  1. Two things: 1) I haven't had to use it, but I have NRA Carry Guard (currently.) I will change to USCCA because I found out that Carry Guard only advances a small amount toward your defense. They don't pay, if you are not acquitted, so no shot at accepting a lesser charge (see #2.) Carry Guard, and others don't pay for non-lethal defense like pepper spray, which is a good idea to have (see #2,) or taser. You can rely on USCCA, or Carry Guard or other insurer for a lawyer referral, but I think USCCA is better than Carry Guard in this, too. 2) I am really happy to have bought "The Law of Self Defense" 3rd Edition. It's only $9.99 on Kindle. I also bought the DVDs. The author does a great job of explaining the 5 elements of a self defense case. He also does a great job of what to say to which parties. You would say only so much to 911, only exculpatory things on scene and almost nothing to detectives (without an attorney,) and why. The 3rd Edition book lists case and jury instructions for each state. And, a level 2 dvd can be purchased for each state. Branca lists some and talks about other cases where the prosecution, judge or other was just out to get someone. He talks about the fact that everything can go right, and you may still be convicted (it has happened.) I have become much more aware of the need to make sure I am prepared in every way .... from attending IDPA matches to staying up to date with legal cases thru Branca's web presence. Do yourself a huge favor, and research "The Law of Self Defense."
  2. Where can I stay updated on IDPA matches in Manchester? Thanks
  3. The SD9 VE was the first gun I purchased, after deciding to get back into shooting. It has stellar reviews regarding value for price, on the S&W Forum. And, there is a video of a S&W sponsored shooter using it in IDPA competition. I had no problem with the trigger, probably because I had just returned to shooting. It performed very well during the TN Carry Permit test. Mine has Talon grips, an extended take down pin and I bought (but don't use) a SS 20lb spring. I have fired about 400 rounds through it, with the only problems being Monarch steel case ammo stoppages (1 or 2 per mag.) Recently, I purchased an M&P 2.0, so I'll just mention that I will have this in the classifieds soon.
  4. A long time ago, I remember reading that TVA was one of the only regional suppliers that could be autonomous. It was in the local news, the Tennessean I think. The reason it made the news was that TVA wanted to get (entwined?) with the grid, so that it could sell more electricity. Some people were against this move for fear of susceptibility to a whole grid shutdown as well as the fear that the utility would be forced to supply other regions, and it could increase rates in this region. Seems like this was shortly after a brown out in the northeast. Of course, this was more than 10 years ago. I'm pretty sure TVA won their bid to expand. I think those inter-tie links make the grid very vulnerable with the sophistication of today's hackers. Seems the more potential danger, the more precautions required. Society follows this rule when it lowers speed limits in school zones and congested areas, as well as in other ways. I'm no leach, but my pension and ss retirement funds are direct deposited. I don't live within walking distance of water that I can transport (for cooking, bathing, etc.) Food would be difficult to get, as well. So, for the first time in my life, I have considered having a few weeks worth of water and food on hand. I'm certain that a collapse of the electrical grid would be devastating to the majority of citizens. By the way, I saw a documentary on stuxnet that showed that it spread beyond Iran. The virus "escaped," and is still "out there" and affecting some systems in the world that haven't been updated. And, while natural disaster may be more likely than a computer virus (I'm not sure of that,) natural disaster cripples only a relatively small area from local effects. The wider spread problems come from disruption of electricity, transportation, water, etc.. While I'm not one to panic, it seems prudent to insure that such vital infrastructure is as safe as possible. There is a lot of overlap of damage from natural and man made catastrophes. We can help reduce the chaos of both. Delay the Wall, the Mars trip, get smarter about military spending, and we're there.
  5. Thanks for the post. I viewed the Facebook page, but didn't see the answers to the following questions. Does one need to be a member of USPSA or that gun club to participate? Must one register beforehand, or are walk-ins allowed? And, thanks for your time and assistance.
  6. It is very nice to read (on a conservative forum) sane, considered thoughts that include respect for civil rights and due process when the victim is not someone like themselves. Correct me, if I'm wrong, but I don't think the TN Constitution allows for any type of "punishment". (The death penalty is a legislative instrument.) In fact, prisoners are supposed to be safe. I think THE purpose for incarceration is supposed to be to remove threats from society. Rehabilitation is more of a community based concept? Someone mentioned that there is nothing that can be done for a murder victim. I agree. So, the death penalty is maybe nothing more than retribution? An "eye for an eye" is not a legal concept. Courts exist to remove emotions from the equation so that we don't have a society made up of a lot of different Hatfields and McCoys. Having said that, I propose that incarceration be purged of any amenities (period.) No commissary, cigarettes, tv, etc. I bet that would not be pleasant for life, without parole. Prisoners need motivation to get out and stay out of jail. Guards need to be well trained and paid properly, given security clearances, wear cameras (with penalties for it not being activated,) and held to the highest standard, like any officer. But, I'm guessing taxes would never be raised for anything that isn't "for the kids." Yea, I'm a cynic, just like everyone else. Too many have become intolerant of anyone else's view, IMHO.
  7. Thanks for the input. The search continues.
  8. Anyone familiar with these? https://ameriglo.com/collections/smith-wesson/cap Thinking about them for a 4.25 S&W 2.0. Dave Spaulding, as spokesperson says they are made to cover the target, rather than have the target above the fsp. Looking for reviews from owners or users. Would these sights be OK, better or worse (than OEM) for IDPA? What tritium sights would you recommend, and why? Thanks.
  9. This suddenly took a funny, but creepy turn! Some day I may find out how to add those yellow dots. DaveTN, I am certainly on board with getting info from DAs, but the attorney for USCCA seems to have his head on straight, so maybe DAs, defense attorneys and LEOs, like yourself? The advice runs similar to what people here have said ....... be the first to call 911, don't open carry, you're responsible for every bullet, run first .. hide second .. fight as last resort, etc.. I think the issue is important enough that I wouldn't mind occasional reminders (kind of like church.) That's one of the reasons I participate in firearm related forums. Just an old guy mumblin.
  10. Seems I remember reading about guns being "shown" (not pointing toward a person) while in traffic. I think it may have been used as "proof" of road rage. So, minus corroborating evidence such as being followed, crowded off road, etc., is there not a specific code similar to brandishing for "showing a firearm" in that circumstance? Or is it just evidence of a different violation? It would be great to have a 2nd Amendment attorney on this forum. The NRA Carry Guard and USCCA have attorney referrals, and the USCCA has an attorney that answers questions during webcasts. Maybe, a local attorney that would be interested in handling firearm cases for the above insurance holders could help their practice?
  11. Aero Precision kit with a LaRue barrel and Timney (or your choice) trigger.
  12. Thanks for the tip on Holster Co., I hadn't come across them, before.
  13. Feel free to delete or move if this is irrelevant. I bought the 4.25". What owb holsters do you guys like (that will fit?)
  14. Anybody know what's going on with Guns N More? I ordered an M&P 2.0 from Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore, to be delivered thru Guns N More. Went to their website and noticed the address was different from the one listed at SOS, so I emailed through their site. They replied that they would get a new FFL to the dealer, if I gave them the order #. I did that the next day (also through their web contact service.) They never sent it. No one answered, and no voice mail when I called during business hours. Now, I notice that apparently they are no longer a sponsor of this site?
  15. I have the very similar Viridian, but it is the Instant on version. It looks and feels solid. The Dara holster was a little expensive, but I would never have the Shield without a laser, now. I'm not crazy about having to disassemble the thing to replace the batteries, so if Crimson Trace batteries can be replaced with unit on the gun, you will be ahead of the game.
  16. Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore has the 2.0s for $419. Active/Retired Military and Active Reservists can get a $50 rebate from S&W.
  17. It would be great to know who the "local expert" is, so we can adjust our expectations accordingly.
  18. How much time do I need to add to the Mapquest/Google maps estimated time of travel (from Murfreesboro?) Is the place easy to spot? How early should I be? Does shooting start at 9am, or registration start@ 9? Thanks
  19. I'd also like to get more info. I googled Walden Ridge Shooting Range. No web page, and facebook latest post is almost 1 yr old. Appreciate your help.
