Subject Matter Experts! .223 Powder.
frankmako replied to deafdogdief's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
in the next two weeks i will be working up some 5.56 loads with imr 4895 and a 55gr fjmbt. h335 is also a good 5.56 powder. -
i carry a g23 on duty. i like the 40 over any of the other duty guns that i have had.
-
it would be a basic ar with the normal sights/carring handle and a good sling. more stuff on gun, the more things can go wrong. iron sights always work.
-
i use 30wt oil on the ram and some grease on the bushing. i clean under the shell plate when i change cals. powder drops get good cleaning, but no oils/grease. been doing this on two 550 since 1984/85. at the first i used graphite on the ram but then i found oil works better. not much some a little.

this is going to be a long list. been at this reloading game since 1973. pistol 22 lr 22 mag 25 acp 32 s&w 32 acp 380 9x18 mak 9 mm 38 sp 357 mag 40 s&w 44 mag 45 acp 7mm tcu 7mm-308 30-223 rifle 22 short 22 long 22 lr 30-30 35 rem 8 mm 30-06 308 5.56 mm and all of the standard shotgun cals. reload for all except the 22 cals and the 38 s&w. takes a little time to reload a bunch of 25 acp rounds.

i have been using army ammo cans for many mango seasons. kept them in the basement and/or garage over the years in many different areas in the u.s.. so it was a wide temp range, from hot to cold. hot/cold it seems not to matter. just the other day i used some powder (bulleye) that i put in a ammo can back in 1985. it worked just as good as day one. ran some rounds across the chronograph and they were where my load data should be. so to me it is best to store primer/powder in a good army ammo can anywhere in you home.

How do you carry your j-frame?
frankmako replied to Parrothead's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
clip draw belt clip is what i use for my model 60. -
if this is their first gun i would look for a wheel gun. a s&w and/or ruger wheel gun would be the best way to go. then later they could move over to an auto. now on the sigma. i pickup one from a person that did not like the trigger. i did a trigger job and the 12 pound trigger dropped to about 6 pounds. i carry a glock on duty and have found that the sigma fits my hand better and is a easy to shoot (after trigger job). before the trigger job the gun stayed in the safe. the sigma is a close copy of the glock. s&w made some changes in the trigger area, but the rest of the gun is very close.

i have found the prices are hit and miss when it comes to gun/hunting/fishing items over wal mart, dicks, and sportman's. but it is nice to have all 4 stores within 3 miles of each other. they do put some good sales in the newspaper. but i have seen on the ammo sales you got to be one of the first at the store to get any. must be the gun show dealers buying up the ammo and marking up the price to sale at the gun shows. seen that before around here.

5.11 makes one of the best dress gun belts going. i have been wearing one for two years and it is just as good a day one. the price has dropped on the belt and you can find them under $40.00. they have the plastic insert that makes them work.
-
don't go cheap, you will not wear it. i use the galco miami classic for the g23. wears great and can not tell i got it on.
-
the main problem of east ridge is the schools. if you got school age kids i would look in the ooltewah/apison area. at one time, many mango seasons ago this was a nice area. now it is hit and miss. too close to east lake and downtown.
-
find a used colt ser 70/80 model. hard to beat the older colts. you can do a lot to them. they are some of the best shooter going.
-
don't feel bad, i been looking for one for several weeks. the one i find are over 250k miles and priced like new.
-
i use a galco belt holster and a kholster inside the pants holster. both work well. this is the only kel tec that i have that does not have the kel tec belt clip. got one but have not put it on.
-
i got a g36 and i do not carry it. i carry a g23. not much different in the size between the two, so i go for more rounds that the g23 gives me. now my g36 has never given me any problems. in fact i took it out this weekend and put 100 plus rounds down range without any problems.

Reloading supplies in Clarksville/ Nashville
frankmako replied to Fasazu's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
the reloaders bench is a good place to pickup reloading items and/or order items off the net. -
around $250 to $300 plus tax and tbi check. brass ammo works best. kel tec states, do not use steel case ammo. trigger pull is not bad, about the same as a wheel gun. you can add a laser to it, it has a rail for it. but,,,,the pf9 can be a problem gun. some pf9's work 100% out of the box, others don't. you just don't know which one you got untill you fire it. now kel tec will either send you free replacement parts or you can mail the gun back to them to fix it. i got one and it has been a bear. i have changed out just about every part except the frame on the gun. i got new grip and assembly pin coming in from kel tec this week.
-
i shoot my g27 and g23 better than my g22. don't know why, just do. so if you are looking for a second glock i would stay with the same cal that you carry for work.
-
i use the galco ankle glove. do not buy a cheap ankle holster. cheap ones don't hold up well and don't wear well.
-
yes i do.
-
i use titegroup and aa#5 in 38 sp, 9mm, 40 s&w, and 45 acp. i have been looking at doing some 380 loads with both. so you can use either /or and it will work out well.

What do YOU use to clean and oil your gun?
frankmako replied to pattywak's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
hoppies #9 and any good gun oil/motor oil, and gun/auto grease. -
yes, i got them too. i got a 223, 44 mag, 357 mag, 7 tcu, 22 mag, and 22lr. i like the 7 tcu the best. what a rush when shooting it. been looking for a old 9mm barrel. they are hard to find.
