TN Parent Arrested Trying to Pick Up His Own Kids
tnguy replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Not what I said. I merely said that if there was a single collection point, walking up to it could be seen as jumping the line. What if someone on a motorcycle did so? How about if a passenger ten cars back gets out and walks to the front? What if someone is a bit slow leaves a gap and someone in a small car zips in? With that said, the sane thing is to have a procedure to allow parents who walk up to release their children. Meh, I dunno. When I was at school, at the end of the day, you either left (most people walked or cycled) or waited for your parent on your own recognizance. Much about modern schooling makes me scratch my head. -
TN Parent Arrested Trying to Pick Up His Own Kids

Arguably if it was at the regular pickup place, he jumped the line. But it seems like releasing kids to walking parents should be something that could be accommodated if it keeps traffic off the road. He should not have been arrested. -
I was tempted to go through that point by point with wittily written comments but it's just simply not worth it. They even get the wording of 2A wrong in their point #1. And I'm not aware that Trayvon the thug was shot at a sporting event. It seems like they got what they wanted with #10 though. Where is my .22lr?

That would mean all I have to do to have the lower qualify as a pistol is assemble it without the stock attached? I think I need to do some more reading on this :)

They have the power to establish post offices but perhaps not the requirement. I know Amazon has been making sounds about going to same-day delivery. I don't know if that could relate to it, seems unlikely but maybe. I would think they'd be using their own service in that case.

Thinking of starting out with a pistol upper just so I can have a pistol first (plus it would be cool to have for later builds). I don't really want to use my CMT upper for the job as I figure I'll use that for a rifle and don't want to mess it up switching the barrels out. Good deal here? http://www.model1sales.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=334 Or should I build from scratch?

Trying to play the Walmart .22 game
tnguy replied to theTastyCat's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
It's not all about selling the product else there wouldn't be a three box limit. I think everyone's just hoping it goes back to normal soon. -
It would depend on the circumstance. If bridges are passable, use them. Railway bridges may be empty (but that's risky). You might be able to pay someone with a boat. In the worst case, you do what needs to be done. I don't know enough about the Mississippi or other rivers to know if they would be swimmable but I'd be very wary about any kind of swiftly moving water. Especially if there's any kind of hazard downstream.

One other thing is that certain aspects of the post office's business are given monopoly protection by the government. I won't make direct comment on that as there are two sides to that discussion, just means it's even more of a mess.

I'd have probably bid but I already have one.

You probably don't want the full book either. Just a map of the local area along your route home. Planning may be key and GPSs tend to be less helpful at that than a paper map. Make sure you know how to read it and triangulate your position too.

Fortunately no buyer's fee. Just got back from collecting the gun and no mag so even more money. No doubt I did not get a good deal but not too terribly bad so meh.

I'm not sure what electronics are in that scooter but some types of electronics will not be affected by EMP. I would say that anything that can't be manually powered is possibly not a good idea though. Also, as a trike, it would be a lot less maneuverable.

Yep. Can't get my kind of work in this area but if I moved closer to work, I'd be working to pay for the higher priced house so I could be close to work. Something screwy about that to my mind.

An off-site cache might also be an option. Then all you need is a small shovel.

Small wheels are an issue. I have a folding bike and even its 20" wheels are less stable than a full sized bicycle. They also absorb bumps and dips less well.

Pfft, nonsense. Unless the cable is complete trash, it'll be good enough. I buy all my hdmi cables off ebay as cheap as I can get them and not one hasn't been up to the job. +1 on Vizio too. Ours must be five years old now and has been faultless.

As far as I know, the hydra-shoks are good ammo. I ran some through my 40 a couple of times when I still had it. Too expensive to run through regularly though.

Anyone else go to this yesterday? They didn't have much I was interested in. The couple that I was went higher than I wanted to pay. I did end up buying a cheapy gun just to have around. There were a few that would have been interesting if I had cash to blow. I found it interesting that there were almost no "ugly black guns". Anyone know if they were selected out beforehand? Mostly just regular shotguns and rifles in the long-guns. I also found it amusing that the wooden stocked SKS went for 150 but the couple that had folding stocks went for north of 300 apiece. I don't think there were many bargains to be had, particularly when you factor in the background check ($30).

An almost amusing aspect is that the resellers' financial plan forces them to buy more and more ammo to keep the shelves empty even as things start to return to normal. As soon as they stop (and they will have to sooner or later), they are left with a load of stock that can't be sold for above (or even at) retail prices. Serve them right. -
It doesn't even have to be total societal collapse. Remember Katrina and the lines at the pump? I try to make sure I always have enough in the tank to get home but that doesn't always work out. And it would only take a few people driving until completely empty to completely snarl the roads up. Society isn't likely to collapse immediately so I'm just aiming to get home as smoothly and comfortably as possible should driving not be an option. Though if things start looking shaky beforehand, I may throw a folding bicycle in the car. That would drastically cut travel time but would mean using the regular roads.
