  1. No lost to me. I stopped shopping with them when they went anti 2a.
  2. G1 & G2 will interchange most of the time. I have seen some g2 bull barrels not work well on g1 frames. Hard to open and don't lock up good. If you are going to shoot any big calibers I would go with the 12 inch or super14 barrel. The 10 inch barrel is a hand full with/in big calibers.
  3. Welcome to club. Good group here.
  4. It looks like it is going to be a great Saturday. Break out the 22lr rifle and shoot some steel. River Bend Gun Club is a two hour drive from Chattanooga. Not far and a great place to shoot. Practice at 9, match at 10. Come on out for some low pressure shooting.
  5. Sometimes you have to drive to shoot a match. My closet match is a 3 1/2 hour drive one way. Makes for a long day of having fun.
  6. This Saturday there will be two Smallbore Rifle Silhouette Matches at the River Bend Gun Club, Marble Hill Geoegia area. One 40 shot Standard Rifle match and one 40 shot Hunter Rifle match. Match start time is 10 a.m. with practice starting around 9 a.m. The matches will run rain or shine. The firing line is covered. Match will be on Range 13, Rimfire Range. Go to River Bend Gun Club site for range map and more information. The Smallbore Silhouette matches at River Bend Gun Club are open to all competitors so you do not need to be a club member to attend the matches. All shooters are required to sign a match release. All junior competitors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who must sign a youth release. There are several types of rifles that can be used for smallbore rifle silhouette but generally they are hunting type rifles most often with optical sights (scopes) attached. There is no requirement that optical sights be used but due to the relatively small size of the targets, they generally make the sport more enjoyable since they allow the competitor to clearly see the targets. Ammunition is restricted 22 Long Rifle ammunition with no high velocity ammunition allowed. Subsonic ammunition is more accurate than high velocity ammunition, minimizes the possibility of damage to the range equipment and reduces the chance that a ricochet will make it back to the firing line. Hunting Rifle class can weigh a maximum of 8 1/2 lbs. (including sights) and must have a minimum trigger pull weight of 2 lbs, with a taper barrel and hunting stock. Standard Rifle class can be a maximum weight of 10 lbs. 2 oz. (including sights), any type of barrel/stock, and does not have a minimum trigger pull weight restriction (but it must be a SAFE trigger!). A number of competitors opt to shoot a rifle that meets the more stringent Hunting Rifle class requirements in both the Hunter and Standard matches. Single shot and semi auto rifles can be used. The course of fire for the Standard Rifle Match and the Hunter Rifle Match is 10 shots at each of the four animals/distances for a total of 40 shots for each match. 10 chicken targets fired at 40 meters 10 pig targets fired at 60 meters 10 turkey targets fired at 77 meters 10 ram targets fired at 100 meters The course of fire is subdivided into 5 shot strings (first bank of animals), during which the competitors are allowed a 15 second ready period to load and prepare (change sight settings, etc.) for the first shot followed by 2 ½ minutes to fire five shots. A 30 second break then you will do it all over for your second bank of animals. The line commands are “READY”, “FIRE” and “CEASE FIRE”. You will need 40 rounds of ammo for each match for a total of 80 rounds. But bring more ammo for practice/zero and in case you are in a shoot off. There are no sighting shots included in the course of fire. You must know your zeros for the four distances and make adjustments during the match. There will be a sighting/practice period prior to the start of record fire. During this time, competitors are allowed to confirm zeros with an unlimited number of rounds but once the match starts, no sighting shots are allowed. Smallbore Rifle Silhouette is shot “offhand” standing unsupported on the clock. No bench rests, no slings, no heavy shooting jackets, no laying down, no running, no gunning, no nothing. Just old school shooting. It is you and your rifle/ammo trying to knock the animals off the rail. Get the 22 LR rifle out and come have some fun.
  7. smallbore rifle silhouette and smallbore lever action rifle silhouette matches in brock's gap in hoover alabama, river bend gun glub in georgia and chatuga gun club in hiawassee georgia. they got you covered for three weekend a month. good matches at all three clubs. brocks' gap and chatuga also has pistol cartridge lever action silhouette. chatuga is starting smallbore hunter pistol and hunter pistol silhouette matches in april. so there are many matches to be found.
  8. This Saturday there will be two High Power Rifle Silhouette Matches at the River Bend Gun Club, Marble Hill, Georgia. One 40 shot Standard Rifle match and one 40 shot Hunter Rifle match. Match start time is 10 a.m. with practice starting around 8:30/9 a.m. The matches will run rain or shine. The firing line is covered. There are several types of rifles that can be used for high power rifle silhouette but generally they are hunting type rifles most often with optical sights (scopes) attached. NRA silhouette rules specify that rifles must have a bore diameter of at least 6 mm and that magnum or other belted cartridges are not allowed. Projectiles smaller than 6 mm might not have sufficient energy to knock the targets down and magnum or belted rounds could damage or even penetrate them. There is no requirement that optical sights be used but due to the relatively small size of the targets, they generally make the sport more enjoyable since they allow the competitor to clearly see the targets. Hunting Rifle class can weigh a maximum of 9 lbs. (including sights) and must have a minimum trigger pull weight of 2 lbs, with a taper barrel and hunting stock. Brock's Gap Training Center will hold Lever Action matches on the first weekend of the month during February, March, April, May, June (Alabama State Match), August, September, October, and November. Hope to see you there.
  13. Back in 83 a bunch of us was on the back side of El Paso shooting our 44 mags wheel guns. Just having fun. A friend had a ruger redhawk. We were watching him shoot and on one shot if looked like he threw the pistol at the target. The pistol looked like it flipped out of his hard forward. I asked him why did you throw your pistol. He stated I did not throw my pistol I got it here in where he shows us the redhawk that was missing the barrel. The barrel broke off the frame. Just a clean cut at the frame. We all were shooting reloads and factory ammo. Don't remember what he was shooting but it did not sound any different from the other ammo being shot that day. The pistol and shooter had no other damage. Ruger fix the pistol for him.
  14. Match day was great. Not to hot or cold. Small turn out but it was first match of season. The only pictures I took were of the targets. Spend my time shooting. Will try to post some pictures later. Next match is first weekend in March. Not much time to get ready.
  15. up down, up down, up down. no real good reason for this except to much government control with the epa standards and other crap.

    Air Rifles

The cmp has the best deal on air rifles. They have a daisy air rifle for around 100.00. The price might be higher now. I got two several years ago for 99.00 each.
  17. Time to shoot some steel. Break out the lever guns and shoot some steel. We don't dress up and we don't use funny names. Just plain old he-man old school shooting. Come out and see if you can do it.
  18. I use the 158 gr hp bullet from the zero bullet company. Also I used the 125 and 158 gr extreme plated bullet. Powders used are sr 4756 and titegroup. I currently use the 158 gr hp with 6.5 grs of titegroup in a marlin 1894cb for pistol cartridge silhouette matches. Back in the 80's I used h110/2400 in the 357 mag but for silhouette shooting there was better powders that group better and had no kick. Now if I load the 180 gr sierra 357 mag bullet I use h110 to get the speed to knock down the 200 meters rams in the big bore game.
  19. This Saturday is shaping up nice. Going be great weather for the match. Time to shoot some steel.
  20. When I first started to read this the word "troll" kept popping up in my mind. Now I think it is so.
  21. Just don't sound right. Empty mag will not seat/lock in a 1911 with slide open. Take new gun back to store and let them work it out.
  22. that is a nice pistol at a very good price. if it was in my area i would buy it.
