  1. Welcome to TGO. Does Benton still run their famous speed traps on 411?
  2. The robbers definitely underestimated the business owner. Our office used to be in the building next door to this jewelry store, makes you think.   What kind of low life targets someone in a wheelchair. Guess they figured wrong.   +1 for the good guys.
  3. Sounds like propaganda to me, heard that stuff back in the '90's as well, did not see it then, don't see it now either. I see no indications of a coming race war in the areas of East TN that I frequent and with the different races of folks that I encounter.   I don't think I live a sheltered life but maybe so. I live in a rural area of Blount County but I spend a fair amount of time in the inner city area of Knoxville at the Greyhound Bus Station, for my work and I interact with people of all colors and all walks of life while there and I am not seeing it. I go over there at all hours of the day and night to work on the buses and believe me I see all types of things going on in and around that area but nothing hinting toward a race war. I have seen my share of people acting up and leaving there in cuffs and I see just as many whites as blacks. Drunks, gangs, convicts fresh out of prison, homeless, drug dealers, pimps, hookers, etc. you name it. What I have not seen is anything racist.   I agree with Glock55's post.
  4. Possible can of worms opening after reading the last few posts. Oh well, it makes for an interesting discussion.
  5. The thought of having a long gun visible in a window rack in the pickup would concern me. It might be too tempting for someone to break the window and steal it when your truck was parked and not sure I would want the extra attention.   Do you have a locking rack? Sometimes I would not mind having the AR in the vehicle but I would not like for it to be visible. The vehicles I generally drive are not very high security, old pickups locks don't work good, so I am not sure about leaving long guns in there unattended, especially in plain sight.   I believe in the "shall not be infringed", but I do not see my self carrying a long gun in public under normal circumstances. Vehicle maybe, but just walking around in public probably not. I have an hcp but have never carried the long gun in my vehicle yet, but you never now.
  6. I just wait until after dark and pour some gas down their hole, about a cup full. I checked the hole the next day and found no activity. I stomped a walnut down in the hole for to plug it off for good measure.   I have noticed a lot more yellow jackets around my property this year. I found a nest in the end of a log while weedeating, they got me 6 times.
  7. Here ya go Red.    http://www.rguns.net/   http://www.surplusammo.com/   http://palmettostatearmory.com/
  8. +1 on checking PSA daily deals, I have snagged a few deals from them lately. I bought a complete upper from RGuns last year and the quality and price were good and it shipped fast. Surplus Ammo had some decent prices on complete uppers also, I have never dealt with them.
  9. Glad nobody was hurt. We all can use a safety reminder, thanks for posting this. The bigger man admits his mistake and learns from it and passes it on for others to learn from it as well.  I have been working with my nephew about gun safety and I will mention this to him next time we shoot.   "To make no mistakes is not in the power of man; but from their errors and mistakes the wise and good learn wisdom for the future." - Plutarch
  10. I think local governments have had access to military surplus either free or almost free, like $1, for decades.   An example that comes to mind are M37 trucks, duece & 1/2's, cucv's. I have seen these units in service by local county & state agencies for a long time. Fire dept, law enforcement, forest service, hwy dept, etc. I have not seen any MRAPs running around Blount County.    In the winter time I always know if the snow plow is coming because I hear it for several minutes before seeing it, the county hwy dept plows my road with an old duece & 1/2. Could not say on the other items that are not as visible.   I don't see a conspiracy brewing in obsolete military equipment being offered to local governments but to each their own. If anything I see it as a good thing to have such equipment transfer from federal government control and into local hands.
  11. I live in East TN and there is a facility like that right down the road from me here in Louisville, TN. Peninsula Village, http://www.villagebh.com/. We live out i the country and my road dead ends at the lake and that is where this place is located, it has been around for many years, at least 35 years that I know of.   I have not heard anything bad about them. I had a former employee who had went through treatment there for some problems he was going through. He had positive results afterward.   As the others have said school counselors or local juvenile departments might have referrals. Also a pastor or church youth leader may be able to refer you.   I know you are looking at Middle TN but this might be an option for you if you don't find anything closer to you. Thoughts and prayers go out for you and the child during this tough time you are going through.
  12. A firm NO on the Governator! I think Hillary was born on an alien spacecraft, maybe that can disqualify her from running.   Whatever happened to prominent military men running for office later in their careers instead of these "career" politicians?
  13. Welcome to TGO from across the river in Blount County.
  14. Looks like I know what I'll be doing next spring. I have an old section of deck, 11 years, and a new section so I want to do something like this to make it all match as well as protecting it.   I was also concerned how it feel on bare feet since it is around the pool.    Looks good Sam1, thanks for the report.
  15. Nice looking boat. Good luck with your restoration, what you have done looks real good. Glad you can fix it up and keep it since it has been in the family for a while.   I owned a boat once.....better stop with that story, too many negative waves, I don't want to spoil your fun.
  16. I feel for you Spots. You never know some of the items may turn up. I have been through this a few times myself and twice I got all the items back.   You can imagine how surprised I was to get a phone call from KPD saying they had recovered my safe from my business and it was unopened. Of course they had taken their time processing it,4 months, but I wasn't about to complain. The other time I was able to interrogate an employee until he finally admitted stealing some items and told me which pawn shop they were at. The kicker to that story is that I had to pay the pawn fees to get them back and then the court will make him pay restitution back to me. It was only $85 but they project it will be 5 years before I will see the money because they have him making weekly payments to the court for fines, costs, etc. and they get their money first and I get mine last, their exact words.
  17. Several SHTF uses:  water storage, bunker, ammo cache, etc. I am thinking the pirate thing or the oil change idea could be good as well.   Our above ground has not been much trouble at all. I probably just jinxed it by saying that.    I'd say if you don't like pools pick another house so you don't have to deal with it.
  18. I think they just offered the bolt at a discounted rate for TGO members to go along with their uppers & lowers. The price is lower than you will see for lesser quality ones on other websites. I have seen them going for $129 to $179 & up on other websites. Some cheapo ones might be less than $100. I am no AR expert by any means but $116 looked like a good price.
  19. Placed my order today. I got 2 lowers, 1 upper, 1 bolt. Great deal all around and I am glad we are supporting a TN business.   As for the polymer lowers I would say you could just free hand the logo with a soldering iron. I own a polymer lower on a budget build I did last year and it is ok for what it is and I have had no problems with it but I would not even compare it in the same league as these billet lowers. Apples & oranges. Just my 2 cents.
  20. Sweet rifles. You came up on some real finds there. They all look very nice but that Marlin really caught my eye.   I was just out shooting my old Remington Model 41 yesterday with my son and nephew. It was my dad's rifle when he was growing up, he is 75 years old now. I will have to ask him if it was new when he got it or if it was passed down to him. Nothing beats the old .22's for some fun shooting.
  21. I think the others have covered the issues concerning self defense and hcp. I was just going to add that you might consider a no trespassing sign at the gate. In the event someone is on your property this would aid law enforcement in charging the trespasser. It also might act as a deterrent.   I have a neighbor who has just went through an incident where a neighbor came on to her property and threatened her and after she left he went back on her property and killed her puppy that was in a kennel.
  22. I forgot to mention one other thing to keep on hand that has a multitude of uses. Apple cider vinegar.
  23. Welcome to TN & TGO, glad to have you. I have lived in TN all my life but I am a newcomer to the forums. Congrats on making your way South.
