  1. Well, that's part of the problem with written communication on a forum that is conducted while at work no less. You're right in saying that you'll not change my mind about how Reagan did relatively nothing about the Beirut bombing. Well, they DID courtmartial the commanding general for doing the best he could under the contraints given to him by Reagan, et al, and thus made him the excape goat for the administration. I guess that's something. I'd have been willing to wager that sending a few cruise missles into Damascus and into the Ayatollah Khomeni's palace would have shut them up just as it did Gaddafi when we bombed his palace.
  2. It's not "these people" that I'm angry at. It applies anywhere to include Afghanistan. I'm not advocating the carpet bombing of every city in the country, but if you stay close to a military target then the consequences are on you. If you invite uncle Abdul the terrorist for lunch then you get a rocket up your ass too.
  3. It doesn't apply to anything other than the co-signer and their home. They can't just go barging into every home on the block looking for someone. If they barge into the wrong home then they are burglars.
  4. That defies common sense, Robert. Agreed that it's a sheep mentality, but a sheep can't complain when it suffers the consequences of a sheepish choice. Move! They are called refugees, and as you see everywhere the refugees outnumber the combatants in every case. You think they are going to use their ammo on sheep when the enemy is at the door? I doubt it.
  5. Well, the job is not without risks and is mostly unregulated. These kinds of stories do not surprise me.
  6. That's funny right there! :)
  7. I did a LITTLE bounty-hunting after I left the police department and was in school, but it was in Missouri yet I still agree with this. If your home is listed as the home of the bail-jumper or as a co-signer for him/her, you pretty much so give up your rights. They can come back repeatedly until the person is apprehended.
  8. What we fight today is not war, IMHO, and that includes Afghanistan. War is uncivilized by nature yet we try to civilize it. We haven't fought a war since WWII. Even Israel is trying to civilize war lately with their refusing to destroy a rocket-launching site because it was sitting atop an apartment building. You see, true innocents don't live next to a rocket-launcher. They either cause the rocket-launcher to be moved or they move away from it. If you house a combatant then you are no longer a non-combatant, and neither are your loved ones.
  9. I'm not blaming him for the attacks; I'm blaming him for letting them go unpunished. My unit, along with the rest of the Marine Corps, was packed and ready to go make Iran a smoldering wasteland via Syria and Lebanon the very next day, but old Ronnie Raygun stood us down. After all, only 218 Marines and some soldiers and sailors were no big deal back then, right? Does that sound harsh? After all, that was the mindset of the country towards its military after Vietnam. Today's attitude towards our military is nothing like it was in the 70's and 80's. To this day I get a little weirded-out when someone thanks me for my service. If I feel that I certainly can understand how my older brothers in arms that fought in Vietnam feel about it too.   I guarantee you that had we gone to war we wouldn't be having near the problems that we are having today out of those countries. Attacks like the Cole and others would probably not occurred had we done so. Saddam would not have been "installed" in Iraq to fight a proxy war and then bite us in the ass later. The Muslims only respect a decent ass-kicking.
  10. Mostly, I remember how he let a bunch of fellow Marines, some soldiers, and a couple of sailors get blown to smithereens by an Iranian-backed Hezbollah prick and do nothing about it. I further remember the Marines patrolling Beirut doing so with unloaded weapons. Yeah, he was a saint.
  11. Correct. If a person spontaneously confesses then too bad for them. If they run their mouth after the warning then too bad for them. If they invoke their right to remain silent and the LEO asks further questions about the crime then too bad for the LEO. This is where it can get tricky: if you, as a LEO and without the warning given, were to ask someone, "Do you know who killed that person?" and they say that they did it then too bad for them, but if you say "You killed this person, didn't you?" and they say that they did then too bad for the LEO.
  12. Imagine the ballistics in the Martian atmosphere and gravity!
  13. +1. That is an incredible sight to see.
  14. A judge is who deems it necessary; not the police. One of the first things that the judge does is to determine what is lawful evidence and what is not. It is after the fact because the judge is obviously absent at the time of the arrest, but judicial review certainly happens. "Fruit of The Poisonous Tree" throws out any evidence gathered after a point that the judge detrmines something unlawful occurred. Remember, the Miranda Warning is to advise the suspect that he doesn't have to talk to the police because anything he/she says can be used against them and thus incriminate themselves FURTHER. Every criminal attorney that I've met has agreed that they wished that their clients would just shut up. There are various subtle things taking place that determines if the statement was gained lawfully. I was instructed that anytime a LEO's questioning turned accusatory in nature that the person must be read their Miranda Warning at that point for any further statements to be used against them. In this case they didn't need any further evidence, and the need to ensure the public safety from terrorists out-weighed the need for further evidence.
  15. I think many on here need to quit their day job and go to law school. Based on some of the statements on here, so many members on here would be so screwed in this situation that they'd need a lifetime supply of hemorrhoid creme. The Supreme Court ruled long ago that your individual rights do not over-ride public safety. In simplistic terms as an example, your 1st Amendment right to free speech does NOT entitle you to yell "Fire!" in a crowded theatre for the giggles of it. You can simply and clearly state that you give no consent to search of your premises if it makes you feel better, but you'd be making a big mistake attempting to block them from entering.   As far as being read his Miranda Warning, I thought that it was interesting to see what a judge and three lawyers on Fox had to say about much of what was going on. Judge Shapiro (SP?) pointed out that they didn't need to warn the suspect because they already had clear, over-whelming evidence of the suspect's crime. Statements given after his arrest were to be used to determine if there were other terrorists to worry about; not to go to his prosecution.
  16. I don't go in for the paranoid crap. Having been a LEO I can assure you that they have bigger fish to fry in this circumstance, and just like the street your doorstep is NOT the place to argue with the Popo.
  17. Considering that I don't keep illegal items in my home I'd let them in rather than act stupid.

  19. I had the brass fail on a shotgun shell in a double barrel that blew unburnt and burning powder into the skin on my forearm. Not cool! I'd hate for that to have been my eye(s).
  20. Considering a good chunk of her mind was blown away, of course she's not in her right mind.
  21. I did something similar in the thread that reported the bombing and was asked what was wrong with me. Personally, I don't care if someone thinks something's wrong with me. The irony is funny AND predictable since I knew that it was just a matter of time before someone used a bomb to kill. I don't think that is was a coincidence that the bombing occurred in a gun unfriendly state/city either. Someone was making a morbid point. No, I do not agree with their message. I hope they are found and sumarily executed, but given the location and federal charges I see a long prison sentence at taxpayer's expense in their future.
  22. Is his name Richard Jewell?
  23. I have contact with them via my job. I asked about a 300 Blackout barrel specifically, and their response was generally speaking. September to December is a pretty long lead time in anyone's book. But I choose to wait.
  24. "They" call McVeigh a right wing extremist, don't they?
