    The "Get Home" Gun

Since we've moved away from the "get home gun" thing a little, something else to consider might be a paper map. I know my driving route is definitely not the shortest and may not be the smartest way home.
  2. If they were just making money on your (or my) money, I have no problem with that. It's when they print money and give it to the banks to lend out, both debasing the currency and also damaging savings by forcing interest rates to be artificially low that I have issues. All this money floating around causes bubbles also which ultimately pop (c.f. dotcom boom, housing bubble and others), further taking value from the pockets of the general populous. The population of the US (and other countries) are being robbed blind. Good for you that you are doing well. I'm not doing so bad myself. But whereas a rising tide lifts all boats, a lowered tide just stinks. End the fed, slash regulations and let's see real free markets.
  3. The rich and the wealthy are helping themselves to your money. OK, that sounds kinda anti-capitalist. I'm not. But there's a cadre of people and companies that grow fat through no other reason than that they have their snouts in the right trough. That's a club that the likes of you and I won't be able to obtain membership to. TNS is absolutely correct about the currency debasement.
  4. Yuengling is the only lager I've found drinkable.
  5. Sidewinder, they are out there. A bit rich for my blood...
  6.   He still needs to tune that up a little. Take away all the guns and a lot more people are going to become acquainted with the business end of a machete.
  7.   Sometimes you just have to do the right thing. Often it benefits you in ways that are hard to see coming when you do it. The Republicans have tried to "box clever" for too long and it has failed them (and the country) over and over again. Largely because they (not all of them but enough) temper their decisions with greed and thoughts of the next election and partly because they're just not smart enough to play their game.   Ideally, the test for initiating impeachment would be "Do we think he's done impeachable things?". Unfortunately, that doesn't fly.   Personally, I am still pretty outraged over Benghazi and I think it's a betrayal that that hasn't been split wide open. That Holder is still in place after Fast and Furious is just incredulous to me and implies some really serious problems with what is going on. Obamacare is almost a sideshow in comparison in my opinion.
  8.   I'd argue that what has been going on with the IRS flies damn close to the first of those statements. The following three are not without their spots either.   I'm not sure with regards to impeachment. On the one hand, it will, without doubt, fail in the senate. So it's a matter of judgement as to what ends attempting it might serve. At this point, I'd almost say it was worth it but the Republicans have such a bad track record of pulling defeat from the jaws of victory.
  9.   A lot of people can't do comedy correctly. They see a satire site like "The Onion" and think that "Just making up shit" is enough. Then they get all butt-hurt when criticized.
  10.   I always print my 3d guns with the safety on.
  11. Did the guy upstairs ever find out that the guy downstairs was shooting at him?
  12. Seriously? It's true that the US /finally/ have some good beers going on but most still drink the piss that is Bud and Miller.

    The "Get Home" Gun

Absolutely. Someone may not appreciate their food being stolen. When the SHTF, people are going to go into protective mode quickly and sometimes, you just don't know who is really willing to protect what they have to the limit. This is a stupidly risky idea, especially just for a get-yourself-home scenario and despicable to boot. The human body can go for a long time without food and likely all you would ideally need was something to keep your energy up for the journey. Cereal bars, a can of chili, hard candy... anything really that can cope with long-term storage.
  14. Contains substances known to the state of California...
  15. Just picked up the Beaman Kodiak last night and took it out the backyard to do some sighting in. Fun. One word for anyone not familiar with air rifles though, "dieseling". Had two cracks so loud I thought I was going to be experiencing lights & sirens. It settled down after that though.
  16. Could it be that where the recent buying frenzy may have caused reputable manufacturers to lower their quality standards little to none, for the less reputable manufacturers, it has become "Katy bar the door" and they're shovelling them out as fast as they can?
  17. I kinda missed the email (I was looking out for a PM) but fortunately chased it up in time.
  18. It was probably just too hard to maintain high levels of camp whilst he was there.
  19. Not here yet. But I know it has to be soon.
  20. I would think a revolver would fire if cocked but I don't have one to check (I'm more a semi guy myself but I don't claim that's right for everybody). The hammerless design of the LCR makes this not an option as far as I can tell.
  21. I just pulled my wife's LCR and if the cylinder is restrained, it will not fire at all. As the rotation is part of the firing, the trigger won't even move back. All my semis will fire at least once. Not that I'm saying one over the other. Just setting facts straight.
  22. Not going to be much time at that distance. I would think step 1 is to have adequate medical supplies on hand and make sure that at least one or two people in the office are trained in first aid. This is probably a good idea in any event. I like the ideas for barriers. I'm sure someone probably makes desks with flip-up ones or maybe a desk pad with a sheet of steel embedded. As to a weapon, I'm not sure. On you person seems likely the best bet. It increases access time but it will always be with you. Say if you were in the bathroom or elsewhere in the building and the shooting started... Some of this will be dependent on the layout of your offices and other factors. Of course, nobody says you have to have just one. Peejman's suggestion of an ejector seat is clearly ridiculous. A button under the desk that opens a trapdoor to a pit of sharks is a much better idea.
  23.   Hmm. Interesting. I've seen it work on other forums using similar software but I can believe this specific software could be that way. One trick I have found works on a couple of images where the image link has ended in a / is just to make up a name to stick on the end. The web server at the other end ignores the image name and still sends out the image and the forum software allows the link since it has an allowable extension. This works less than 50% of the time however :(   If it can't be changed, there's not much more discussion to be had. Thanks for replying.
  24.   With the proviso that this is not what the topic of this thread is about, I will say that on other boards I'm on that do image hosting, it *typically* isn't an issue with regard to size or performance. Not that I'm pushing for hosting.   Now, there have been security issues. Bitcointalk was recently hacked and the vector was believed to have been a script disguised as an image. Note that it did have an extension that is accepted as an image type here so it doesn't have any bearing on the original topic. Extensions really don't have much meaning on the web (they're pretty much a Microsoft thing in the first place).
