I get a kick out of the comments, some seriously demented folks out there. As for the incident, hard to say with the facts so far; but he definitely can use more safety training. Either left one in the pipe, a common error for new gun owners, or was just plain old being stupid and playing with a loaded weapon. In the police report it should note if there were cleaning equipment on the table, and if there was another round in the chamber.

Full disclosure, I don't own an AR10; but I have fired them and while not bad, I stuck with my Rem 700 .308 bolt action since I am under the impression that they are more accurate. Add to that, that the 300Blk has many interchangeable parts with other caliber ARs and it makes my choice easier; the 300 Blackout. I have two, a 16" and a 10.5" and I would much rather carry either one of those than an AR10 while hunting. But I keep my shots under 200 yards, most under 100 yards.

Ha, no; but by the look of him he may still be trying to work up courage to pick up a .40. As for the Master, I guess he really is an expert in WTF.

Const. Carry Bill brought up today
Omega replied to CommsNBombs's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
As an outsider I thought Texas of all places would be more open to the idea of open carry. But I see that Texas has the same kind of signage law we do. There may be an increased number of businesses that post their doors in the beginning, but when they begin to lose business because of it they will change their mind. But we as gun rights supporters need to stand firm and refuse to do business with them if they post their premises, and make it known why you refuse to do so. Many times I hear of CCW permit holders dropping of their weapon in their cars to get that piece of pizza, or burger instead of going somewhere else. I understand there will be times where that is not feasible, such as post offices, utilities, etc. but wherever possible we need to vote with our feet and $$. I am not opposed to open carry, but I prefer concealed; but for some reason they(anti's) feel like burying their heads in the sand and would rather not know you are armed or not. I remember talking to a guy once for almost an hour about this and that with no issue until we began a discussion of carrying. Once he discovered that there was a gun on me his demeanor changed, was a short conversation after that before he had other things to do. -
I only use the "View New Content" feature so no matter how the forums are broken down I get a mix of posts. As for posting in certain areas, it would be nice to include a location in the title some thing like: "Nashville - Glock 19 NIB". Also, while it may be a bit funny to put "middle of nowhere" in your profile its hard to know where a poster is unless they specify. A few ads I have seen it specifies local only but no location given; though many do add where they travel for possible meeting places.

AD vs ND are a very different thing. I believe most are in the ND category, because when you analyze them, it comes out that it was preventable if safety precautions were followed. When a weapon is dropped and goes off, or a bad holster catches the trigger upon holstering etc, that is my idea of AD, even if some precautions could of prevented it. But when your action causes the weapon to discharge when you do not mean it to, that is an ND. Having said that, I agree that stuff happens, and unless someone is injured, then we can just carry on and learn from the incident. Twice I have had what I consider an ND, the first is with my Kimber 1911, the trigger was so light that I put two rounds down range when only meaning to discharge once. The second time was when I, as a novice AK user, didn't realize that it started on full auto instead of semi. Both incidents were at ranges, and both could of been played off very easily but I choose to tell it like it is. Of course I am not a brand, and having an ND is nothing more than a little embarrassment so the choice is easier. But I feel that when you lie it makes the incident that much worse, sometimes more so than the incident itself, because that speaks of bad character.

New gun bills set for hearing this week
Omega replied to Dustbuster's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well, yes sort of. The permit may come in handy for those places, but many more are probably carrying outside those areas than in those areas. The first one applies to permit and non-permit holders while the second one only applies to permit holders. The thing I understand about politics in TN is that while it does lean more pro-gun in its laws, it has many anti-gun...well lets just say not as pro-gun laws as it should have. The fact that you need background checks even with a valid permit, the whole force of law on carrying past a sign, the many cities that attempted to still keep parks posted, (and some still are!), the many anti-discharge regulations/laws within city limits (even if you have space), even for bb guns and sling shots, etc etc. If there is no vocal anti-gun culture in TN then where in the heck did these laws come from? The silent majority in the TN legislature, and local law makers; that's where. We have had lip service only, with some laws passed to appease the pro 2A among us, but when it come to passing meaningful laws they have come up short quite a few times only putting teeth into the anti-gun laws not the permissive ones. Why can I be charged for carrying past a sign but no one is held accountable for searching me at Nissan Stadium or the Ascend Amphitheater and probably many other such Parks in TN? -

Yes, good catch, apparently my autocorrect is misspelling for me. And yes, that is the bill I was referring to; don't be surprised if it goes further than you think. As for the background check, lets be honest, if it was held to such a high importance we would never have the guns in cars or trunks law pass. It's kind of late to look up the actual law, will try and insert later; but no licence at all required to possess a gun in a vehicle right now. One can argue that you passed a bg check upon purchase, but we know some purchased privately. And if that were the premise, then we should not need further bg checks with a CCW permit when we buy more guns. I do agree that laws should be better crafted, both pro and anti gun laws can be vague at times leaving more questions than answers. But I for one don't think that about the NRA and TFA, if we didn't have those kinds of organizations we would not have many pro gun laws passed. Look at how the anti-gunner organizations operate, and look at all those anti-gun laws that get passed. Do you think they are bullying law makers and private companies to pass anti-gun laws and policies? -
New gun bills set for hearing this week
Omega replied to Dustbuster's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I think you are more I'll informed than he. When the bill came up to allow open carry without permit it was killed, it was evident then that TPTB did not want it passed. And now they are trying to ban CC from paid public parks. And it's a supposedly pro-gun Republican legislative body. -
I would wait a few days, at least until you see the vegetation start to die off. If you don't wait until then some of the vegetation will just come back up. The seeds should be OK though, even if it's not roundup ready. From Scott's:

I'm with DaveTN on this one. If you want to go out to 300 yards and not shooting at large targets you will want an optic. Most of the brand-name scopes will be good for that range, get one with the reticle you like and at the price point you are comfortable with. Red dot and the like optics are not bad at a distance, as long as your eyes can I'd your target, but they are reflex sights, so close quick shots are what they were designed for.

But you get a box with it.

Ambien works well, I took it for two weeks straight to try and reset my internal clock. But it didn't seem to reset it, so I bought a double bottle set of melatonin and kept taking those afterward. I still have problems now and then so I keep some ambien on hand, it usually works fast enough that when I am still up after 2am I can take one and still be able to wake at 6 or so without issues.

I have the same thing, a TVA power line running right though the middle. It was a narrow valley which I could barely get through with a 4 wheeler, so I had a bulldozer open it up 2 blades wide. It had a bunch of large rocks that came out, and I thought I was good. But before I could even plant it we had heavy rain which brought up all the rocks again. I used a box blade to regrade and planted the food plot with corn. It came up well and gave me a chance to lock in some soil, the next year I used roundup then lightly disked and planted a food plot mix I put together at the coop, mostly clover, white and red. It came up good as well, but the deer kept it well trimmed, which I didn't mind, but had to replace the next year. Finally, I spread grass seed, and will just keep it trimmed, every planting season I spread some no till seed mix into it. Corn: Clover: Grass:

Pretty much how I did it, except the cultipacker since I don't have one. The area is quite rocky but it came up decently the first year, but I have a lot of wild berries and other weeds on the hills on each side which I can't keep from taking over. The rain also runs off the topsoil, and with it the good vegetation. I got frustrated so I spread grass seed to hold the soil and if it does like my lawn, clover will overrun that.

No, politics will prevent it. Haslam uses the finance committee to kill bills he doesn't want on his desk. But if you look at some of the bills that get killed vs the ones that pass, there is a big disparity between them and some of the passed bills are no more than feel good bills to garner inner city votes. -
I planted a deer food plot with white ladino clover as the major seed mix, I had a bunch of turkey that year. Didn't get to hunt them though, since they only showed up while not in season and I am not really into turkey hunting so didn't attempt to draw them in.

After my last deployment I retired, I had such a hard time resetting my internal clock that I was put on ambien. It worked well for me, but I am leery of taking any meds for an extended period so tried melatonin. It worked most times and didn't experience any negative side effects such as drowsiness during the day. It did take longer to make me drowsy, so I had to take them before I knew I would have trouble sleeping that night, but I think it helped me get my sleep cycle right.

Hmm, I was under the impression that TGO was social media as well. I don't do Facebook, twitter etc., so maybe I am just missing the nuances between the two. Oh well, I'll stick to forums.

Went there but didn't poke around too much, care to enlighten me on what it is? Looks like a collection of other gun related sites, what makes it different than just being here on TGO?

Ha, I think many of us have been there; the things we do for our children. -
I've done it two ways, and both work decently fast for a cheapskate like me,: the first time I set my .308 cases in a pan of water up to the necks and hit them with a torch until orangeish. Worked good for a string of 100 rounds I needed for an event. For the messload of 300 blackouts, I used a socket in a drill spinning just enough in a torch flame to turn them orangeish then drop them into a bucket of water to keep the heat from getting to the base. Did over 1k that way, not speedy, but faster than the first way. Did the whole MIL crimped primer pocket dance on those 300 blks too, and that with a Lee handheld too, at least the first 800 or so, then I used the 3 jaw Chuck to finish. I got a press mounted version for the next 1k I convert, hope its better than the first time.

That only works if the 338 Lapua ricochets off of special mall walls, and you have to be uber ninja qualified.

I have one already, but as I said before, I love me some good deals. Say $100 to get back your man card back, I take PayPal  -
