP-101 and almost 1800 out of my carbine. Look at what that does to energy.

To the world of re loaders it is a great cartridge. To the folks who don't reload...you answer your own questions with "why is this chambered in these guns" It has never been for mainstream folks who don't reload. They can use other calibers to fit the bill. It is perfect for wolves, rabbits, raccoons, plinking, and self defense. Also. Do the math - It is right up there with .357 and yes it kicks like one too. These new guns can shoot 4 different calibers spanning a century. The blackhawk is 7 or 8 shot if I remember correctly.

It wasn't always a bad place. I actually went to school to study economics in London in the 90's before Ken Livingston and his socialist party took over London and Labor took over the commons. The beer was good, the public transportation was excellent, and the people were wonderful. It wasn't a bad place then. Now you couldn't pay me enough to go there. Things really took a turn for the worse very, very fast. People can't do anything about it because they aren't in control of their own destiny. My co-worker is the controller for our UK subsidiary there and I truly feel sorry for him. They are actually having problems in his unit because the work ethic is so different. They simply don't work as hard as we do.

Powder recommendations for 45acp & 380
I_Like_Pie replied to JG55's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Bullseye FWIW...this is the powder for the factory .45 ball loads for over half a century -
Did you Rust or salt blue it? ...I thought about rust bluing one, but was apprehensive about all the nooks and crannies. Looks great!

Not knocking the semi autos in any way as I own quite a few. Was ogling a sig p238 the other day -but- This, my friends, is why I carry 13 ounce revolver. It goes bang *5 every single time. Will do so every day from now until I am too old to carry.

$500...My vote is the best bang for the buck possible. -2 tickets to a movie or fun event -2 tickets to a nice dinner -Some flowers for the lady -a car wash -a haircut -maybe a pair of inexpensive, but nice earrings in her favorite color -Set the stage and let her know a couple of days ahead of time. - Like a drink?....some nice Appleton VX rum to sip after a hard day You are up to around $150-$200. Any of the stains here who say this is not money well spent is doing something wrong. This will give you $300 - $350 left. Keep patient and pick up a good condition, older model, pre lock Smith and Wesson .38 and a box of ammo. Or maybe a Blackhawk or Single Six. Something that one day will be passed onto your child...who may very well be brought into existance if above steps have been taken :-) We lose sight, as gun lovers, how much money is dumped into our hobby. It is healthy to step back to the real world and invest every now and then into something that will give much more satisfaction than blued steel, walnut, and the smell of powder.

FWIW...Neither one are posted. I have only seen one No carry sign at any Chattanooga establishment period...The hospitals. Not saying they don't exist. Just saying that it is a very carry friendly town. If OP wants the true Chattanooga experience then Downtown is the way to do it. Comedy Catch is right through the tunnels and a straight shot to the downtown area. if you are there on the weekend there may be all sorts of stuff going on at the parks, aquarium area, and riverfront. One warning though is that the cold really puts a damper on things. The main walking bridge connecting the best park to downtown is currently closed for repair. The parks won't have any festivals.

Eeek...Three really aren't any in walking distance that you want to be near. Not a particularly terrible part of town. Just not near the typical hotspots and you don't want to get lost there at night. You will likely want one closer to hamilton place mall...which is on the same road a couple of miles going eastward (There is a Sportsman's Warehouse at the midpoint worth checking out) or You can go the other directions an equal distance and be right smack in the middle of Downtown...which has all sorts of neat things to do before and after your show. Depends on who you are traveling with and what they want to do. Downtown has all sorts of kid friendly stuff but will cost more. Hamilton Place has all sorts of retail stuff and eateries but will be cheaper.

I still don't think we have established the fact to some people that that - Glock, efficient as they may be, does NOT only have only $25 dollars in each gun. That may be the price of the metal and plastic in raw state from a supplier. You folks are smoking something if you think that is all they have sunk as cost. Heck...there was a lawsuit where the man himself had to disclose the amount in each gun and it was approaching 7 times that much.
-
"Can" is the operative word...meaning that the potential is there. I've seen some that couldn't do 6" at 100 yards - wrong bullet, wrong twist, and bad shooter. The gun was capable of 1" if everything fired was done correctly.
-
They are all good guns. Honestly the discussions about which one is "best" is pretty stupid without consideration of the person doing the shooting. Otherwise it is just seeing who can pee the farthest.

Major Kong Cool buildI have seen several set ups like yours where people have mounted drawer slides on the bottom to where they could slide out for easy access.
