  1. Murfreesboro is clearing up decently.  The sunlight today helped the roads, and they're a lot better than yesterday.  I'll probably have to go to class tomorrow.
  2. The guy is a double idiot.  He lives in NJ, so he should know any gun is more or less a no-go...then consenting to a search of his car was stupid as well.  I'm also curious as to why the gun was in his glove compartment, and not at home.  He's obviously not defending himself with it, was he on his way to a sale or something?    Not saying he deserves what he is getting, but situational awareness goes a long way.  I hope he gets 12 people that believe in jury nullification to decide his fate.
  3. This is a big issue.  I would expect to see a big fight from those who claim to support and fight for gun rights in Congress, in the lobbying sphere, and from the community.  Restricting ammo is just workaround to restricting guns.  It goes back to my principle of, if a police officer or Soldier have it available, so should the citizen.   A couple points on all this, some of which are echoes, but need to be restated...   1) Should we move this thread to a more visible area?  I only noticed it myself last night before bed.  Since I don't do my own reloading and shoot the same basic ammo, I don't have much use for this area.  Getting it into General Chat, or 2nd Amendment Issues would give it more visibility.   2)  Email your member of Congress.  Sending snail mail will take 6-8 weeks to hit their offices with the screenings for anthrax and whatever other testing they subject letters to at the capital, so it is less effective.  I plan to have my emails drafted and sent by the end of the day to both Senators and my Congressman.   3)  Also email whatever pro gun groups you are a member of.  Something like this is why they exist, in theory.  If they are like the NRA, let them know you are watching their actions on this, and expect them to leverage whatever political capital they have to draft and pass legislation to prevent BAFTE from doing this.  The ILA flexed their muscles when the expanded background check bill was coming up for a vote; I think the banning of ammo is far worse for gun owners.  For my part, I'm going to ask the 2nd Amendment Foundation if their legal team believes they could bring a lawsuit should this come to pass.
  4.   I'm still working with the spool of 550 cord I left the Army with.
  5. Still raining a bit here in Murfreesboro, and the temps are going to drop quick now that it's nighttime.  I wouldn't be surprised if MTSU is closed tomorrow as well since the ice will be piling up...correction, MTSU just sent out the alert text saying they are closed tomorrow.
  6. For those who want to make a rifle from the past with an A2 style upper, this site might be where you can look for your parts.  Not sure about how the prices compare to other sources out there, but figured I would share it anyway. http://www.model1sales.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=414   They also have full uppers in the A2 style if you look around on the site.
  7. I have beer and chilli to survive on if needs be.  I think I'll be happier and warmer than the bread and milk crowd.
  8. Thanks, David.  Every time I look out the window today, that song will pop into my head.
  9.   I was just looking at some of their jeans online...please tell me those prices are in Guatemalan Quetzals, not US Dollars.

    Real Snow

Murfreesboro has a ice, and if there was any snow, it didn't stick.  Stepped outside the back door for a moment and felt how slick it was outside, and it's that annoying, still slick on top ice that can screw a lot of things up fast.  It's bad enough in our area that MTSU closed the university for the day, and that doesn't happen for nothing.
  11.   Ditto.  Levi's just don't fit right, and unlike President Johnson, I can't call up for a custom job and tell them to add room from "where the zipper ends, back to my bunghole."   The relax straight Wrangler's at WalMart fit pretty good, though, so I'll stick with them until I find a better brand.
  12.   The amount of the fine isn't what concerns me, it's a situation like getting into a car crash and being stuck with a hospital bill that puts me in the poor house after wiping out my savings and investments.  When I was working overseas, I was covered under the Defense Base Act by my contract.  Now that it's just me, myself and I, a bit of protection is needed.
  13.   It's a '"regular" plan, not a catastrophic one from Blue Cross, Blue Shield of TN through healthcare.gov.  I just quoted the hospital stay stuff to get comments because that's all I plan to use it for unless I need to spend time with a urologist again.  No sense going through insurance and all the associated paperwork when all I have to do is make an appointment with MTSU Health Services for routine visits and what not.  It's really to make sure a hospital visit after a car crash doesn't bankrupt me.   I have enough in the rainy day fund to cover the max out of pocket, which was my biggest concern.   Thanks, brother.
  14. Keep sharing links, and we'll need a QVC forum set up.

    Real Snow

Whatever snow stories anybody has, my father will top them with one from the Blizzard of '78.  I joke with him that I'm going to include "Survived the Blizzard of '78" into his eulogy when the time comes.  That's how often he mentions it.
  16. Only if someone buys them.   I liked Forest Gump a lot and think Tom Hanks is a great actor, but I'm not paying any money for his signature.
  17.   Can you post or PM me who you used?  I've been quoted at $150 a month for a bronze plan, based on my low income.  I looked through USAA first to see if any of there partners would work, and their lowest was $239 a month.
  18.   I'm looking through the Federal Exchange for a plan since being a college student with only a small on-campus job leaves me with no real options.  Playing 20 questions will have me on the phone with somebody reading from a script.  I really only need the emergency services and hospital coverage.  Everything else I'll just do with my doctor on campus.

    Real Snow

All I'm saying is sometimes circumstance or family commitments make the choice for you, and then it's not much of a choice at all.  Certainly not what I would call a choice.  My Uncle would have been wearing t-shirts during the winter in Florida a few years ago, but he wasn't about to leave his Mother and brother alone and in bad health.

    Real Snow

David, did you make that meme, or was it already somewhere?  That's the way I roll my eyes when the news makes the lead story the weather and people go out and buy a weeks worth of supplies to tide them over...all because of a 3" dusting that is inbound. :)       My aunt and uncle are moving to Florida this summer since my Uncle's mother and brother passed away in the last year.  Needless to say, they aren't exactly thrilled that their last winter in Mass was this bad and are looking forward to next years in retirement land.     Not everybody can just pack up and move to greener pastures.  Money reasons, not wanting to leave family, or loose a steady job....plenty of reasons to stay put and put up with it all.
  21. As a full time student, I can use student health services for most things, and actually really like the doctor there.  I do know I should probably get insurance for car accidents or the like.  Funny thing is, a "bronze" plan is cheaper than catastrophic insurance.    I fully admit I'm dumb at all the talk about health plans.  Can somebody explain what this all means?  The plan has a deductible of $5,200 and an out of pocket maximum of $6,400.  Would any bill for hospital services cap at $6,400 then?    Hospital services Emergency room care 50% Coinsurance after deductible In-Network 50% Coinsurance after deductible Out-of-Network Limits and Exclusions Apply   Inpatient doctor and surgical services 50% Coinsurance after deductible In-Network 50% Coinsurance after deductible Out-of-Network Limits and Exclusions Apply   Inpatient hospital services (like a hospital stay) 50% Coinsurance after deductible In-Network 50% Coinsurance after deductible Out-of-Network Limits and Exclusions Apply

    Real Snow

Haha, same here.  Both so I can enjoy how people react, and because I think the kids deserve some fun in the winter, not just the cold temperatures.    Snow days were awesome for me growing up.  I remember waking up, going to the window and loving the sight of my yard being covered in snow.  After shoveling the sidewalk, and sometimes making a few bucks doing it for others, my friends and I would trudge to the park and play full tackle football since we had jackets for pads and snow for soft landings.

    Real Snow

As you have probably seen in the news, the Northeast, with the Boston area in particular, has been absolutely drop-kicked this year by snow. This is a picture of what it looks like outside my cousins house. She lives just outside of Boston. My other cousin (her brother) came up from Connecticut to help clear out what they can before another foot of snow expected tonight comes in. So when middle Tennessee get's those measly 3-5" predicted in a few days, view this and save your bitching. ;)
  24. I agree with David. Personal space is an absolute for me when it comes to strangers.  Thankfully, being just over 6' tall, not skinny in the least, and sporting a natural scowl, people seem to get the message from my body language.   Giving some stranger a bro hug, just because... is a stupid idea.
  25.   +1 on Walther.  I've had my P99 in .40S&W for almost 11 years now.  I can only imagine the 9mm is just as high quality, and if I ever switch to a 9mm, it will probably be that.  Finding quality holsters is hit or miss, however.
