I ran into an interesting situation on my way home from work. I was stopped at Southlake and Briley Parkway near Antioch when I noticed two hoodrats milling about in the median of Briley Parkway. I thought that was rather odd. I also thought it was odd they were wearing VERY heavy coats with the hoods up and a bit over their face. It was even odder that they were both wearing what appeared to be balaclavas hiding the lower part of their face. It was about 50 degrees…not like it was Tuesday. He also never removed his right hand from his jacket pocket…left hand was visible I was stopped, stuck by the traffic I was trying to merge into as one of them jogged across the street towards me. This is when I decided to move my 1911 from my hip to my leg. Just in case things got even odder. This is when I found out that being left handed, carrying a full size 1911 and actually presenting the weapon in a timely fashion while belted in the drivers seat was a VERY difficult thing to do. I had actually practiced this a bit…but I was all kinds of tangled up. I ended up freeing the pistol right as the guy made it to the median on my drivers side. I ended up covertly covering him through my drivers side door. I figured a 230 grain JHP hitting him after going through my door would do some damage to the daddy parts it was pointed at…affording me enough time to acquire proper sight picture on his head…or his buddy who was still in the middle of Briley. I have NO idea what they were up to…but the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. PRACTICE getting to your piece while seated…and belted in your car. My personal AAR was rather harsh. I went to all the trouble of getting to my 1911 on my hip, when in the briefcase right next to me, in easy EASY reach was my USP Tactical Compact…also in .45. I think unzipping the “secret†compartment and reaching in there would have been much faster but I think I actually forgot about it for a moment. Then there was the not unbuckling the seatbelt which would have made it a bit easier to maneuver in the seat. I’ll be taking some time this weekend to do some more dryfire practice from the drivers seat. (Now that I think about it...that is the EXACT same intersection I had some idiot chase me to many moons ago. He stopped when he saw a G30 in my hand)

I've been able to tighten the bushing/screw back into the frame fairly tight then "snap" the screwdriver quickly to get the screw to break free of the bushing. This seems to work better on hex head screws. Once I have them apart I make sure to tighten the bushing up with a bushing bit I found @ Brownells

Which scope mount is better and WHY?
dunndw replied to sigrug17's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I'm with Mike on this. I have the PEPR mount on one of my ARs. Does fine. It even did fine on my SCAR17 while i had it. -
My carry gun(s) are always loaded. I also check to make SURE they're loaded prior to leaving the house. I have guns for protection. If they're unloaded...they're paperweights.

Emily Gets Her Gun - Washington Times Article
dunndw replied to analog_kidd's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
You should sit in on one of my classes after someone who has never seen a gun in real life decides to get armed. I had one last week who couldnt stop shaking for the 1st 30 min of our session. Not everyone was born into a gun friendly family. Not everyone knows what to do with a handgun. The classes give a very very basic understanding of how to handle a handgun. You're acting like the TBI comes and takes your 1st born in exchange for a permit. It takes a day and a half including dealing with the DOS. A couple of hundred bucks...at least you dont have to be bonded anymore. At least then you can actually carry a pistol on your person in public. Corporate welfare....funny. do you know what a PITA it is to get a school started? Fees, insurance, instructors, most instructors I know have other full time jobs and train at night and on weekends. Bear Creek Beef. The wife and I went to the farmers market in Franklin yesterday and picked up a couple of strips. It was without a doubt the best steak I've ever eaten. Bear Creek Farm If you like steak it's worth it. Its a bit higher than something like Publix greenwise, but worth every penny

I had a 226 lock up tight on me like that. Something was bent. Called Sig, they e-mailed me a call tag. I had the gun back in around a week or so. -
Train, Train and keep on training with your CCW.
dunndw replied to Stainless's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I'd LOVE to run that "game" with me or some of the other guys on here that train, and shoot. DON'T tell the "bad guy" who has the gun, let ME choose my attire, holster, etc (like I do now) and I might get shot, but I'll be putting rounds on target while getting hit. That whole video is crap. -

The Hermitage Wallyworld had a Bushmaster Ar in the case as well. Of course no one was actually WORKING the sporting good counter. The old fella that is usually there was hiding in the automotive service waiting room. I made eye contact with him and all I got was a wagging finger and "I'm on break". Yet another reason to NOT shop there.

Got "the call" yesterday from Guns and Leather. My AAC 762-SDN-6 arrived. Got by there today to pickup MY paperwork...just so happened to have my SBR with it's 300 Blackout upper on it in the truck...you know...zombie protection. After some slight begging Dennis let me take it downstairs to try out "just a few" rounds. I was able to shoot a 9in AR indoors...shooting a 7.62 subsonic round with no hearing protection on at all
