  1. No, something so large and searched for by so many would have uncovered at least bones by now.
  2. It's remarkable that the thug came back to the victim offering the victim's dropped cell phone that he recovered in exchange for his shotgun. :screwy:
  3. 39-11-611. Self-defense.   (e) The threat or use of force against another is not justified: (1) If the person using force consented to the exact force used or attempted by the other individual; (2) If the person using force provoked the other individual's use or attempted use of unlawful force, unless: (A) The person using force abandons the encounter or clearly communicates to the other the intent to do so; and (B) The other person nevertheless continues or attempts to use unlawful force against the person;   If the other person de-escalates you cannot use deadly force.\   39-11-621. Use of deadly force by private citizen. A private citizen, in making an arrest authorized by law, may use force reasonably necessary to accomplish the arrest of an individual who flees or resists the arrest; provided, that a private citizen cannot use or threaten to use deadly force except to the extent authorized under self-defense or defense of third person statutes, §§ 39-11-611 and 39-11-612.   So much for deadly force to affect a citizen's arrest unless the suspect escalates it, but you CAN be considered to be threatening deadly force if your gun is in your hand while running after a suspect. To some people's point, a suspect can turn, fire, and turn around again and thus catch the return fire in the back. Pretty much, there's not enough facts in the article to get anyone's panties in a bunch over it.
  4. Least we forget that TN law states that we are not allowed to escalate a situation to justify a shooting. By fleeing the criminal was de-escalating the situation. By chasing the criminal the manager was escalating it.   Still, I'm not upset at the outcome for either party.
  5. Back in the late 80's they used magnum primers to shoot cotton balls during Red-handled Gun class at the academy. They'd leave a heck of a welt at a few feet!
  6. They asked him what he was doing?
  7. It doesn't look like a cherry tree to me.   I have a different problem with a peach tree that I planted 7 years ago when we bought our house. It has only grown about 8 inches in those 7 years. Something tells me that it doesn't like the soil in Lavergne.
  8. On the one hand the robber won the prize to which he deserved, but on the other hand I am surprised that they aren't charging the manager...not that I'm upset about it either
  9. “I think trafficking can be the base of the bill, the rock on which everything else stands,” Ms. Gillibrand said. “I also think it’s complementary to background checks because, let’s be honest, criminals aren’t going to buy a gun and go through a background check. So if you really want to go after criminals, you have to have to do both.”   So, let's insist on stronger background checks because we know that criminals won't subject themselves to it?
  10. "You people"? Imagine the backlash that would have happened had that phrase been used with a minority!
  11. So how does a school - or a police department for that matter - determine that the individual is a former LEO? In my instance, I was a LEO in a small town in another state that is not even staffed with the same administration. It's not like there's an entry in the NCIC that someone is a former LEO.
  12. Well, there ya go! We know they have their &#^* together.
  13. Who classifies it as such? The government? I was taught that gunpowder burns creating expanding gases, and explosives create a pressure wave. After all, steam can create an "explosion" by many people's definition if enough pressure is maintained to a critical point.  I guess it doesn't really matter since the government can define a duck as a plant and we aren't to disagree with them.   Are they going to outlaw charcol, sulfur, and potassium nitrate too?
  14. I have seen it reported that they were concerned with it. Whether it was BS given to try and make some people have warm-fuzzies about dropping the bombs we'll likely never know for sure.   Some have argued that dropping the bombs is not what got Japan to surrender, but that it was the Russians crossing into China that got them to surrender. Japan and Russia have a pretty contentious history.
  15. Um, gunpowder is a propellant; not an explosive.   Further evidence of his stupidity: "It would also require a permit to make homemade explosives."
  16. Not to mention the amount of Japanese civilians that would have been killed. I remember figures reaching a million, but who really knows?
  17. Um, ya, sure!   Anyway, why would anyone be surprised by this today? This kind of crap has been happening for years.
  18. Personally, I think putting a missle up Osama's ass when Clinton had the opportunity to would have been the best move.
  19. That's an awful lot of slicing open of Blackcats! It'd be easier to make your own black powder I'd think.
  20. It doesn't really matter, IMHO. The TSA is staffed with a bunch of idiots who think an assisted opening knife is a switchblade. That calls into doubt their ability to use simple tools such as a ruler.
  21. Well, I guess that he was the victim of his own stupidity.
  22. And that recently worked so well where? Much of Afghanistan is used to that. So was Vietnam. Both countries are accustomed to resistance to invasion.   As a side note, I'm really surprised that Russia didn't nuke a lot of Afghanistan considering they stooped to booby-trapping children's toys.
  23. Interesting that they refer to the criminal as "The other victim."
  24. Oh, yes, the Marine barracks in Lebanon was such a minor thing compared to the great things that he did. How dare I bring it up and hold to my opinion.
  25. I threw a few pounds of country ribs in the smoker this afternoon myself. :yum:
