walmart limiting ammo purchases
tennessee01tacoma replied to tennessee01tacoma's topic in General Chat
K your probably right, but I was seriously gonna pickup 3 boxes for 3 people, one being myself, we live atleast 30 minutes away from any Wal-Mart so we look out for each other. But you see what does aggravate me is I have to choose either 1 box of 20 of hollow points or 100 fmj. -
I stopped at the Wal-Mart in Oak Ridge they have some ammo in stock i needed so I was gonna pick up 2 boxes and the guy at the counter said limit 1. As in limit 1 box per caliber per customer. I promise if we get through this ammo crunch ill never buy ammo at Wal-Mart again.

I want to put together my Bugout Bag in levels or tiers. As of now I am building my level 1 pouch which in my opinion must fulfill 3 purposes, Fire, Food, and Shelter. I want my level 1 to be small enough that if I have to I can wear it on my 5.11 operator belt or easily attach it to my level 2, and contain items that in addition to my edc I could survive 2 nights. I picked the Condor GP pouch for the base of this kit. It measures 6.25"x7.25"x1.5", and has pals/molle webbing for attachment. So here is what I have so far. Adventure medical kits 2 person survival blanket 60"x96" Condor Multiwrap Water purification tablets------------------------------------------------>Now an Aqua mira filter straw Credit car wrapped with duct tape and fishing line dental floss Light my fire firesteel bic lighter altoids tin with dryer lint and petroleum jelly magnesium block with a separate knife Waterproof matches in water tight container multi-tool small single AA flashlight 12' 550 cord 2 Snickers Marathon protein bars small tube Carmex Here is what I still want to add Lifeboat rations simple first aid, couple bandaids, gauze, and small bottle with assorted meds(ibuprofen, Imodium, benadryl). So I'm open to any suggestions or criticism. Do I really need as many ways to start fire as I have or could I trim that to just bic lighter and dryer lint with petroleum jelly and firesteel. My match container is about the size of a film canister so I know I can cut that down. *Update, I took out the water purification tablets, and added an aqua mira filter straw. I added a small knife just for the magnesium block so I don't dull my edc knife. I also added about 12' of 550 cord for building a shelter. I added 2 Snickers Marathon protein bars.

I like the Swiss Government (Requires Gun Ownership)!
tennessee01tacoma replied to JohnC's topic in General Chat
I would support something like this 110%, and if any anti-gunners didn't want their firearms I would gladly take them. -
I see your over-valued AR15 and raise you this...

A modern artifact of the 2nd amendment. Congrats. Noveske is probably my favorite black rifle company. -
Ya its a wilson combat +2 mag extension, a scattergun technologies side saddle, speed feed III stock and forend, the barrel has been cut down it measures 18 3/8". I want to go with an xs big dot sight, maybe a 1 point sling, and some kind of light/ mount, then I believe i will be done with it.

I have been looking for an 18" barrel for my 870 for a while I found one on the classifieds here so I figured I should post a picture.

New to Shotguns - simple mods and ammo selection?
tennessee01tacoma replied to pattywak's topic in Long Guns
When lookin for buckshot it will say 00 is the shot size but most of the time it will also say buckshot prominitely on the box. Steel shot doesn't deform like lead shot does. When lead deforms it doesn't fly good it will scatter really fast, and your main group on paper will be the non-deformed shot and the ones that are outside of the main bulk of your pattern is the deformed shot. -
New to Shotguns - simple mods and ammo selection?
tennessee01tacoma replied to pattywak's topic in Long Guns
I see anything #6 or larger(numerically smaller) as defense ammo for a shotgun. Number six would definitely be the smallest I would go. As for the oz load more oz =more pellets =more recoil. Also don't worry about all the 3" and 3.5" loads you typically find for Turkey hunting, they are louder and even more punishing, 2 3/4 loads are more than sufficient, they have atleast twice the energy of about any handgun loads. I definitely buy the cheaper stuff to practice with but when my shotgun is sitting in the corner its loaded with buckshot. -
What'd Santa's sorry fat butt bring you?

Gamo silent cat, 5.11 operator belt, a pair of Justin boots, 850 lumen spotlight, digital camo duct tape, zombie targets, machete. I had an awesome Christmas. -
I said shotgun because you could use slugs for longer range or buckshot for close quarters. I do own the land I'm planning on retreating to between my neighbors and I there is around 70 acres total that is surrounded by forest and fields that I don't know who owns it. My mom owns 14 acres that borders frozen head state park and is about 7 miles from my place I wanna make that journey on foot this summer to try and find good route.

I was reading on B.O.B.s and one guy carries a couple little civilian legal smoke grenades called sport smoke. They were created for paintball, I dont think they put out flames. A distraction could come in handy if your really having to get away
-
I would definitely head for the hills no way I would make my stand in the city. Of the weapons I own I would want my 870 with buckshot and slugs and I would have a machete. My plan would be to use my truck since it does well off road unless it was an emp, then I guess it would be a bike. I don't know anyone between Atlanta and Kingston so until I got there I would be on my own I would probably swing by my uncle's house in Kingston and then make the final leg home. I'm guessing it would probably take a couple weeks to get home from Atlanta on a bike and more on foot but if I could use a car maybe 2-3 days.

Air rifle for survival?

Which is around 1000 fps. -

<blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="Romad7" data-cid="871796" data-time="1356833348">
Supersonic? I'm not very knowledgable about air rifles but that sounds pretty good, what's a good rifle to look at that has that kind of velocity? That'd be a good small game rifle and I've survived on less in the field.

It makes a pellet rifle sound like a .22, not the gun itself but the projectile breaking the sound barrier makes a small sonic boom, that's more like a loud crack. The speed of sound is about 1000fps at sea level it's faster at higher elevation. My gamo is advertised at 1250 fps with alloy pellets or 1000 fps with lead which doesn't break the sound barrier and all you hear is the spring unload in the gun. Gamo or Benjamin break action rifles are good from what I understand. -
I got a gamo silent cat for Christmas and was thinking about how useful it could be in a survival situation. With lead pellets it doesn't break the sound barrier and all you hear is the spring unload. With the supersonic alloy pellets you have a sonic crack. You can carry 250 rounds of ammo with virtually no added weight. I know the argument will be made that if your gonna carry anything it should be a real firearm, but if for instance you could carry an air rifle strapped to your pack and carry a primary weapon and use the air rifle for survival hunting. So am I off base here or is an air rifle more of something for a cache, or shelter.

Do you allow your kids to arm themselves when home alone?
tennessee01tacoma replied to Links2k's topic in General Chat
I was armed as a minor, my stepdad had to travel for work sometimes and we kept a 38 revolver loaded on top of a cabinet to where only people old enough to use it knew where it was he gave me the talk when I was about 12 or 13 and told me if anyone broke in and was hurting my mom or him to get the pistol put it in the intruders ribs and keep shooting till it was unloaded then call 911. From the time I was about 15 there was access to guns and ammo in my bedroom, and yet I never decided to go shoot up a school or kill my parents and siblings. Now I'm 24 and have my hcp and carry to protect myself and my wife and loved ones. I taught my wife how to shoot a pistol and offered to send her to get her permit, she said she feels safe with just me carrying. She doesn't have the mindset that would allow her to take someones life in self defense. -
Assault TERD lol

All the hate for Yeager is exactly why we have so many training instructors to choose from when we want to further our training. You may hate Yeager and may love someone else that has the same background and the same opinions without the attitude/brashness. It's all about the delivery even though the principles might be exactly the same. I think it's safe to say almost anyone could learn something from Yeager, IF you can let yourself listen to him and get past his mile high ego. I looked at his website and what he teaches in his pistol classes are the same as the Magpuls(coveted) art of dynamic handgun, or Costa ludus or Haley strategic or any number of hangun defense/ manipulations classes or videos.
